Volkswagen Jetta Beetle Golf 2.5L Check Engine Light: Secondary Air Injection Sensor (P2433 P2431)

This video will show you how to resolve fault codes P2433 P2431. This is a very common problem with the 2.5L Volkswagen Beetle, Golf, and Jetta. The repair is very easy to perform in about 10 minutes, and only requires some pliers and a T20 torx bit. The sensor is relatively inexpensive, and after replacing it your check engine light should go away. This resolves the issues with the secondary air injection sensor circuit shorts (high and low)

Hey, i have the same 2 codes on my 2012 jetta, i replaced the secondary sensor already and after 2 days the check engine light comes back on

I know it has been a few years since you worked on this but did you have any issues after you replaced the part? I noticed that you linked a MAP sensor previously in one of the comments and there is a TSB on these cars about the MAP sensors being used accidentally instead of the SAI sensors because they look and seem to hook up the exact same. When replacing the MAP sensor you need to make sure the item number starts with 03C and then with the SAI sensor it has to start with 07C. I am having trouble finding the SAI sensor anywhere but everywhere seems to have these MAP sensors.

Thanks for sharing this knowledge, I've got a p2433 check engine code..hoping this part fixes it. Will the light reset itself or will I have to disconnect the battery. Got code from local parts store.

Hello, thank you kindly for this video. I have a 2013 VW Beetle 2.5L with 150K miles. The air sensor is blinking on my OBD2 unit, however, there are no "P" codes. My OBD unit has a green light states I should pass emissions however, my smog test friend said I must resolve this air sensor before I can pass smog testing. Ideas? thank you kindly

It sounds like the vehicle is not running through all of the monitors. Oftentimes you can have one monitor not ran, but that depends on the conditions of your state.

I resolved the problem. Thank you for your help. To recap, my check engine came on because of a transmission issue. I resolved the transmission issue - not switching gears, by replacing the transmission fluid. The car only had 1 quart of fluid when it should have had 4.5 quarts. Once the transmission issue was solved, I cleared the check engine light and drove it hoping all the sensors would clear. However, the "air" injector sensor on my OBD reader was blinking. The only way I was able to clear this sensor was to follow the OBDII readiness code drive cycle. I idled the car for 2.5min in drive mode with air conditioner and Rear defroster turned on while engine was cold. Then I drove the car at steady state of 55MPH cruising on the freeway for three minutes. I had to do this procedure twice for the code to be removed. The document I followed was called VolkswagenAudiReadinessCodecharts.pdf.
