14 months since the last one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/poSQqHiAeMx4rpI and we are still no closer to getting something better than FOTS.

this video really takes me back to when you were doing your shogun 2 campaigns (over a decade ago... crazy). really inspired me to try to attempt "perfect" battles and campaigns back then, as well :)

Always enjoyed the revolver cavalry in this game, personally. The rapid 6 shots from each part of that unit made them feel like a giant shotgun on horses.

demolished entire units of shogitai in that last battle with them.

I actually find other historical battles from FOTS very impressive. In multiple of them enemies are using wooden fences to take cover and fire. It sometimes feels even a bit like playing Men of War or company of heroes (even thought of making a map like it and then play low manpower, but didnt got the time). In the last historical battle there is even a ship on the battlefield and it is not just visual but a real unit. I tried self aim with cannons on it and made hits. I could infact kill ship crews and cause fire on ship so actually this was the first coastal battle in the TW series imo^^ In another battle the castle gets on fire which is slowly spreading and at a certain time units slowly start taking casualties as they die in fire. It is actually quite fascinating which features Shogun 2 already had and how much work they put in this historical battles.
@Volound5 күн бұрын
totally agree. i also noticed the kotetsu that sails away at the start of the battle. these historical battles should be played more because they are like gameplay stress tests. competent players should be able to crush each of these with repetition and trial and error. optimisation.
@trebor7975 күн бұрын
@@Volound I played them multiple times too, as I tried getting the Steam achievements for it and I played only Legendary to unlock them and it was quite difficult. I guess Battle of Hakodate was most challenging iirc as the achievement says no unit is allowed to route. Took me like 4 attempts or so. But talking about competent players, unfortunately in multiplayer it feels like there are not all too many left. I wish so badly for a new TW with Avatar conquest mechanics

Now compare this with guns in Warhammer. It's no contest.

Kinda depressing reading "2011" release date (obv Fall of the Samurai is slightly newer) and know that this was the best the franchise got, 14 years ago...

You played any NTW3 Volound? It has very good multiplayer
@Volound4 күн бұрын
nope, really never like the look or sound of ETW or NTW. guns sounded fake like in warhammer. just never got into it on top of it. tried a few times.

Btw. I noticed when using artillery in selfaim mode it drains ammo much faster. I guess at some point the unit ammo depends on the piece with the lowest ammo in unit (also apllies to archers for example). So when you use 1 shot its like you almost consume 4 at a time. In some situations it can be justified doing it but most of the time I dont feel like its worth it. Best way to use arty is letting it fire and then self aim at same speed like other cannons.
@Volound5 күн бұрын
they get 80 rounds and i think if you count them all up, there will be exactly 80 shots fired. the bar is deceptive. also i only do the manual fire for farshotting other arty. no point otherwise.
@trebor7975 күн бұрын
@@Volound I tested again and it seems it really doesn't consume more ammo. I somehow was very sure I made a test back in the days where the results told me that, but seems like it was wrong. Maybe it was like this in Rome 2 cause wouldnt wonder me if they fucked up something like that there

Finally dude! I never give a shit about the vids u make on like, CA being dickheads -- we already know! THIS is the stuff I've been missing! You gotta make more gameplay vids like this that are just pure joy to watch. Speaking of... ever gonna do more stuff like ur old dishonored vids too?

Hello Volound could i request also a speedrun version of the same missions because i've seen speed runs for the campaigns(Hatori) but not for historical battles.
@Volound5 күн бұрын
speedruns usually involve skipping all the gameplay. like in this one for example i would basically just be running past armies through the trees and getting shot.
@YouNoob5735 күн бұрын
@@Volound i don't know what that would look like i'm curious to see it for at least one of the historical battles.
@YouNoob5734 күн бұрын
"running past armies through the trees and getting shot" not if the mission cannot be won that way
@Volound4 күн бұрын
ive done a lot of speedrunning (and hold world records for years) and know just by looking at game situations what an optimal solution would be. in this battle a speedrun would be avoidance.

Well isn't this a nice surprise. 🙂
@kaduklein18346 күн бұрын
is suppression fire good or redundant and ammo waste?
@trebor7976 күн бұрын
Supressive fire increase reload by 20 and decrease accuracy by 20. In tests accuracy has proven being the better stat so I would say you reduce ur killing power. Not to mention reload caps exist because of animation. So at certain reload the unit simply wont fire faster so its only a decrease in stats. However it also debuffs enemies reducing their morale and speed. When you see many enemy units pushing and activate on 1 unit it can be worth it. If enemy guns are wavering and you want to break them fast the morale debuff can also be worth it. So it depends on the situation more or less, but in a straight gun fight at the start it is not a good idea to activate
