I listened to Currents after a bad breakup of 6 years. I drove around town just listening to it .. night after night. It made me feel less alone, sad, made me feel understood and that everything would be ok. thanks Kev

It was just so comforting. From "The less I know the better" about what she's up to in her new romantic life, to "Eventually" and how one day maybe we wont be so broken and maybe I could even be happy this happened. It gave me hope.

Hillsdale sounds nice :) the song I listened to the most during my bad times was "Springfield" by Anathema, very moody especially good when alone in the dark/rain.

I was lucky enough to see Tame Impala this year in London. Before playing "Feels like we only go backwards" he apologised for not releasing an album for a while and said he doubted whether anyone would want to see him live! It astounded me how humble and unaware of his own talent he is. Luckily the whole crowd made it clear we love them.

He truly elicits emotions like few others can! So much of his music is like a pair of jumper cables on my heart, immediately sparking swirling bliss or deep, deep introspection. Hell, the entire Currents album is like a sonic hallucinogenic experience, whether it's a single song or the album in its entirety! I hate to throw this word out there, but at this hour I lack a better analogue: it's transcendent.

I’m a huge hip hop fan, and don’t usually like a ton of other stuff. But when I heard “Eventually” on a Beats1 radio show, it changed everything. Thank you Kevin Parker for changing my outlook on music

The first time I had ever heard Tame Impala's Currents album, I could have sworn I had listened to it before but I hadn't. The way each song unfolded and swirled itself into a wave of feelings and shrouded emotions just struck me with a familiarity only so few other albums could accomplish. At that point I had not heard any of their songs but once heard, they stuck as if I had listened to them for years. It's quite an odd feeling to put into detailed words, but it was and still is a feeling only they have beautifully encapsulated.

damn that clip of the students singing at the end really got me. I wish Tame Impala was around back when I was in elementary school. I can't believe the "I was born in the wrong generation" circle jerk exists. We have more great music than ever because of the internet. Yeah, sure, that means we also have more shitty musicians putting their music out there, but it also opens an avenue for truly creative geniuses who don't have insane connections to release their art freely. Shitty music has ALWAYS been around, but now people like early Kevin Parker have the means to release their work that they recorded in their apartments to the world. We live in a golden age of music, don't let the "hnnnnng POP MUSIC BAD OLD MUSIC GOOD" people distract you from that.
@kwhyland
@kwhyland 6 жыл бұрын
Of all the documentaries and video essays I've seen on TI, this is by far the best. That clip of the kids at the end literally has me in tears realizing how beautiful it is to have a unifying musical force alive today. We always think of artists like The Beatles and Michael Jackson as these wonderful gifts of past lives, but my god, we have our own today, and his name is Kevin Parker. He doesn't just enrich individual lives with his music; he brings us together and reminds us of man's best nature in the face of an unredeemable and bleak outlook. No matter how bad things are now, and no matter how far down we spiral... no matter if we are allowed to continue at all, we have today. We have this moment, and for me, it is defined by Tame Impala. No one can take that away from us. What a fucking gift.

I can definitely say that tame impala is very emotional for a good amount of people. last year (I was a freshman in high school), I fell in love for the first time with this wonderful girl and she introduced me to tame impala and I was hooked. within a month or two Spotify told me i was in the top one percent for tame impala listeners for the sheer amount of it I consumed daily haha. I remember around Christmas when i was off with my family I mailed her currents on vinyl as my Christmas gift and she loved it. but like all good things, our relationship had to end during quarantine. even though I was willing to do anything to make her happy and keep going she just lacked the communication and problem solving skills to continue. that was months ago but I still think about her every night and it makes me very very sad. and every time i listen to tame impala I feel like crying because it reminds me of the happiest time in my life with that girl. everything about that time in my life that made me happy is now gone and i just have to find something new to keep me going.

