Having narrowly saved my 2018 VW Passat engine last month, I'm now addicted to watching these videos. Big respect to you and other genuine mechanics like you, mate. Surgeons of the mechanic industry! Tapping noise from engine and my mechanic was thinking timing belt but couldn't see it for almost a week. Next day on way to work horrendous noise from it so parked it up. Another mechanic could see it that day and said belt was ok and it needed a new engine. Another garage stripped it down and timing belt was cracked and a slice out of it. Expensive job but could have been worse. @portzi2

We’ve had the same issue on our 2013 VW Tiguan R Line. The last time the garage had issues sorting it. After new rear left wheel bearing and wiring checks the issue was sort by fitting a genuine part. Great vid once again

Always an interesting watch, Baz, thanks for the upload! I have a 2015 Passat GT estate. Its now on 145 K miles, only thing I've ever done to it is normal wear items, 2 glow plugs and 2 abs sensors. Good cars overall. I remember when I had ABS sensor issues, it sets off a lot of other warning lights and systems!

Ive come across similar on Peugeot 308's. Corrosion builds up on the backplate and pushes the sensor on an angle and digs in to the ring

Similar issue to what happens to the rear ABS sensors on BMWs, the ring expands due to rust and grinds off the bottom of the sensor 🤨

Do you find that the offside parts corrode quicker than the near side because of the road salts get washed off by kerb puddles? I retired 19 years ago as an AA patrolman and now wonder if global warming has improved things.

These engine can go 300k same turbo injectors.. older ones used to do 600k the balance shaft pin was a terrible design but after 2008 they sorted it these newer ones had the cooler on the back which was prone to go.

Baz, do you find you can do everything you need to do diagnostic-wise with these Launch tablets, or is there still stuff that you need dealer-only software and tools to fix?

I've got one of these in now , parasitic drain , just over 2 days flat battery , looking like a door module, again back order 😭, you didn't show us using the 8 foot scaffolding pole on your strong arm to undo the bearing bolt 😂😂😂, i never undo the carrier bolts , done a twingo starter earlier today , so much room , not , inlet manifold off to get to it , almost engine out , book time for inlet manifold over 6 hours then you can get to starter bolts , our job is mad 😡

My passat dont have the abs magnet rings but internal magnets inside hub , ands the struggle is real , even faults with new hub and sensor , any experience with that type ? Any way to test those ?
