Tyler can't be considered the Kanye of our generation because they are basically part of the same generation. Kanye's first album came out in 2004 and he got really popular later that year. Kanye is still going strong now, and he dropped arguably the album of the year in 2021 with Donda. Tyler's first big album came out in 2011, and that's when he got really popular. Similarly he's dropped one of his best albums yet in 2021 with Call Me. 2004-2022 vs 2011-2022 They have existed together in mainstream hip hop by now (11 years) for longer than the period that only Kanye was famous first (7 years) On top of that I don't feel that the two are very similar. Tyler has had more of a unique individual style throughout his career while Kanye has pretty much been the zeitgeist (especially for the first half of his career).

i mean everything before cherry bomb is a miss tbh but you can see him generating ideas that he’d flesh out later. he also got into the industry younger than kanye did. not so much younger, but enough for it to make a huge difference. consider him saying on massa “at 23 that’s when puberty finally hit me”, which is ab when he was working on cherry bomb. ofc i dont think he’d find the same notoriety if he started later though so i’m glad he put those records out anyway.

I think it’s disrespectful to Kanye. I don’t think Tyler would ever consider himself to be on the same level let alone better than Kanye. Tyler once said he wanted to write pop music, and that’s all he wanted to do (back in the Flower Boy commentary). His love for chords and melodic phrases and fashion brought him to this point. It’s no wonder his career path mirror’s his idol and mentor, Pharrell. I think his vision is to crack open the music landscape like P did in the late 90s and 00’s with artists like Brittany Spears, Snoop, and Jay but with artists like JB and Kali Uchis (P.S. Kanye also had his moments in pop music, with Beyoncé, Janet Jackson, and Drake which looked a lot like what Pharrell and Q-Tip were doing)

I see Tyler as a sort of more artsy, niche Kanye. Kanye got his start creating more traditional hip hop with a very bold flare on the production end. He was also close with Jay Z from the start, and from The College Dropout forward, everyone was tuning in. Kanye's music is very easy to enjoy (for the most part,) yet it's still complex and incredibly well made. Contrasting that with Tyler- the boy was producing from garage band and writing about serial killing and rape from his grandma's couch. His brand for the first leg of his career was being the last thing that was gonna catch on in the mainstream. But Tyler had the interests that are flourishing now-fashion, film, unique production. All of these things had time to grow and mature with him. Now, Tyler is thirty. He's mature and experienced. And, for contrast, Kanye was 33 when he made Dark Fantasy. Personally, I think by the end of Tyler's career, his influence may not be as widespread, but certainly as impactful. Woah, that was a lot. Thanks for reading if you did.

Personally, I think to be the next Kanye, one would have to see their style and influence reflected in the rest of the industry. And if that's what we're talking about, then Tyler just isn't there yet. When Kanye dropped MBDTF, everyone went for a grand cinematic sound. When he did Watch The Throne, the game was awash with dance intermissions and street goth fashion. When he did Yeezus, everyone went industrial, transgressive and nocturnal. While Tyler has dropped four spectacular albums since 2015, I don't really see that many artists following him down the rabbit hole or his sonic evolution.

People saying "we shouldn't compare this with that" really decided to turn their brains off. We all know they're who they are. They may not have followed the same path, but they have the same destination , "greatness with authenticity". Deny that Ye and Pharell paved the way for Tyler is pure dishonesty. Tyler almost checked the same boxes that Kanye did. It's just a different time.

Their career trajectories are way too different to compare. Like Kanye made the rap equivalent of Nirvana’s Nevermind with college dropout, then proceeded to shift the culture two more times with 808s and Yeezus. Tyler’s a great artist but I just don’t think he’s the cultural force that Kanye has proven to be. Even outside of music Kanye put on Virgil Abloh who’s probably one of the most influential creatives of the last decade period, and has just cultivated more general influence. Like every other week I see somebody wearing Yeezys.

Tyler is his own artist, as everyone has been saying in the comments - but if we were to compare him to another artist, Pharrell would be much more apt than Kanye in my opinion. Not just because Tyler is an unapologetic super fan of P and The Neptunes, but because their APPROACHES are eerily similar to one another. If you watch Pharrell interviews, especially older, early 2000's ones - it's really apparent how similar him and Tyler are when it comes to what they get out of music and they how they translate that into their own work. They are both artists who prioritize feel more than anything and translating that feeling into their own music. I feel they are not as hyper-concerned with pushing boundaries or being experimental as Kanye is, or at least their need to recreate a certain feeling can sometimes supersede their need to create something entirely unique. Now, don't get me wrong - P and Tyler both make music which sounds nothing like the contemporaries, Tyler especially - but I feel that this isn't necessarily the driving force behind a lot of his creative endeavors as opposed to Kanye (at least that's the feeling I get). I can kind of understand the Kanye and Tyler comparison from a career path and cultural impact angle, but as far their music is concerned, they live in the same ecosystem but are nowhere near as cut from the same cloth as Tyler and Pharrell - those two are like kindred spirts. I also think that, while Pharrell has produced tracks that have become mainstream hits, his popularity as a singular figure never reached the heights of someone like Kanye. Like Tyler, P was more popular among niche audiences (at least prior to P's more mainstream solo successes in the early 2010's with Happy and Get Lucky). I would even say that Tyler has even become more popular at his age as a public figure than Pharrell ever was at the same age, but again, neither have the cultural cache that Kanye has (which is not a bad thing).

