Hmmm... I have a hard time trying to figure out wether it is actually rebuilt & retuned beetle engines, or if they're just swapped to a Volvo red block.

From the answer I was given, these beetles belong to a Rally class called "Appendix K" Which is basically classic cars tuned with whatever was available at the time then. So... Yeah, they would actually use VW Boxers togheter with some sharper camshafts and other old parts.
