Volkswagen GOLF R32 Mk4 Review ,Was the MK4 R32 the best?

Welcome to my review on the VW MK4 Golf R32, ive always wanted to own a R32, and was lucky to get this lovely example loaned to me. This thing blew my mind when it was released in the early 2000's it was a break from the norm for VW's traditionally understated look! And that Soundtrack..............its as addictive as the 5 pot Audi Quattro sound! without a doubt the MK4 Golf R32 is a sure footed modern day classic and with limited numbers of these MK4s built prices are starting to rise. Enjoy the review as i had a great time making it and it left me wondering why i didnt buy a mk4 R32 a few years back when prices were low...........gutted:(

@@LangersVW I have it's older brother in magic black a Corrado VR6 96 with a rare shrick manifold. Magic Black was very rear in the Corrado I have been told. Just gone through a major renovation including chains , spray job, full supension,, brake overhall and exhaust. Should live for another 20 years hopefully.

I owned a 1.4 golf Mk3 for 17 years and it was a terrifically built and I loved it, despite being slow. I also had a Candy White Corrado VR6 for 7 years which I loved (bought 16 inch Speedlines from Italy, Miltek, KW coil overs etc) but sold (and regret enormously) when I bought my Aston. I also had a terrific V6 4motion too which I loved for its 6 cylinder engine and got to 180,000 miles without needing to do the chains (but stayed on top of the maintenance/ fresh oil) , although it was never quite as good to listen to as the Corrado. I had it for about 12 years. I am so sad that VW doesn’t do a V6 engine any more.

Great video mate. Just picked one up a month ago in Australia with only 26,000 kms- in absolute mint condition. Only 200 delivered to Oz, feel quite privileged to have such a mint condition example. Love the masculine character and design of the car, timeless in many ways

Fantastic cars. I’ve owned an 08 mk5 R32 for the last 2 years and loved it every time I drive it. Great review, honest and non-biased whilst conveying the joy of the drive that these cars deliver.

Hi again Langers, Fistly I just want to say thanks for taking the time to do another great review. Your personality and delivery is great. Well done. Well I've gone from wanting a g60 Corrado to a VR6 but alas I decided in the end I needed something a bit more practical. I test drove two r32 yesterday and they just blew me away. Amazing cars. I've just put a deposit down on one identical to the one you reviewed. All stock which I personally think wants for nothing mods wise, full history and very clean. Has to be said your contributions have really helped get me into my 'new' car. So cheers!

My 99 vr6 was "flash red" looooooved that color so much, almost looked a little orangy when it was wet, or in light rain. My 05 gti 1.8t is "Silverstone grey"

ODC DATSME ha ha I do go on a bit!! but hopefully you have found it of some use, mate I don’t think your be disappointed with either a mk4 or Mk5 but I do think the mk4 from an investment point of view is a more sensible choice if your looking to own a modern classic AND they are less to tax than a Mk5 in the uk i also like the fact wingback Konig seats came as standard in the mk4 were as it was an expensive option in the Mk5. The vr6 is so smooooth, i like the turbo charged inline 4's, but you just can't beat the smooth delivery having two extra cylinders. Bring back the vr6!

As an original MK4 Golf R32 owner in the US, I'm always searching for videos. Great work and love the intro shots. One thing that confused me about the instrument cluster, I thought the non-US cars had a full LCD display and even the UK cars had KPH instead of MPH on the speedometer. This is clearly a RHD car but wonder if the display was swapped with a US version? (I guess I should know more about the UK cars!)

peacems - we have to have MPH on UK cars because all our speed limits are in MPH and all our street signs give distances in miles. The UK is weird as we use Miles for distance on roads and yet use metres / centimetres for smaller distances - although some old timers like me still use inches for some measurements.

Langers VW that’s a tough one as I’ve been debating wether to get a milltek for the r32.. the corrado had a decat exhaust and sounded amazing! Day to day car I’d take the golf but for a blast I’d take the corrado any day! 😁

Yes the Factory MKIV R32 front discs are expensive, however. If you prefere a solid piece and much cheaper, there are other performance companies that do sell them and make them! Stoptech , Zimmerman, EBC Brakes,

I've just purchased the mk4 R32 to accompany my petrol and diesel 25th Anniversaries! All reflex silver and 3 door. Great fun to drive and hopefully a good investment. Petrol Anniversary on 45k miles. Diesel on 125k miles and R32 on 76k miles. Can't believe i own all 3! Mk4ever👍🤘

Does all mk4 r32 in the uk have the normal style mk4 dash with the airback visible here in nl or germany and so on you dont see the airbag in the dash ive also got a r32 for 6 years new never gonna get rid of it just love it restoring the r32 new also have a mk3 vr6 love them both enjoy it every time i drive them

Great videos mate, if your ever up north you should come check mine out. I have a mk2 VR6 on kw v1 with loads of tasty mods, my daily is a Phaeton 4.2 V8, and I have a fully specced mk4 estate 20vt stage 2 tuned running 240bhp.

Langers VW The Phaeton is great, nice v8 audi soundtrack, 4wd, air, loads of toys, horrific mpg round town but 30 on a run. Mk2 vr has been a 12 year labour of love, just putting a new steering rack in it at the moment. Had loads of VW over the years, we're trying to finish off a mk1 build with my mate whos putting an eaton supercharged abf in it.

I think describing someone’s hard work and enthusiasm as ‘painful’ is quite cruel really. If you have comments to make they should constructive and not in a way to upset others. The reaction may appear ‘too sensitive’ but really all it shows is that this person cares about what they do. It’s not scripted but a car enthusiasts review which can’t always be perfect!
