I love all the vintage air cooled VW’s, especially the vans. I had four of them. This museum shows the evolution of the company from its beginning to the present day. When I win the lotto I will be contributing to them so that the museum stays alive for future generations to see. Thanks for the tour.

I have owned 6 Volkswagens in my lifetime ( '61 Bug, '73 Super Beetle, 2 Westies) and each was a gem (and joy) of it's time. Always had a can of WD 40, too!

Having owned three T2s and two T1s, all pre-67, and still a fan of old VWs, this is a treat. On my two trips to Europe in 2019, this was one of my desired places to visit, but couldn't make it. Goodness knows now when I'll be able to return. Thanks for sharing.

I own the first ever prototype of the first Australian built and designed Volkswagen, they were an open utility vehicle somewhat like a Kublewagon or Thing, but without doors, think of something like a BMC Mini Moke. After restoration, it should go to the museum. Ps ,I have a 67 type 2, a 72 super beetle, I've had a 65 kombi, several 70s type 2s, 3 beetles from the early 60s too.

travelled to capetown 10 yrs ago. i stopped into vw dealer. by far the largest showroom ive ever seen, loaded with all models. cars, pickups, vans, sportcars for sale that we never see in the us. amazing lineup.

Like those antique 1950-1967 VW busses in Germany. They also make high roof VW Vans even for 2nd generation from 1968-1979 as the "Bay window", as well as the 3rd generation from 1980 to 1990s, such as ambulance, and it work like a heavy duty trucks, such as cherry picker for fixing or installing LED street lights, pruning trees, etc. Some are topless as an open models. Will Volkswagen make "Jetson" cars?

3:38...Either that white soft top sunroof bug was mislabeled as a '64 (which was first year of metal top sunroofs), or perhaps it was a very early '64 model which may have been among the very last soft top sunroof bugs made. This was the case at least for USA export models. Either way, if it also has the '58-'63 round headed license plate light, all it needs to be made into a "Herbie" are the red/white/blue stripes and the "53" decals. 3:51...This one has the correct turn signals, correct soft top sunroof, bumpers, and wheels to be a "Herbie", but the greenhouse (glass area) is not right. 4:25...I never knew these existed before! 5:56...I've only seen one Schwimmwagen my whole life at a Vintage VW show years ago. 6:17...Nice Kubelwagen! 8:55...This reminds me of that unwrecked '56(with no turn signals) Type 2 that I saw in a junkyard during the '70's, stacked on top of other cars, still apparently undamaged. That one should have been saved!

Beautiful museum and wonderful cars. As I understand these cars and the VW company they were built from the original Ferdinand Porsche design from the 1930's, who was a great engineer and designer!!! -- It was necessary for VW introduced Gulf Mk1/Rabbit in the 1970's in order to comply with new government regulations, IMO the Gulf was a great car too. -- I owned a few VW's Bugs in the 1960's and thought they were fantastic, I wish I still had them.

@@davidkastin4240 : Gulf is an appropriate nickname. There was a gulf between what VW should have spent on it and what they actually spent on it. The original Golf were terrible fault-prone cars due to cost cutting. Eg they made the accelerator cable a couple of cm too short, so that when the engine rocked on its mounts, it could tear the cable out of the carby. VW was never a quality car maker but Beetles were generally fairly trouble free cars - although the engine could overheat in Australian conditions, leading to burnt valves and consequently high fuel consumption and rough running.

@@keithammleter3824 ~ The original Bugs, designed in the 1930s, were not built for Interstate freeway speeds and sitting in hot Southern California gridlock without A/C. Although they were great in the beach towns on local roads that are cooled by the prevailing ocean breeze.

@@martentrudeau6948 They weren't built for Australia's hills. freeways, and hot summer climate either. But they were popular among uni students and young girls because they had light steering and no engine coolant to worry about. We used to hear VW's popping and banging about due to burnt valves from overheating causing misfiring, causing unburnt gasoline being pumped into the exhaust system and detonating there. Some young owners used to not realise they still needed to check, top-up, and change oil, leading to more catastrophic failures. VW used the same engine in the Kombi van, where it had to work a lot harder. In commercial service, Kombi engines could be ruined in as little as 12 months. In private ownership where they seldom carried a full load, Kombi engines could last a reasonable time, especially if the owner fitted a common modification - fitting forward-facing air scoops on each side so that more cooling air was forced into the engine. To be fair, the only available competition to Kombi's here was the English Commer van - it was not much better. When the Toyota Hi-Ace vans arrived in the 1970's, Kombis and Commers become unsaleable.
