It's not that the car is unimaginative. It's just that the whole proposition of going environmentally conscious in a car that big and heavy is completely ridiculous.

The prices of the Tiguans are amazingly high ! I bought my Touareg V6 TDI DSG in 2007 with 48,500 EUR. I guess those where the good old times. True, today's Tiguan is almost as big as the Touareg from 2007 (and I don't think this to be reasonable at all). And they say they want to reduce carbon emissions and reverse global warming !
@MarekDrives
@MarekDrives 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I remember a few years ago, when the Mk3 Touareg debuted, the Mk2 Touareg was on sale for not much more, than this Tiguan. I should have bought it. Today this kind of money buys you a MINI Countryman :)

How does the "boring" drive compare to other similar plug ins in the class? Granland hybrid 4 is pretty numb but sportier than a Rav4.
@MarekDrives
@MarekDrives 3 жыл бұрын
I'd say the Tiguan is between the Grandland and the RAV4. But it has better driver aids than both of them, so they intervene less, and only when needed.

Thinking about getting this car as a company leased car since it has zero personal taxation. In case i don't charge it at all, would it be more fuel efficient that the 1.5tsi with 150hp? Thank you
@MarekDrivesENG
@MarekDrivesENG 2 жыл бұрын
Nope. You're carrying extra weight of the battery, so even if we factor in the regular hybrid mode after the main traction battery is empty, you're going to get similar efficiency to the 1.5 AT BEST. Depends on the situation. Maybe it's going to be more efficient around the city, but not on the motorway.
@VakoulisM
@VakoulisM 2 жыл бұрын
I get it. Just to validate my understanding this car is able to move even with empty battery and no intention to charge it at all, right ? Is passive charging enough to facilitate some km around town ? Thank you again!
@MarekDrivesENG
@MarekDrivesENG 2 жыл бұрын
The larger portion of the PHEV traction battery can be recharged from an electric socket. This allows the car to travel in zero-emissions mode for up several dozen kilometers. Once the traction battery level goes below a certain point, the car starts behaving like a regular hybrid, until you recharge the battery from the electric socket. This means it will use electricity to coast, sometimes to crawl in traffic. It will behave like a Prius. It is possible to recharge the traction battery using the petrol engine, but it's not particularly efficient. It's more of an emergency solution, when you need to go into a zero emissions zone.
@VakoulisM
@VakoulisM 2 жыл бұрын
My dilemma is actually very simple. I can get the 1.5tsi and pay annual taxes of 1.400 euros as a corporate car user and alternatively i can ask for the ehybrid and pay zero taxes. The thing is that i cannot charge the car at home and I am wondering what is the best solution in terms of fuel cost. Sorry for bothering you but you have a good idea of both cars. What would you choose ?
@MarekDrivesENG
@MarekDrivesENG 2 жыл бұрын
Putting morals aside, you have to make your own calculation. I don't know your driving habits, so it's hard for me to estimate how much fuel you will use. Assume the worst case scenario that this will consume 10% more, than a regular 1.5 TSI, because you do a lot of motorway driving, and if that's still less, than 1400 euro, which you'd have to pay in taxes, there's your answer.

Why do manufacturers think that racing a plane is impressive? Unless it's a fighter jet getting catapulted of an aircraft carrier plane's aren't that fast from a standing start seeing as they're propulsion method doesn't directly drive their wheels! Also "racing" a Cessna? It's hardly a plane performance icon.

No no no, EV drivers are the most docile group in the world. ;). Nice Monty Python reference! LOL. (I'd like to stone all of the tenters in our park....) I kind of like the sharp lines of this SUV. It's going to age well. But the PHEV isn't advertised in the VW Canada. Top of the line Tiguan is 43k CAD. An ID4 AWD loaded is 53k after gov't giveaway. Hummmm
@MarekDrives
@MarekDrives 3 жыл бұрын
The RWD ID.4 I reviewed a few months ago STARTED around 53k CAD. Is there like some kind of provincial sales tax on top of that price or is this the final price the customer pays?
@kevinn1158
@kevinn1158 3 жыл бұрын
@@MarekDrives the RWD ID4 starts just under 45k (53k with the statement package) to be eligible for a 5k dollar rebate. AWD starts at 50k and with the statement package it's 58k. All of the models are eligible for 5k Federal rebate. If you live in Quebec the province gives you 8k more. I was actually looking at 3 yr old Etrons and all of the Quebec Etrons are 8-10k less than in Ontario and that got me thinking I should buy maybe a 3yr old Etron from Que.

I'm currently in the process of getting a lease on a car, which has a sticker price of about 70k CAD. You'll see in on the channel some time in the future. It's not an EV (because that would cost even more), it's not even a limousine. You guys have crazy cheap cars in Canada.
@kevinn1158
@kevinn1158 3 жыл бұрын
@@MarekDrives Cars are definitely cheaper here but they are usually even cheaper in the US even with the currency conversion. For some reason the ID4 is cheaper here and the BMW i4 40 is basically the same price as the US. It starts at 55k here and the US. My friend is a VP at BMW HQ here so I'm going to be cheeky and ask if he can get me one.

I have had my Tiguan now for 5 weeks: It does only 35 km with electricity no matter what. The boot is way way way too small for a car this size and the lane assist is the dumbest thing in the world. The R-line front bumper should be the default for all models, the normal front (like on my Elegance version) is just plain and simply UGLY! I am basically super disappointed with this car and so HAPPY that it is only a company car so I know I will get rid of it eventually. If you are thinking about buying one with your own money, don't.
@kalervonuolenpaa2452

Do you drive a lot on the motorway or is it already cold around where you live?
@kalervonuolenpaa2452
@kalervonuolenpaa2452 3 жыл бұрын
@@MarekDrives no, not really. All my work week driving is less than 85 km/h. And no it is not cold yet. As far I can tell, the cars computer adjusts the range to my user profile i.e. it shows what it estimates the battery can deliver with the predicted most used routes (home-office-home) and how I use the throttle. I need to setup a second driver profile for my wife to see if she gets a bigger range than I do in the mornings. But in any case I do have to emphasize that I am not happy at all with this car and I fear the day when I need to go on a longer holiday drive because the 45 litre petrol tank only gives you 630 kilometers of range. In a way I know this hybrid thing would not work for me but I just could not imagine how bad it actually is in real life. Not to mention that winter is coming so really looking forward to the minus 30 degrees days... ;)
