Volkswagen Atlas Rear Brake Pad & Rotor Replacement DIY (2018-2021 VW Atlas MQB, Cross Sport)

►Your Volkswagen Atlas is only as safe as the parts it wears. The best thing you can do for your family hauler is to ensure it stops as it should, which means staying on top of your brake system. Replacing your rear pads and rotors yourself is a great way to save a significant amount of money and gain some useful wrenching skills, all while keeping yourself and everyone around you out of harm's way.
When the pads wear down, you'll likely experience a softer and longer brake pedal and an increased stopping distance. Pads and rotors should last around 60,000 miles, but that's not always true. If there's any juddering, shaking, or grinding under braking, the pad and rotor could need replacement earlier. Regardless of when you replace them, the job is straightforward and can be done in a couple of hours if you take your time.

you only need to take the top slide pin out, pivot the caliper on the lower pin and remove the caliper

Great video. I have the same brake system but own a Seat Ateca. The workshop manual says torque the pins to 25 Nm (not 35 as you’ve said and another similar video on here). What should I follow?

Is this possible without electronically removing the parking brake? Can I just turn it off with the parking brake button?

You need to set the parking brake back (what the scanner does) to be able to push in the piston and install new pads. Simply turning off the parking brake will not allow enough room for the new pads and rotors.

@@fcpeuro so.... I disconnected the electronics and was able to push in the piston all the way. Got it all put back together but now my parking brake button is flashing. I think I'll need the scan tool to turn that off...
