Glow plugs always activate themselves when turning the ignition on, as shown by that small spiral symbol in the lower left corner of your dash.
@tarushdei3 жыл бұрын
Not on the VNL I drove. You have to push the key further "in" to the ignition to trigger it to activate. It's not a feature on every truck, it's an optional extra typically found on Canadian Volvos. It's technically an intake heater, but glow plugs is just what everyone calls them.

Not in a Volvo truck, don’t know why though. They are not glow plugs though but rather a grid heater in the intake, big truck engines never have glow plugs, at least I don’t know a single one which has.

Now you must be thinking of something else, the engines are shite, from uk!!!!!!
@Tracert-mc1hu3 жыл бұрын
@@grumpystruckshop3807 Well here in the US, they're pretty good compared to Maxxforce. CAT dropped out of the game, Detroit Diesel isn't really doing much, and so the only other option is Cummins, Paccar, or Volvo. Cummins is usually more expensive, and so that leaves most fleet operators with Volvo or Paccar, which are not a whole lot different when it comes to reliability.
@grumpystruckshop38073 жыл бұрын
@@Tracert-mc1hu tell me about it, europe and the uk are awash with volvo and paccar, at least we have other options such as scania, we have a 50 year repair shop and work on just about everything, including old usa stuff, check out our channel,
@Tracert-mc1hu3 жыл бұрын
@@grumpystruckshop3807 I'll have to check it out. But yeah, that's the issue here is that there's not a whole lot of options when it comes to foreign trucks, just Volvo. We don't have Mercedes, MAN, Scania, Leyland, Iveco, or DAF to keep the market competitive.
@grumpystruckshop38073 жыл бұрын
@@Tracert-mc1hu The nearest you get to mercedes is that DD world engine which is mercedes, but it is like all the others, full of shitty sensors, ad blue problems, engine warnings and derate all the time, we have just purchased a kw t800 rotator wrecker with a isx cummins 45,000 miles only, how do they fare in your neck of the woods?

interesting to view this. Normally, the direct injection diesel engines are equiped with engine air heater because their dont use glow plugs.
