Volvo 240 - Ford 302 V8 Swapped 🇸🇪 🇺🇸

Cameron bought and built a monster. 1981 Volvo 242 which he swapped a Ford 302 V8 with gt40p heads and trick flow stage 1 cam to replace the blown up B21 or B23 it came with. Honestly, it doesn’t matter to remember which one, because a 240 with a V8 is almost a match made in heaven, more than enough to make you forget it was ever a 4 cylinder. It’s complimented by a T5 transmission and stock rear differential. Since shooting this video, the car has new ownership, but it reminds me of my first Volvo, Larry, the beige 1978 242 whom I loved dearly. And I’m sure the new owner loves this rocket too, if it can manage to not break its latest replacement differential 😂

The older 70's 242's with those round headlights are the best looking Volvo's and most definetly in my top 3 of all time cars. Shame Volvo didn't make a v8 model at the time, because that is truly awesome.

What a phenomenal video of an equally phenomenal car. Love the setups and pans, etc. You're some kind of video production genius in my opinion. Anyway, the flatnose and eggcrate grill along with the 7 inch headlight pots were the baddest of the bad in their day and, still. I'm now enthused to flatnose my mint 1992 240GL thanks to you. Give me a restored late seventies 242GT, the engine from this car with a 5 speed transmission, and I'm not buying another car. Nice job. I had a 1976 242 DL and when I floored it, the transmission would downshift, the engine would get louder, but not much else happened. A V8 is what this car needed. Well done!

I built a 78 GT with a 5L Mustang engine, aluminum heads, roller rockers, bigger mass air and throttle body. It had a 3" borla stainless muffler and 3" all the way from the 2" y pipes to the muffler. It was a thing of beauty and I am still at a loss as to why I sold the damn thing.

A friend of mine put a 383 stroker or a 408 small block in a 740 a few years back......used to be a 264 gl with a v8 Chevy in it in my teens......had volvette on the license plate......plenty of potential in these car's.......

I have a Chevrolet 4.3 V6 in my 265 that I absolutely hate, especially now that its started knocking for no obvious reason. Rather than put in another 4.3, im thinking about a 302 ford and AOD transmission. Where can I find information about this swap? I am looking for any potential fitment issues that may need to be addressed before I find them out for myself, in an attempt to save some time. Currently I am looking at an 87/88 crown Victoria 5.9 engine and transmission.

As I remember, the headers needed some of the inner fender wells / frame to be notched or hammered for clearance. As for the mounts, either yoshifab or JagsThatRun.com would be my first look. Yoshifab is premiere for the T5 swap stuff, that I know.

TIM I've been running a B230 with a ported 531 head, cam, 2x double Webers that makes 180bhp and 220nm at 6500rpm. It gets boring after a while. The feel and the torque goodness of a v8 is amazing. The simplisity of a old engine vs a newer T5 is also something I prefer.

True. Certainly it's spectacular that since Geely took over the 'struggling' Swede, they have gone from strength to strength. The current cars are fantastic, albeit not the tanks of old. Like GM with Saab, neither Ford not GM are very good at absorbing smaller car makers and preserving anything that made them good. They just don't 'get it'. If Geely hadn't taken over Volvo, they'd have been destroyed under Ford, as just another badge for Fusions / Focuses and what not.

Luke Yeagley I made the mistake of buying an S40 a while back. It really wasn’t good. It wasn’t a a Volvo in any real sense, my older S60 is a much better car. I would have liked Volvo to remain independent, ideally. But as it is, it’s certainly better out of the FMC group. Ford can make really good cars, but a Ford cocktail is hideous.
