As a prior vet- hearing and seeing the President of Ukraine speak in English, a language that is not natively his own, talking to me directly- brings tears to my eyes. He is not a man of wealth, he does not care for politics, he doesn't care about his image. He only cares about his people and the land he presides over. This is how a real leader should act. Not tucked behind his desk or in a comfortable bed at night- but laying with his people in the fray of it all. I applaud Ukraine's President and his people. The US and other western countries are concerned with starting a world war, when a world war has already been started. Zelensky is clearly not just interested in staying in power. He’s endangering his life every minute he is there, and he has to know that he is most probably going to be dead soon. He is there as a representative of his people and their beliefs, but even if he dies, even if he just gave up, the Ukrainians are ultimately doing this for themselves, not because anyone in particular of their president. They are just very lucky that they have a president who shares their convictions and will be there beside them. These are people who value their freedom very strongly and are willing to fight for it. I empathize with the brave people of Ukraine and their amazing president. I wish we could go in and kick Russian ass... but... the fate of the entire world and our continued existence is at stake. Literally. As heart breaking as It is we cannot risk the entire earth and all its people for one country, no matter how deserving. After this is over I hope we revisit denuclerization of the world. I am sick of the feeling of being held hostage to this madness. We the ppl need to demand nuclear weapons be banned around the world.
