This is the BEST video I have seen to help with this! What should I go about if my 2 fans over the radiator are not running or spinning (fuse is good) and now the AC does not work ??? Thank you!

Try jumping the fans directly to the battery to make sure the fans are actually good. Sometimes they will burn out. If they are good, the temp sensor will need to be replaced.

I just did my 1.9L 2000 golf. Replaced the cap and still leaked. Replaced the bottle/ tank. You can see the leakage around cap hole into tank. It is easy to replace tank...remove upper return hose and unscrew tank. lift tank up, you can get enough clearance to remove bottom hose and hold up while putting new one on to hose. You lose very little fluid. You don't have to drain cooling system. Top off and check after running for awhile... top off if needed.

Thanks for the video! My car runs great, does not overheat and coolant in expansion tank is stable and doesn't go down. But, I have no coolant flowing out of the return hose into the expansion tank. Every video I watch says your water pump is bad or you have a blockage if this is happening but if my water pump was bad, I would think my car would overheat. So, I guess I have a blockage. What is the best way to check for that? Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. 2002 VW MKIV Jetta 2.0L. Thanks!

Replace the water pump... blades are plastic, crack and or break causing a blockage and slow water flow. So it will cool, but if it was summer, it would boil over in a hurry....

Do you know what would cause excessive pressure in the cooling system? I have an 04’ Turbo S Beetle and I recently installed a newer engine and replaced the water pump, thermostat, coolant sensor, thermal fan switch sensor, and coolant reservoir tank. I also replaced all known flanges that were leaking. The car doesn’t overheat but I did notice that the coolant level does seem to drop as the car continues to run. Intermittently, I’ll have to pull over and release the pressure in the system since the lower coolant level trips the sensor in the coolant ball. I get heat inside the cabin and my radiator fans do work when I run the A/C. I’ve tried every known way of purging air out of the system and I still get this problem. Any advice? Thanks in advance 🤙

I would replace the coolant reservoir cap, even new ones could go bad. Was the radiator replaced? Could have a blockage in there. Did you check for good flow going into the res tank?
@mikaelplatt9472
@mikaelplatt9472 2 жыл бұрын
@@GarageMahalLife Thank you for the quick reply! The radiator is original to the car. I did check for flow from the return line; it is minimal at idle but does flow. It is kind of strange though that it seems to “bubble” out of the line. I was thinking that maybe that was air trapped in the system but is consistent for several minutes. The flow rate does improve when I press the throttle to 2,000-2,500 RPM. Another variable is that I have straight water in the system at the moment because of previous leaks I had before. I wanted to wait to add coolant until I resolve this issue since it is expensive; I’ve had to top off the bottle after every drive. Would running straight water cause this issue too? I understand that water should cool better, but know that coolant also provides lubrication and a thicker viscosity to the system.

@@mikaelplatt9472 Water by itself has a way lower boiling point, this would cause excessive bubbles and pressure for sure... the water pumps are notorious for failing... the stock ones had plastic impellers and I think the new ones too, fins break off them all the time and or it breaks off the shift. Either way, double check it too...

Are both fans supposed to kick on when the car is running with the AC on ? I noticed my car runs with the temp on 190, but today the temp went up to the next line to the right and whrn i opened the hood , only the fan on the passenger side was on , not the drivers side , any ideas what would it be?

Check the fans wires for breaks or corrosion. They both should be on and running when AC cooling is engaged. To further test make sure you have it on high and max ac cool.

I have a VW golf 2.0 2002 ,I have a radiator that has been leaking on and off but it never went past the operating temp , tonite the car started overheating after 5-10 minutes being on the road so I decided to change the thermostat thinking that it was a faulty thermostat but it didn’t solve the problem ,I replaced my water pump and timing belt two months ago so I know that there’s a very small chance of a faulty water pump ,no hot air in car cabin as well don’t know what else to do

Turn the car's AC on high and see if the fans go on to make sure you are getting proper air circulation. Those water pumps have plastic impellers and if you didn't flush the system, any "rust" in the system can shred the impellers pretty quick... also see if your reservoir is holding pressure.... drive it around a few miles and see if the cap is under pressure, slowly and carefully start unscrewing the res cap and see if the coolant bubbles up or you hear a pressure relief. You could also not have the system properly filled and have trapped air... in that case park the car on an angled drive or hill, release pressure on the res, and fill to max with coolant...

@@GarageMahalLife hi Brian than you so much for helping out ,I turned the AC on high as you told me didn’t see the fan move at all ,I did see a good pressure on my water reservoir cap however it’s kind of warm out I can see small fragmentation of the cap missing ,Im gonna try to park the car 🚗 in a hill and burp the air pocket out of the car tomorrow morning , do you think flushing the heater core would stop the overheating ? Or I should test the water pump first ?
@GarageMahalLife
@GarageMahalLife 2 жыл бұрын
@@9828JLL Replace the cap, and I would look into why the fans didn't cone on. Could be the temp control is bad at the bottom of the radiator. Or the fans themselves have gone bad. Then I would check the water pump. Simply disconnect the top line of the overspill tank and put it into the open cap, you should see a good amount of water coming out, do this when it the car is just started so it is not hot and you don't burn yourself. If slow or bad circulation then the water pump should be replaced.

My 2004 Golf GLS overheats, and I noticed that the return hose is plugged (was unable with an open cap to blow into the system to see the reservoir level rise) Can drive to work at about 5 miles, but anything longer my water would boil. Have replaced the water pump last year and I just replaced the front hose collector as the old one had a pinhole.

Turn the AC on high/max and in cooling mode, do the radiator cooling fans turn on? You could have a bad temp sensor, radiator fan. Also if a lone was clogged, I would replace the radiator as it may have corrosion built up causing blockages... hope this helps.

@@GarageMahalLife replacing the radiator is what i too are afraid off. Not the job itself but the work it implies. Is a pitty you can not just simply pull it out and pop a new one in. If it was a simple pull and drop job I would already have done it.

@@GarageMahalLife guess it is already worse enough. Before when I kept my rpms around 2000 I could keep the temp down. But that no longer works. Kind of waiting to see what my new job is going to pay me now that I finished training. All plastic inside is breaking and cracking (guess plastics don't survive the Texas heat that well), also have a clunk when making a fast turn (could be rubbers). Maybe it's better to just get a newer car. But it still drives pretty good despite the overheating.

I have a 2007 Jetta GLI. I have the same problem. The temperature raises past 190 at highway speed but right before the red lines. No leaks, the fans work. The waterpump working as well. I think the cap might be the issue as shown in this video. I’m going to get a new one. The one I have rattles. My question is What function does the cap have? That it will help the engine cool down. Thank you for the video! It helps.
@GarageMahalLife

It keeps pressure in the lines and aids in better water flow. It helps the water pump work more effectively overall. If there was no pressure in the system, the water would not help in opening the thermostat. But it sounds like you may have a partially closed/open thermostat... replace that and you should be good as well as the cap.

@@strugglebeforeglory8274 If the fans don't spin, it typically is the temp sensor. There is one for the radiator that operates the fans and one that shows the temp. If you have the temp gauge working it is the radiator one that the fans work of. However if it has overheated at any point, look for signs of a head gasket issue, oil cap may have a chocolate milk color on the oil cap or there maybe excessive white smoke coming out of the exhaust. But that's extreme issues.

@GarageMahalLife 2 жыл бұрын
You have a line in and out that go through the firewall, you can cut the lines there and then put the right size connector pipe in between with hose clamps and then it is bypassed. However your heater core is a 2nd line of defense in case your car starts to overheat, then you could dump excess heat into the cabin instead of being held in the engine.
