Just got this Volvo C240 from a wrecking yard. No clue how long it's been sitting, but several years at least. It's going in my Bobcat skidsteer.
Turns out, this is an indirect-injected motor(IDI) like most everything else I own.

Generators always start wide open throttle why I got locked up I went through diesel mechanics in the electrical trades that shot me straight to maintenance on the unit we had 25 big cat generators on my OJT the cat Tech says that they start them wide open throttle because the oil gets into him faster it also forms the vacuum and ensures that the radiator is full of water from the reservoir ether is like crack is very addictive

Couple of things there: 1. Yes, generators start with full throttle. (I hesitate to say 'wide open', because they are governed, and a diesel isn't like a gasser). 2. Oil will become pressurized at the same rate(number of revolutions) of the engine no matter what speed it's at(oil pumps are positive displacement - fixed amount per revolution). I suppose you will have some leakage, so higher RPMs are better - but I'm still not convinced that a lower or higher speed after startup is more optimal. 3. The engine does not form a vacuum in the cooling system. Period. What happens is that as the engine warms up, the coolant/water expands. That expansion pushes some coolant out the radiator cap and into the reservoir. It will also push out a certain amount of air, if it is present. This is why the reservoir is connected to the top of the cooling system - air is less dense than water and will rise. At this point, the cooling system is under pressure(regulated by the radiator cap). The reservoir is under atmospheric pressure, generally. When you shut the engine off, the engine starts to cool down. The water/coolant cools off and compresses, creating a vacuum. It's this vacuum that sucks coolant out of the overflow and back into the radiator. This also means that any 'sucking' of coolant happens after shutdown, not on startup.

@@MacRobbSimpson yeah you're right I was talking out my ass I looked up those caterpillar generators and they don't even have a reservoir on them I don't know where I come up with that did you do a timing video for an injection pump and if you did can you post that link I looked through your stuff and I didn't see one
