the stock intake is really holding it back. its only like 35mm at the worst parts so it chokes around 5000-6000rpm and thats when your touque is going already going down

Ms.Huff nostalgia hits hard, really wish you had done the shellswap like you originally planned, that thing would probably still be functional. Sometimes it's not just the big everything, it's the total balance that brings the numbers. I have a feeling Dennis knew what he was doing when he built you that head, and if you put it back on you'd get back the missing HP's.

The limiting factor is absolutely the single throttlebody. It's just TOO SMALL. It just can't flow enough air for an NA setup. ( you can't expect Usain Bolt to run a world record when you force him to breath thru a straw. It's the same with this engine setup. The throttle body is the straw in this case. Make the engine breath , tune accordingly and the power WILL come. (A friend had a 2.5L big valve redblock with Jenvey 48 ITB'S, hot cam, headers: 235hp NA) You will only ever get more power from that head setup with the ITB's (minimal would be 45mm IMO) You could also use 4x Harley Davidson Mikuni 48mm carbs. Well tuned carbs will gave razorsharp instant throttle response. Nice for drifting. That setup is used more often in the Skandinavian rallyX scene. And offcourse millions(!) of NA 4cil roadbikes. Just look at a bmw S1000RR: over 200hp NA from 1000cc! Stock, straight from the factory. Compr ratio 13,3:1...! 13000+rpm. 😅

for the ITB's running a bracket from the engine mount or a block bolt hole and up to the outer side as a bracing would mean you take a lot of weight off the welds when the engine is vibrating and tossing the weight up and down.

Yeah I woulda done a DCOE>ITB adapter, with those big DCOE rubber gaskets, which gives the intake a bit of play to go on but still ensuring tight seal. That said its limited what you can do with the AE111 Blacktop ITB's, just the port shape on them just doesnt lend itself well to anything other than a AE111 Blacktop engine.

@@ToreDL87 if i am not wrong those rubber gaskets between intake and DCOE is because of the float bowl/fuel in the carbs would sometimes shake and give uneven distribution of fuel, on a electronic injection system it's no harm in hard bolting it all together with thin gaskets.

Nice dude. sounds wild. def the stock intake manny holding you back. I quit redblocks though. I'm obsessed with the 5cyl whiteblocks now. modding my 99 xc70 to rwd only this summer. cheers

Super stoked to have a new episode Bréthurr. I can't remember how the last itb setup looked, but if you run slightly longer silicone/rubber joiners between the head flange runners and the itb runners it may help the welds from cracking,and also allow you to lay the itbs a little bit flatter and avoid cutting the hood. Taylor Ray just brushed over a manifold revision on his AE86,might be worth a look. I'm sure your team is more than capable of making a new setup work without getting spendy

another option is making an intake plenum with large throttle body. I did this on my 16v M44 BMW engine and gained 20bhp over standard. this was on standard cams, injectors and bottom end

but as we know, there is such a thing as to much flow for the capacity, pure speculation but hiss huff may made more power simply because of the smaller valves and lesser porting, increasing the airspeed into the chamber. will be wild to see when you get a extra 50cc per cylinder, maybe getting better utilization of the head

miss huff probably worked with stock intake because it had smaller diameter ports and higher velocity, matching stock intake to a big valve big port head is not gonna be a good match

Hey, have you had problems with driveshafts snapping? I drive 86’ 745 with welded diff and a 17” rims Are polyurethane bushings gonna solve this problem by eliminating wheelhop or am I the only one 😃 Thanks

Replace the "hay" fan with an electric one. That should gain about +2 hp :)

Just rebuilding bottom end with piston rings and balancing is known to make 10+ hp mabey even 20/30 on your setup one guy claims to have gotten 20hp from balancing on mildy tuned na

If you get the electic fan for the radiator you gain 8-10hp

Acknowledges theyre getting hard to find and still trashes them like a throw away car. It's quite sad to see. Still thoroughly enjoy the content and the builds. But weve all heard you say "im going to keep this one nice" or "im not going to drift this one its too nice." Then 2 months later its being slid into a wall. 😅
