Lexus UX - Urban Explorer? (ENG) - Test Drive and Review

Lexus UX is a subcompact premium crossover. It competes with the likes of Audi Q3, BMW X2, DS3 Crossback, Jaguar E-Pace, Mercedes-Benz GLA, MINI Countryman, Range Rovere Evoque or Volvo XC40. The Lexus UX is the longest of the bunch at almost 4,5 metres in length. Range Rover Evoque and Volvo XC40 has the longest wheelbase. Cars in the segment not only look different, but are also good and bad at different things. The Lexus UX stands out with its bold design. It’s definitely out there with the BMW X2 on the lifestyle end of the spectrum. UX is short for Urban Explorer, so we’re talking city car.

If I was spending my hard earned cash on a luxury car I would buy the Lexus UX or any other Lexus due to their reliability, fit and finish and good customer service. Other so called luxury cars don't come close to the afore mentioned. Here in the UK if you buy a BMW, Mercedes, Audi or Jaguar, you are gambling with your hard earned especially with reliability and customer service. I would sleep well at night knowing having purchased a Lexus I made the right choice.

I love my new UX200! Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but this car works for me especially since I’m petite it’s gives me some height to see over the hood and it’s not hard to drive plus I love the safety features! For me it’s wonderful! And not all U.S reviewers will give this car a good review... my husband doesn’t like it much. For me this is an ideal car not too big and not too small!

Got my UX 250h 5 days ago from GeCar Genova Italy and drove up to the mountains above Milano 310 kms mostly on motorway and loved every minute of it. I have to disagree about the noise on the motorway, it’s probably the quietest car I’ve ever owned, and it drinks very little as well, 350 kms and I had a job to squeeze 12lts of super into the tank.. so far very happy 😃

I think Marek is sending us subliminal messages via his shirts. Very few auto reviewers combine his special style of humor and spot-on accurate reviews. Nice review! It would be brilliant to see the new 2.0 hybrid engine in the CHR but i don t think it s gonna happen. The only thing Toyota and Lexus are missing right now to get more customers is android auto and apple car play.

I've just done 100 k km in mine averaged 4.6 l/km. Only negative is 15 k service interval all else perfect. Looks pretty front tyres lasted 60 k 10 year warranty if serviced at lexus. Witty review thankyou.

sub compact? its mid sized in the UK. its quite quick giving 0-60 in 7 seconds with 56mpg. very quiet on motorway at 70mph.

U r the only one who spotted the droning sound @ motorway speeds, which is fair enough. I would have expected a comment on the price, frankly a touch high, and what about thirst in town, being an hybrid..... Good as usual of course, and much appreciated 👍

Fuel economy is OK, once you learn to drive it. It seems significantly more economical than the NX with the same engine.

I see you have really appreciated the car! 😂 I actually have one ux 250h. It's a good car for a single man or woman or even a couple. It all depends on the price you're paying and the market you're in. In brazil, it is considerably less expensive than a MB, BMW or an Audi. There are tax advantages for hybrid car, and it is especially interesting when the price of fuel is so high.

@MarekDrivesENG , yes it does! Haha I'm sorry, but I have to mention that "Fado" is a common type of music in Portugal. In Brazil, we listen Samba and Bossa Nova. Imagine listening Samba and Bossa Nova in the UX. It wouldn't make the car much more interesting?

Great review Marek, as always. About the floor in the trunk and how the engineers solved it to stay open… my Mercedes E class estate 2018 have a similar arrangement. Maybe the Lexus engineers looked at Mercedes and thought it was a good idea :-)

I'm currently driving a GLC and GLE, and they also have a piece of tape, but with a hook, which makes all the difference, when you want to go premium :) I prefer BMW with a strut.
