Tame Impala is an Australian psychedelic rock project led by multi-instrumentalist Kevin Parker, who writes, records, performs, and produces the music. As a touring act, Parker (guitar, vocals) plays alongside Dominic Simper (guitar, synthesiser) and some members of Australian psychedelic rock band Pond - Jay Watson (synthesiser, vocals, guitar), Cam Avery (bass guitar, vocals), and Julien Barbagallo (drums, vocals). Previously signed to Modular Recordings, Tame Impala is now signed to Interscope Records in the US, and Fiction Records in the UK.
Parker originally conceived of the project in Perth in 2007. After a series of singles and EPs, in 2010, the band released their debut studio album, Innerspeaker, which was certified gold in Australia and well received by critics. Their 2012 follow-up, Lonerism, was also acclaimed, reaching platinum status in Australia and receiving a Grammy Award nomination for Best Alternative Music Album. The band's third album, Currents, was released in July 2015, and like its predecessor, it won ARIA Awards for Best Rock Album and Album of the Year. Parker won the APRA Award for Song of the Year 2016 for Currents' first track, "Let It Happen". A fourth studio album, The Slow Rush, is scheduled to be released in 2020.
The origins of the act can be found in the Perth music scene. Parker played in a number of bands, one being the Dee Dee Dums, a rock duo that consisted of Parker (guitar) and Luke Epstein (drums). Tame Impala emerged in 2007 as a Kevin Parker home-recording project in this period and he posted a number of tracks on Myspace. This brought interest from a number of labels and eventually, he signed a worldwide deal with the independent Modular Recordings in July 2008. To transfer these recordings to a live-stage, Parker enlisted the help of Dominic Simper (bass) and Jay Watson (drums) and began playing at some local gigs.
On 2 January 2019, Tame Impala was announced as a headliner for the 2019 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. They also headlined the 2019 Primavera Sound festival, making them only the second Australian act to do so. Around the same time, Parker announced that he expected to release a new album during that summer.
On 21 March, Tame Impala released the single "Patience", and has teased new music on Instagram for the forthcoming album. They were the musical guest for Saturday Night Live on 30 March, with host Sandra Oh. On the show, the band performed "Patience" and a new song, "Borderline", which was released 12 April. On 25 October, Tame Impala revealed the title of their fourth studio album, The Slow Rush, set to be released on 14 February 2020. Three days later on 28 October, they released the song "It Might Be Time." On 3 December, Tame Impala released the single "Posthumous Forgiveness".
Josh Terry of Vice named Tame Impala his "Artist of the Decade" for the 2010s, writing, "No artist captured how genres cross-pollinated throughout the 2010s better than Tame Impala". He added: "In the age of streaming and the big-box festival bubble, Parker's discography seems factory-made for both a crowd of thousands and a chill night alone with a vibe-heavy playlist" and that "his music embodies the technology-driven sense of loneliness of this decade better than any of his peers".

Kevin Parker is one of the best artists of the last decade. There are not many who can do all this by them self. His music is the way pop should be, its magical. You really can see a development in his songs and he is a creative genius not only on the musical side. The cover arts and music videos are in a class of their own. Tame Impala really influenced me in the last years and brought me trough hard times. Looking forward to "The Slow Rush"

The Slow Rush is going to cast itself as probably one of the biggest Tame Impala albums to date centered around something equally as universal as loneliness: the concept of time and coming to grips with it’s continual passage. I’m really excited for what Kevin has in store for this next album.

My favorite Tame Impala track is “New Person, Same Old Mistakes” because I personally love how Parker describes the feeling of having to move forward, avoid life’s obstacles, and make necessary decisions, even if it means sacrificing your own worth for certain people. Also that guitar melody and the overall atmosphere on the track is insane.

My favorite tame impala track is “Why won’t they talk to me?”, 1: because it’s a good ass song, but most importantly 2: because one night I got insanely drunk and I made a drunk playlist, I woke up the next morning and looked at what I had added. @1kvbo

My favourite Tame Impala song is off Lonerism, "Nothing That Has Happened So Far Has Been Anything That We Could Control" The track is as much of a lyrical expression of Kevin's tendency towards overthinking as it is auditory expression which makes it pleasantly coherent for me, making it a song I relate to. I appreciate how the lyrics reveal the idea that rationalisation leads to rationalisation which would lead to the dismissal of finding some decisive and active/participative resolution, for Kevin this was one of the core points of his "lonerism", something he had to shake off to feel better. The instrumental section of the song clearly shows Kevin's overthinking in a spectacular way, and it sends shivers right down my spine. To some extent I can get inside Kevin's head through the plethora of sounds you hear and there's always a new sound to discover. To me, this is the most stimulating song he has made, and if you ever wonder what overthinking would sound like, I would say it would sound like this song.

