Important notification: This was filmed before the C9's local introduction, and information regarding its kerb weight supplied to us was incorrect. We can confirm that its claimed kerb weight is 1 876kg, and 1 384kg for the Tiguan, which is still a substantial weight difference. Thanks for watching! More comparisons are headed your way soon! A refreshing review, proper stuff Auto Trader. I love that this was product focused. With the Omoda, when you put the suspension on mid it hides the weight quite well. Ive found thats the best place to keep it, in no way have I felt that its heavy though. Especially after having extensively tested the cars in its class i.e X3, XC60, GLC before making a purchase decision. I also tested the Tiguan after getting my car because I saw alot of people comparing it to the C9 otherwise it wasn't even a consideration. I beg to differ on the Tiguan feeling premium. When I had the R-line on test for 4 days it didn't feel premium, if felt like it had alot of plastic with synthetic leather. However, I enjoyed the massage seats and the superior infotainment and driver display system. Besides feeling like a big Polo, its a good product in its class but not against the Omoda C9.

Great viddie thanks. Nice to see a car journo actually considering price first. It drives me nuts reading/watching car comparisons where the price difference is massive, but it gets ignored because the cars are "in the same market segment".

A distinct bias towards the vw takes away from an otherwise good review. Perhaps personal preferences should stay out of comparisons or reviews of this nature. They hinder rather than add to any sense of value or objectivity.

No bias here, simply inserting my opinion after driving both vehicles for an extended period. Had I not included an opinion I’d be labelled a spineless journalist. I’m aware that there’s no pleasing everyone online, but I can assure you I have and will never have a preconceived bias against a car in these reviews. The premise of the video was the compare a newcomer to a vehicle that has been established as one of the best in its segment. Thanks for watching, I appreciate the engagement.

Firstly, awesome review Sean!🎉 You and Chad are exceptional with these full in depth reviews 😮🎉 Please just upload reviews more regularly as there are plenty of cars coming in🙏🏆 If it was my money, the Omoda is far more superior with value for money and features😮❤ I think a heavy car isn’t always a bad thing as you have a good stable car for open road and in bad windy weather(not to say the Tiguan will blow away😅) The Chinese at this point have created problems for the Germans 😂

Thanks for the kind words and for sharing your thoughts. The Chinese market is certainly making other manufacturers relook at their business model and the products they offer. This shows how your thoughts change based on the facts you're given. The Omoda is not much heavier yet feels more solid and sturdy. It is in fact only 200kgs heavier not 1000 as you said. You probably read the GVM weight of the Omoda and the tare weight of the Tiguan. That means it was really well engineered. It is a thing the Germans always did. Their cars are designed to have that solid feel. The Chinese cars are not coming in at ridiculously low prices as you say. They are coming in at normal prices! Everyone else has hiked prices to unaffordable and unreasonable levels and they made us believe that that was just how it is. But no it isn't. They are just greedy. Thank gosh for the Chinese carmakers. People can actually get to experience high end features at normal prices. The legacy carmakers act like the features are expensive to implement when they are not. The features are decades old. Radar cruise should not be costing R10k. A sunroof should not be costing R20k.

What I have seen is that most reviewers are trying so hard to compare the C9 to a Tiguan and the C9 is worlds apart. However, I will say that this reviewer has been the most gracious and least unbiased compared to the other reviews I have seen. If the C9 had a Land Rover badge on it, the reviews would be so different. Im saying LR because of the JV and the fact that the C9 (behind closed doors) was designed and developed with JLR. The platform (M3X) is the umderpinning they are using for the new electric JLR products that will be built globally by Chery.

The new North American Tiguan was co-developed for the Chinese market. Anyway, a flat bottom steering when is not unusual. Also , point the camera down into the bins so we can see the bottom (ports, lights, etc.). Love the cover over the center console so that every looks nice and tidy when not in use. The C9 also has a power adjustable steering wheel. Something you can't get on the Tiguan (the last of the manual adjustment item that I wish they would offer even as an option). One button push and everything adjust to your personal setting. The VW seats won an award for their "ergo-active" seats in comfort and adjustability. Even if they're not as plush as those on the C9.