I feel you on listening to tame impala nearly every single day for the past 4 years. Before I found Tame Impala's music I swear to god it felt like I was searching for his music for as long as I knew what music even was. There were only a few songs and artists that I actually truly enjoyed but they never gave me the feeling I was craving. So when I discovered the living and breathing and beautiful music making god, Kevin Parker, those cravings were finally fulfilled. This deep connection had formed between me and his music and I am now absolutely addicted to it. I kind of gained this lowkey love for the man himself which uhhh made sense considering how he gifted me and the rest of us his wonderful sounding work of art that gives me a feeling no one else ever has.There are a few songs out there that I do truly connect to as well but there like single songs from artists that do not continuously shoot me right in the soul with their songs every time like Kevin does. Now I don't mean to brag but I was lucky enough (for once) to see tame impala live at Citadel and I kid you not it was the best night of my life, I'd sell my soul to experience it again because it was literally magical like nothing ever will top seeing tame impala live and I HIGHLY urge everyone to grab the chance, if they have it, to see Kevin and his band live too.

I have been listening to tame since like 2013 and now they're HUGE. It's been amazing to watch them grow. I feel like a proud mother. I even say them at a tiny venue in nyc in 2013 and then at the capitol theater in 2017 and now this summer SOLD OUT AT MADISON SQUARE GARDEN. AMAZING

Yea I’ve been listening since 2011 and had a chance to see them in like 2012 in Portland at a smaller venue for like $18 a ticket, and the next time they came around it was impossible to get a ticket and they were like $80 a piece or something. I kick myself every day for not making the trip back then lol

Kevin works a lot with Pond in the studio, and most of the touring members of Tame Impala are in Pond or were at point. their sound is more like early tame but a little more psychedelic influenced. Anyone thats looking for something to listen to while waiting on a new Tame Impala album should give them a listen, theyre amazing live too

My daughter introduced me to Tame Impala ages ago but they never grabbed my imagination. That was until our UK Glastonbury 2019 festival recently where they headlined one night. Live, they blew my mind and my doubts about a whole fresh musical direction they could take me in. This video reflects my feelings exactly, a superb production that even Kevin would be proud of. Thanks fella ; )

I don't think you're right. His dad was telling him he won't enjoy music while it is his job, the way to make his bread. A job is usually the thing that you HAVE to do, having the right mood or not. But obsession with every detail isn't caused by that - it is Kevin's artistic approach, he is a perfectionist. Perfectionism can irritate a person eventually and make him tired.

I was in high school falling deep in love for the first time with Tame Impala as the backdrop music to it all. Initial innocent explorations, I was playing Lonerism on repeat on my little discman that I carried to school with a copy of the CD I had rented from the library. As the relationship grew more serious, we both obsessed over Tame Impala and sure enough Currents released that year and I spent the entire summer listening to it on repeat, and experiencing the dizzying and dramatic bliss of first love. Even from the portion of ‘let it happen’ that you played in the video, I was transported back to being a wide eyed 16 year old sitting on the school bus with my high school sweetheart beside me showing me the song for the first time. It makes my heart soar. The transcendental and visceral power of music, particularly that of Kevin Parker’s creation, has never ceased to amaze me. I remember vividly being on the phone with him when Tame Impala won the ARIA award, we were both so excited. Even 60 years down the line, when I hear those heavy, dirty bass lines, I will be taken back to summer of 2015/2016. So magical...

I'm a lifelong metal head with a great appreciation for classical music and a secret adoration of yesteryears pop/rock/soul hits ..... But to be honest I mainly listen to extreme metal and industrial. That being said ... Tame impala / mr. Parker have delivered to this planet some of the most poignant and necessary ... Lush and visionary .... Absolutely exquisite and fascinating musical textures I have ever heard . One of my children turned me on to them when inner speaker came out and I'm simply hooked . This incredible music knows no boundaries and cannot be defined by genre . It is simply magical and should be considered one of the gateways to higher understanding . I am serious . Thank you Kevin for this ,with love brother!
