There are laws pertaining to loitering. I think that pretty much covers the playground issue. Proximity laws need to be challenged as punitive.

They want to say that they were harsher on sex offenders and crime in general so that they can win the next election. That's the justification.

Well, unfortunately the very parents accompanying a child at the park are the usual creeps, since most child molestation and sexual predators are someone close to the child, like Dad, or mom, or a grandparent, Uncle or Brother! It's very rarely a stranger danger situation!

So why the need for a 500' increase? Wasn't 1,000' adequate before? I mean, why stop at 1,500' if you want to punish them, why not go for a full mile? Sarcasm in this regard. They just eliminated 33% of all available residency, by increasing the ordinance by 500'.

Um , ya , We’ve been talking sex offenders , possibly being a threat to society . But you have to sort of who really is a danger and who isn’t . Be that as it may , I ask my self is there a constitutional amendment that specifically targets sex offenders as defined or are they making these laws up to complicate things ? We’ve found that these statutes are a trap . That once ANYONE identifies you as a sex offender , you are extremely limited to what you MAY do . Starting with going to prison . You can’t live just anywhere and an offender must identify himself to the community . And then go on a web site to announce your statice , and what specifically you did ( minus your victims name) . And destroying any future for yourself . And then the authorities tell you , this is not punishment ! What kind of justice is this ?

So, this is basically a "Sex offenders Exist" law/ordinance? I love the people that say "It's a no brainer", if it's a no brainer then why aren't they arguing for 3000ft, 5,000ft or 5miles. It's a no brainer, right? Layer s of Banishment by any term is still banishment. And the "Feel good" "Playground" aspect... pretty sure most sex offenses are committed by people in familial custody. So really, all of these people are greater risk to children then registered sex offenders.

Which is funny because in my state, a registered sex offender IS allowed to go to these "restricted areas" if they happen to have a biological child with them and they are "fulfiling their parental responsibilities".

Have a better idea why doesn't the city muster up a little cash. I just put a life guard At the parks just like we have at swimming pools. They can work both as observational security as well as 1st aid when an injury happens. They could probably even have a few more youths as while they're there.