I agree that time will tell when it comes to reliability and resale values of Chinese cars like this. But what you are saying is exactly what lazy brands like VW want you to think…. Stick with the supposedly trusted old guard who are actually ripping you off at every turn. The first VW electric cars had famously terrible plasticky interiors because they are simply cost-cutting and relying on their established customers buying them anyway. The cheaper Chinese brands will make everyone raise their game.

@erichweggelaar1320
@erichweggelaar1320 Күн бұрын
@mousepad9763 googling will of course produce exceptional cases. A family member works at a VW dealership and turbo or engine issues are very very rare. I must add that the car must be maintained. Any car with a partial service history will give issues. If that car has a turbo then it's not the turbo's fault. Total cost of ownership of VW is well worth it and it's excellent trade in enables one to upgrade instead of buying down which is the case with all Chinese and Indian cars. Toyota also share good cost of ownership but you have to spend money on them to get even a proper headlight. VW on the long run, when maintained is well well worth it.

The Tiguan has a small engine with low power output. Based on the issues with the previous Tiguans with the 1.4 how will this be any better. Not to mention the DSG gearbox notorious for becoming problematic and VW's expensive service costs. Crazy how you have to compare it with a car from a higher segment from China. Just shows how overpriced the Tiguan really is. Also, the Omoda has adaptive dampers which gives it a far better ride than the harsh VW suspension and the Omoda has real nappa leather seats. Having a normal auto is also already a win for the Omoda as well. South African motoring journalists will make sure to not step on VW's toes so that they keep getting press cars.

VW everyday. Even though more expensive cheaper in the long run with better resale, parts and dealer footprint. The omoda is a good effort. Even though VW improved infotainment a few more short cut buttons would have been better. Cars are safer with buttons even with knobs driving them. Interior quality appears to be slightly improved. VW dropped the ball on a few their car’s interiors. Test drove the C5 for a friend felt unsafe with slow steering and barge like suspension. Great review though.

The C5 and C9 is not comparable. It is like comparing a Polo Vivo to a Touareg. The C9 is levels up.

Wow what a biased and unprofessional comparo review, the reviewer could not even get the weight of the cars right!!! The omoda is clearly a more sophisticated car and the tiguan just looks outdated and barren in comparison.

Ive seen a few new tiguans on the road and at first it looks more chinese than German. Only ehen u get close enough to see the badge i realize its a VW The cheap looking light bar right across the grille isnt helping, it looks horrible and serves no purpose. Chinese cars in general just better looking than VW at the moment.

Hmm, wonder why that is? Maybe because China is the fastest growing automobile market in the world right now.

This review is biased because he didn’t show the interior of the VW Tiguan, which has cheap interior finishes and outdated technology. Unless money isn’t a concern, it's hard to understand why anyone would still buy this overpriced car.

Rest well knowing that tiguan is literally Chinese and developed for the Chinese market.. Oh and Geely is assisting Mercedes with the next CLA and they own most of Mercedes

I have to disagree. VW has a joint venture with Chinese company SAIC to build all VW group cars sold in China, they have a deal with a Chinese tech companies to help the Germans 'engineer' better infotainment systems and autonomous driving tech. Geely and SAIC are the largest shareholder in Daimler Benz and Geely has owned Volvo since 2010. About 1 in every 2 vehicles sold in China is an EV, so there is no financial gain to be had by throwing all your money at R&D for engines. The biggest car market in the world dictates what you need to focus on.

The only time to spend on a German is performance cars. Otherwise daily drivers for most people, then look elsewhere. Majority of things in this world have alot of Chinese components. From now, go and do research about the legacy companies and see how the Chinese improved their products - you will see they took the best human skills and resources from all parts of the globe, including from the Germans and the went a step further and bought controlling equity in the loved legacy brands. If they didn't buy, they went into JV's where they had significant access to skills resources and know how because they have a big and very important market for all those legacy brands most people commenting without knowledge can't even afford