I think Tyler will be Tyler and Kanye will be Kanye like Cher is Cher and Gaga is Gaga and queen is queen. I just don’t think they should be compared because it’s not fair to say one will become the other as a timelapse because it’s the same genre and they’re both men who highly self promote and collaborate. Theres also the fact that Tyler was influenced by Kanye no doubt and maybe was inspired because who hasn’t heard something of Kanye and was rapping at Tyler’s age when he started. Tyler is similar to Eminem or even MFDoom with having an alter ego and talking in their voices then he does to Kanye’s intense beats, auto tune, and vocals and later gospel influence vs Tyler’s pianos and introspective lyrics contrasted to societal expectations. Kanye is godlike in thought and music and it’s chaotic and beautiful. Tyler is an artist who is still evolving his styles and being more fluid which means he may make things that are hit or miss and may still be bought out of collections. like cherry bomb still being sellable today out of wanting to watch the changes in his style over time at this point and merch. There’s an interactive aspect but it’s not going to be the numbers of Kanye or surpassing him, unless Tyler releases like Beatles level quality works

I really do see similarities in their production, and Tyler for the past 3 albums has produced records on kanye’s level (I’m talking his first 7 records) If he can make 3-4 more albums at this level of quality and diversity he’s the next kanye, not in sales, but in consistency, creativity, and greatness.

I remember when people said they thought Kanye was gonna be the next Tupac 💀, Kanye was gonna only gonna be Kanye, this artist comparison is so annoying let them be their own artists. Creating expectations for someone based of another artist doesn’t work. They can have similarities but don’t expect it to always hold up.

@Volksgeist I have not watched the video yet + I am new to your channel but here or my thoughts anyways Kanye is talented and created amazing music Tyler is talented and creates amazing music Tyler in his prime ( which I consider to be 2015 and the present) created a huge fan base that appreciates his talent and personality. he sales us the listeners/fan his emotional state and feelings and where he is at in life through his album's lyrics and instrumental. The moral of the story he is the creator of an introduction for something that we can be looking forward to hearing in rap more often. Kanye In his prime (which I consider being 2004 till 2011) had a huge fan base who appreciates his talent and misunderstood personality mostly. He sold to us the listener/fan his emotional state and feelings and where he is at in life through the albums, in the end, he crafted an introduction for something that changed rap. Those are similar it's like their life is copied and pasted with only a few minor differences and yeah it looks that way but between the similarities, the small minor difference is where the answer to the question is Tyler the creator the next Kanye west lie's Now I could compare the difference but there wouldn't be any need (+ I don't want to) My conclusion of what I'm I'm trying to tell you the reader the answer is kinda yes and no because they are 2 different humans who aren't similar but share a lot In common which makes it difficult to answer yes or no anyways gonna look at po*rn while listening to this video.

Low key think Tyler is way ahead of Kanye just cause he has no ego unlike Kanye who’s ego literally controls is every decision he’s a god he’s a genius he’s a savior those are not titles you give yourself unlike Tyler who just creates for the sake of it and moves on

The question really shouldn't be if he's the "Next Kanye." While making comparisons tend to be a part of human nature, Tyler is his own artist at the end of the day. We shouldn't be placing labels on people and holding them to these unreasonably high standards or expectations; it'll only lead to disappointment. Nonetheless, there's no doubt that his discography will be on par with Ye by sheer creativity and influence for those that will come after. Good analysis though; your content is always on another level.

One thing all those people had in common is that they did their work… and then let their work speak for itself. I’ll never, ever give Kanye the credit he might even deserve. Screaming at me about how awesome you are is kind of a disqualifying awesome factor. Tyler crushes Kanye in fashion one day. Ye’s only fashion move is “make it light brown” and he strikes me as far better to work with.

7:04 could have gone on for 30 seconds not two minutes lmao its just the fact that for one kanye is much more advanced due to his head start and tyler wants to reach a much more niche audience that seeks out the content kanye wants it to be put everywhere commercialized and maximalized but thats not a bad thing they r just different people fr
