This is a 2004 Volkswagen Jetta overheating. The car was not really overheating but I did not figure that out until later on after I finally got home of thinking that the car was overheating. I left the car in the driveway and it is freezing out. When I got back home that night at 12 o'clock midnight I started the car the engine was frozen cold. In a matter of a minute it went straight up to normal 190°F which is normal temperature when the engine warms up. So I knew that was impossible that it got that that hot it never does that. Then in the last part of the video the This is a 2004 Volkswagen Jetta overheating. Then in the last part of the video the coolant temp sensor was telling me that I was overheating in a matter of three or four minutes of running on a frozen engine and that was not even possible. From that I knew it was that coolant temp sensor that was sitting in the anti-freeze the electronic one was broken. I replaced it today and I took a drive on the highway and never overheated again and was at 190° the whole entire time I was driving. Problem fixed for $30 and about 10 minutes the sensor was telling me that I was overheating in a matter of three or four minutes of running on a frozen engine and that was not even possible. Removing the coolant cap was a great tip. Saved me from coolant to the face.

That part is called the coolant temp sensor, not the thermostat as it says in your description, just so people don't get confused. Otherwise, nice information :)

Could a bad sensor cause a misfire and dead battery? Because I already changed all my plugs and coils on my VR6 and I still get a code for Cylinder 2 and P0118 for Coolant Temp Sensor

that is not an electric thermostat. that is the temperature sending unit. its like 7.50 at a parts store. it takes temp of coolant and sends it to gauge on instrument cluster. then when it shorts out it gives false reading.

Do not buy from a parts store. I did that and a week later was having the same problems. Went to Volkswagen and got OEM part and never have that problem again i have 75,000 miles now and did not have that problem again. Instead of paying $7.50 by OEM part $8.55 for a better part and that will last loonger and save you from doing the same job over.

Great video. I have a question does the clip that holds the temperature sensor goes all the way in? Or does it stay as it was shown on the video? Thanks for everything and God bless you.

Okay then it is the water pump it's not pumping

Vw Jetta have a plastic water pump. If it's still overheating then it is the water pump. Not the relay of the fans that would be the last thing I would check

2001 Audi TT 1.8t AWP. I recently changed my coolant temp sensor with a aftermarket BWD and now my fans don't work unless I turn the AC on. Note I got some coolant on the fan connector. Do you think the fans may not be turning on because I didn't buy OEM or because there is an interference with the connectors?

There are aftermarket water pumps with a metal impeller. They cost about three bucks more IIRC. My take on the plastic impeller is that it sells alot of new cars. A new pump installed at the dealer is about $1700 and they normally fail around 100,000 miles. How many people trade the car rather than paying the huge repair?

They sure are a pain to replace the water pump. I replaced it in my 04 v6 2.8 passat, had to remove the timing belt

When you had this problem did your fans come on or no and did you have any heat cuz mine is doing the exact same thing I can't even drive more than 4 miles without it jumping all the way up into the red but when I try to turn the heat on the cool it down there was no heat it just blows cold air but there's no leaks on the heater core cuz I checked the floorboard and on the inside and outside

I'm having the exact same problem, besides the cold air/heat part. Any luck getting it fixed? I'm stumped on what to do. I replaced my thermostat, water pump, thermoswitch, cooling fan control module. Still no luck.

Yeah the only other reasons why that would happen is water pump or the thermostat is stuck close that sits in your coolant and opens up when the car gets to operating temperature maybe be stock closed and causing the car to overheat.
@marcibm1
@marcibm1 7 жыл бұрын
The reason why they make plastic water pump is so when it breaks it doesn't cause internal damage to the Engine. I've never heard of a metal one breaking. But if a metal one break you can just imagine where all those pieces of metal will go into your engine and clause problems.

hi I have the similar problem with you but I check on my sensor by using clamp meter its working. could it be anything eles the broken? thanks

If the water pump is not circulating that could be a problem. Or the thermostat that sits in your coolant and opens up when the car gets to operating temperature maybe be close and causing the car to overheat.

I put synthetic oil in my car makes a big difference. Flush radiator fluid and replace. I had my timing belt done because it was dry rotted and the water pump. Water pump in these cars are made of plastic and they break from being in hot water all the time. When the guy took my apart he said not all of the fan blades were there. After I did that car ran smoother like when I got a new. Also had the transmission fluid drained and filter replace. Other than that I also had to replace the fuel pump because it went bad. Spark plugs more replaced as well as coiled because the Coil box was cracked. And if it cracks enough water can get inside when it rains or moisture and it will stop the car from starting. But otherwise the car is running great Drive like it's new now

my o2 jetta just started throwing the etc code. going to replace it. canadian tire charged me 67$ to scan the engine... then said it would be about 200$ to replace a sensor... plus tax. so we are looking about $300 total. i had them clear the code in case it was just random. came back on my trip home. plugged my own obd2 scanner in and connected my cell phone to check the code. same one. so ultimately, this should cost me just 30ish bucks to fix. from now on, i scan my own damn car!!!

Never overheating never had high pressure. Had the what are pump replaced because it's made out of plastic, many years after when I had the time belt done.

it will overheat if your water pump dos not have all its fins on it. when i had my water pump replaced there where only 4 fins left on it. my car wasn't over heating it was just the sensor that went bad. but if i did not get the water pump replaced about 10,000 miles after that I would have a problem later on with it actually overheating.

What made me no it was the sensor was the way the fluctuation in temperature from normal to high and it would bounce back-and-forth sometimes very weird and I knew is that.

Vw Jetta have a plastic water pump they fail close to 100,000 miles or before. If you are still getting your engine overheated more than likely the pump is not pumping.
