Yeah, they are putting us within their own circular logic. I can agree that a higher percentage of sales lately in the US are trucks/SUVs/CUVs. However, they then say "all Americans want are these vehicles so we're going to stop making and selling sedans here." That therefore makes our only options of what to buy are trucks and SUVs. Then the sale numbers of those go up even higher and they're like "see, we were right. Now we'll come out with even more crossover options and get rid of the rest of our sedans."

I also love the design. It reminds me of the big leap in solid design language they made when transitioning from the Polo II (86C) to the Polo III (6N). Here is why I don´t think there is a chance for a 4WD 300 HP version: You can see from the press photos this car has a simple torsion beam rear suspension. The upshot is that without the need for an exhaust they were able to integrate a really deep lower trunk section that adds up to regular volume of 490 litres (17.5 cubic ft). But there is no simple way to add an additional drivetrain to this setup. Not that Volkswagen hasn´t changed the suspension hardware on the Golf before to accommodate upgraded drivetrains but I can´t see them doing it in this segment on a tight prize calculation.

I literally for the first time in my life of driving ( and um not young anymore ), have to look to other car manufacturing brands than VW to purchase a hatch back, due to VW simply not selling them anymore, ( with the exception of the GTI or R, ... yet another example of a counter intuitive offering to filling the affordable hatchback model segment ) ... so to your point - YES ... I very much doubt the company would be against selling more of their product. It's just that the american market is generally geared towards massively oversized vehicles. And if you slap on the tax incentives to make EV purchases more appealing not being applicable and all the hassle of exporting to different market, I doubt they could sell them profitably. And yes, the reason why all car manufacturers, particularly US based ones, push tank sized vehicles down peoples throats is because they are more profitable. And in the case of large suv (aka sub-urban vehicles) and lights trucks is to avoid safety and emission regulations.
