Pokrovsk is extremely small compared to Kursk, so I believe that Ukraine may just give it up. More than double the people have been evacuated from Kursk than lived in Pokrovsk in 2020.

Pokrovsk is literally the logistics center for the donbass frontline, every troop rotations, supplies and commands come to and from pokrovs if it fall it would mean a huge loss for Ukraine and may result in the collapse of the front or atleast a increase of territory captured by the russians, it would mean limited to no supply to some parts of the front, or even the entire front.

Ukraine was becoming Russias main gas station competition, as pipes are cheaper from Europe to Ukraine than going further into Russia so Europe was trying to cut them off entirely 4. Restoring water to Crimea, Ukraine cut off the flow in 2014 which meant Russia had to spend billions a year importing potable water 5.
