This album is amazing. Owls is my favorite track. The piano line that gets taken over by the guitar is sooo good

That is my favorite part of any song, period. Good taste dude 🤟

It’s worth noting that Asger is the only guitarist in the band as well as the vocalist, main writer and producer. I find it mind boggling that he can play riffs in a completely different time signature than what he is singing (The Same War as an example)

Also this album is 100% a grower. Vola is my all time favorite band alongside Vildhjarta. I got into them with Witness, then Applause- and then Inmazes. At first I liked it, but didn’t love it, and now two years later it’s a 10/10 for me.

Man, absolutely. I think of that all the time, that is insane to me.

@@Marius_ae Me too, except I first saw Stray the Skies on a spotify prog metal playlist, but I liked the first couple Witness tracks more. Now, I am memserized with Inmazes.. just a gorgeous album, and all are intensely beautiful songs.

I first heard VOLA when they supported Devin Townsend in Glasgow. I’ve been obsessed with them ever since. Absolutely fantastic band.

Man, I'm so jealous. That must've been a heck of a show. One time tested great, and a new great.

Fun fact: Nicolai (Bass) doesn't use the low E string ever! I asked him why, and he said something to the effect of the songs don't call for it! I was happy to actually ask him face to face! Such great guys, all of them!

That reminds me of when I saw Sepultura on their very first European tour back in 1989, I believe. I noticed that Max had only three strings on his guitar, and when I asked him about it after the show, he said: "That's all I need." :D

I love VOLA :) Met Adam(the drummer) when they were on tour in Manchester with Voyager, great guy! Also, they strayed away from the meshuggah sound in Applause and Witness, but I kinda like their softer side too :) Also check Homesick Machinery, it almost feels like different band , especially with vocals
@Owenator262 жыл бұрын
Vola is amazing man! I saw them live in Montreal with a couple of buddies one of the best show's I ever seen the sound was incredible for a small venue they were playing in! Witness was in my Top 5 album's of the year when it came out this album is also a banger \m/

I had the pleasure of seeing VOLA in Copenhagen in December (they havent been to California yet so my dumbass flew out for the occasion) and my guy... see them if you get the shot. Executed perfectly live and the light rigs they have are similar to their "Live from the Pool" set-up. Absolute blast and worth the trip. A truly unique band creating art, you can tell while they perform that they're having fun and they mean it.

This is my favorite album from VOLA, great stuff
@dervorin3455 Жыл бұрын
I'm glad you put this up, because I had written this album off, especially the title track. I realize now what I was missing...these guys are the closest thing to what I want to put out there musically with my own writing. Something complex but beautiful, and uncompromising in its beautiful complexity. Cheers, Drew. You should have a listen to some of VOLA's REALLY old stuff. Some of it is quite good. I think there's a track called Avalanche by them? Banger. Production definitely not on the same level as this and more recent stuff. But the songwriting is what matters.

You need to check out ‘Ihlo’ and their debut album Union. I get massive ‘Altered state’ vibes off of it. Think you would love. Reanimate would be a good starter track.

I think It may have been me that suggested it, but maybe not. I was there that stream and there were a lot of suggestions. But VOLA is one my favorite bands for sure. I try to suggest them as much as I can to people I think would enjoy them, which is pretty much everyone.

I think "Progressive" is about being intelligent musically. It's not that I'm saying other songs that aren't prog are not "smartly built", but Prog Metal is about messing with structures, with tempo, time signatures, syncopation, tone modulation, those things that require more attention to write/be noted throughout a track. When you were listening to the first track you said you couldn't count along the tempo because all other elements were doing different things, I think that's an example of what Prog Music should feel like, and that's why VOLA can be considered a Prog Metal/Djent band.
@pedropessoa22462 жыл бұрын
Yeah... just saw that you pointed out what I said in the comment lol but that's it basically

3rd most recent album*. You might not have seen their 2018 album Applause of a Distant Crowd'. It's softer than Inmazes in my opinion, but it's still a very beautiful album.
@RebelKicks-mn4kc2 жыл бұрын
Idk why people complain about the production, I think it’s excellent tbh. The drums are a bit off, but that guitar tone fits the whole vibe perfectly. I’m biased though this is in my top 3 favorite albums of all time.
@TundraCH2 жыл бұрын
Similar to how you highly rated a lot of albums last year, I did the opposite where I was very critical on albums last year. I had a habit of writing off albums immediately after just a first listen just because I was so meticulous about it. So theres a balance that has to be made haha..

I think starting with the newer stuff and working your way back is the better method. I tried listening to Northlane around when Alien came out and couldn’t really get into it. Obsidian came out and I went back and now I enjoy them both. Same thing is happening now with Sleep Token thanks to the two newer tracks Bleed From Within - Shrine Uneven Structure - La Partition Polaris - The Mortal Coil Aviana - Corporation The Ocean - Pelegial Greyhaven - This Bright and Beautiful world Textures - Silhouettes Trivium - The Sin and The Sentence Wage War - Manic Deftones - Diamond Eyes

Regarding the listening order of albums, I think if you go back and listen to The Contortionist’s debut ‘Exoplanet’ you would like it more than you did ‘Language’ it’s a completely different animal. It’s Heavy as fuck.