Thanks for your video here, I loved it! I think you really got to the heart of Tame Impala's sound. Loneliness is such a strange phenomenon. Do you think it's unique to human beings? I'm always fascinated whenever I see a lone wolf because I'm so used to seeing them in packs, but perhaps the experience of being alone and the odd experience of loneliness is not unique to humans....

My fave is Eventually. I love all the songs from Currents, but this one is unique for me. It just flows so good and I can feel Kevin's emotions. I LOVE IT

I've been to the Yallingup area... I can see how it can be an inspiring place, there sure is beautiful nature and the Western Australian sunsets over the Indian Ocean are magical, but I wouldn't call it a 'remote wilderness' as you say, there's bigger towns quite nearby.

Sample Text I live in Perth and it still feels like a big country town. It’s still amazing how people just know each other - and it’s small enough that you know everyone’s business. Yallingup is just surfer country.

My favorite tame impala song is Eventually. The first time I heard it, the melody on the end of the song and the chord progression were very similar to a song I wanted to make but never finished. I heard eventually and I got goosebumps. When I saw them live I cried when they played that song

Disciples is such a great song, and I genuinely think it's just the change from the audio quality change, and I haven't heard that often in tracks which makes it so special and different.

Keep on lying just hits different but I don't think I could ever choose ONE song or album from Tame Impala, like I could choose currents as my favorite but then I remember THAT song from the slow rush, but then not being able to get innerspeaker out my head and lastly finding myself singing songs from lonerism 24/7, IS THERE EVEN A WAY TO CHOOSE?! AND DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THE SONGS

Two parts of this comment. 1. Thank you for covering some artists and the art of music itself in the way that you do. It's refreshing yet at the same time it feels like it should. Homely. Like discussing it with a homie. Tame Impala, I fell in love with a few years ago. Never quite understood why no one could quite resonate with his music like me. So excited for what he's got next. 2. Just a show of appreciation for a little part of your video. And for something that's become somewhat of a characteristic of yours. The moments you repeat a line, and I have to catch myself to see if I tapped the screen by mistake. Genius. Love every one of your videos man. And I hope things are good. All the love man. All the love

im fairly new to tame impala having found the band a little over a year ago, but their music has quickly become very near and dear to me as theyve become my favorite group. the music is absolutely hypnotic and i find myself listening to individual songs over and over for hours on end without ever getting tired of them, such as recently with the release of borderline. although i adore almost every song from kevin, i think it has to be "the moment" from currents that takes my number one. the first time i listened to the song, i was just staring my senior year of high school and simultaneously excited for and dreading the end of that period of my life. the mesmerizing repetition of the lines "its getting closer", unsure of whether thats a positive or a negative, made me completely fall in love with the song as it perfectly captured what i was feeling at the time. all in all, i love this music and it hits me emotionally in a way almost no other group can

I’m a 29 year old black man living in Montreal. I grew up with rap and the usual, then in a high school discovered rock and it’s whole spectrum. Stuck to the whole hardcore vibe but it never really felt genuine. I never felt like I belonged and all these years I was just trying to fit in, be part of the conversation, until a couple years ago I kinda went on my own, isolated myself from everyone I knew. Was trying to understand, define and redefine myself.... til a couple months ago I discovered Tame Impala’s Innerspeaker and the rest of his discography... that music came at such a perfect time. Helped reflect on myself. See things in a different perspective. Made me enjoy the outside and nature...and that’s mostly because of his sound. The lyrics made sense after carefully listening but just his sound was enough to catch me. One love If anyone’s reading this, I love you

My favourite track by Tame Impala at the moment is Endors Toi! Been slowly listening to their whole discography and this one stood out, their live performances of it add a whole new element to it as well would recommend it to anyone who loves a bit of Tame! I'd love to win the vinyls to listen to their albums throughout again! Amazing content by the way! Keen for what you have in store 😊🙏🏽

Of course I have to go with 'The Less I Know The Better'. It blows me away that such an incredible sounding song can make me vibe so hard with the huge focus on the bass guitar and drum kit yet make me feel so overwhelmingly sad and isolated with the lyrics. Still blows me away today.

my favorite song from Tame is The Moment. It hurts me that it is such an underrated song. I know in terms of composition it is not the brightest, but the mix of the amazing synths with such simplistic lyrics really does it for me. Amazing vid!⭐️💛
