I had this engine. I got clocked by my cousin’s Bayliner at 32 mph against a moderate wind. I had a simple 14’ Northwoods aluminum fishing boat, tiller with manual start. It idled and trolled all day like a 3hp fishing motor and pulled adults high speed on inner tubes with no problem. Ran it hard for years and never a hiccup. I think Johnson Outboards were the best running motors ever. You can’t beat a 2 stroke Johnson or Evinrude. Mercs were good motors but were designed for speed whereas Johnsons were torque monsters.
@3wsportfishing3115 жыл бұрын
These engines were built like tanks , many still running perfect today, decades latter. My 1989 70Hp Johnson VRO ran perfectly untill 2015 when a mechanic stripped the threads for spark plug on bottom cylinder. It has since been repaired and running strong once again.

I have enjoyed your videos been watching for a little while I recently pick up a 1432 flat bottom and trailer since then I found a motor that I had never heard of before very cheap so I started research on it and found out a few things about it. It's a 1974 Eska 9.5 model 1925b which was sold by Sears, everything seems good but it didn't have a carburetor on it so I hope I can find parts with not too much trouble. Keep the videos coming and I love how much your dog enjoys the ride.

I’ve watched several of your videos man , you really know how to tune a motor ! My all time top speed was 33 mph with a Suzuki dt25 3 cylinder on a 16 -48 flat jon and 30mph from a Nissan 25 , I’ve never been able to get close to the performance you do from these Johnson’s and evinrudes , I would love to give you some business !

No matter your HP 15hp to 35hp you will always get between 23 and 32 mph because of the pitch. More HP means more weight can be pushed along the water at WOT speed. For example. Take a 15hp empty 16 ft jon boat 25 mph should be. Add another person 23 mph add another person or a big cooler 21 20 mph ,,, now put 35hp on same boat empty top speed 32 mph add another person 32 mph add cooler full of ice and beer stil 32 mph add 3rd person 30 mph add another person 26 to 28 mph etc... speed depends on weight, weight pushing, hp and prop pitch. Now take 16 ft jon boat, 15hp custom 15 pitch prop, 1 person you do 40 mph, now take 35hp custom 17 pitch or 18 pitch prop now you do 45 50 mph

I'm putting a 25 ss 1978 on a 2007 10 ft Jon boat almost finished with cable steering gas tank up front should hit 40+ mph easily might add an adjustable air wing to keep nose from flipping ....further plans if it works wings at back sides so when I hit big waves to get serious air . Had same motor on a b class runabout and hit a 14 bow cruisers wake that was 6 + high and cleared its wake and landed it its split second wake and had to jump that one too ....I swear I jumped over 100 ft sometimes coming off a jump I would hit my head on the top of boat but being a flat bottom boat it would carry in the air ...it was so cool 25 ss mercury motor is only 55 lbs .my runabout would go 52 mph with the 25ss motor
@vojomatusenko4 жыл бұрын
roy zabel interesting. What is 25 SS motor ?
@royzabel34504 жыл бұрын
25ss is a motor mercury put out that only forward gear short lower unit ...lower centre of gravity water pickup is bellow the gear so you run only half the prop in the water create s less resistance and higher rpm and you run double oil 25 to 1 Japan has stadiums that they bet on like horses racing with boats ...look that up

Wait until he hits a wake from another boat or just on a windy day. The front of that job boat is going to cave in. Believe me, I had a rated motor on mine and that is what happened. They are thin aluminum boats and not made for that kind of speed. My boat was solid until that happened. It creased in the front. I had it tig welded but the structure will never be there. Wound up selling the trailer to a guy who who is only going to put a trolling motor on the boat. I gave him the boat for free and disclaimed that it had welds on the front and should not have a gas motor more that 5HP.

If ur boat has a plate on it with specs for game warden to look at n it is designed for lower hp motor then bware of game wardens if u rmin he US. I had a 1542 duracraft wih aluminum deck on front to right behind where second seat was and raised back seat to right under side of boat with a 25hp evinrude with 30hp carb with alum jack plate, tiller control and it moved along really nice. When I moved to Philippines I sold it n the new owner loved it and it was a 1989 boat n sold it in 2012 and was still running great. Caught a ton of fish out of that boat but it got pushed to the side when I bought my z21 ranger with 225 ho evinrude. Also had 12 foot jon with 15hp evinrude for duck hunting. Wished I could or would have brought them to Philippines. Cannot find a boat like that duracraft here. Good luck n God Bless!!

I HAD SOME OF THIS 35 HP IN MY LIFE, USING IN LAKES AND BAYS. THE MOS ADEQUATE PROPELLER IN USE, IS 10" DIAMETER, AND 11" OF PITCH. ONCE, IN A LARGE 17' FIBERGLASS BOAT, I USE ONE OF THIS ENGINES, WITH A 11 X 9" PROPELLER. THE MAXIMUM SPEED WAS ABOUT 18 MPH, BUT THE BOAT GLADING WAS IN ABOUT 12 MPH AND AT 14 MPH WAS THE MOST ECONOMICAL RUN. IN 5M ALUMINIUM BOAT, OR 5M JON BOATS, A 11 X 13" PROPELLER MAY BE GOOD.

take your prop to a re-builder and ask him to re-pitch it to 19.
@sergiomoran88512 жыл бұрын
What would increasing the pitch to 19 do to the performance?
@jamesranger62832 жыл бұрын
@@sergiomoran8851 being that the boat is very light the engine is hitting its maximum operating rpm. Thats good. But because the propeller is a 13 pitch at max rpm it can only attain a certain speed but may have plenty of hp to spare. If the engine can attain its maximum operating rpm with a prop of greater pitch the speed is increased. Actually I would go to 15 pitch to start. If the engine can still hit its maximum rated rpm then you are using the full potential of the engine. You want to increase pitch until you reach the threshold of your rated RPM. Say the engine rated rpm is 5000 . Engine currently hits 5000 rpm easily. Increase pitch from 13 to 15 and if the engine still hits 5000 rpm, That is good and the gain in speed is good as it decreases your fuel consumption per KM and increases range. It is fun playing with prop pitch because it is fairly inexpensive. If you can hit your max rated rpm easily with a 15 try pitching a prop to 16 or 17. Just add what you would figure would be the most weight you would expect the boat to ever carry before increasing pitch. You always want the engine to reach its max operating RPM when the boat is loaded. 15 pitch would likely be your highest pitch. But mabe because the boat is very light you could get to 16 pitch before it affects the engine rpm.
