Me thinks you guys have been playing Dr Diesel on that 3412 governor and have all the settings totaly Screwed up. The low and high idel setting is one of the simplest adjustments you can make on those hydra mechanical governors. The flames are just unburnt fuel that has blown out of the cylinders that aren't firing being ignited in the exhaust manifold by the cylinders that are firing. Injectors may be getting a bit sad making it hard to start cold as the diesel is thick and does not want to atomize. Cheers mate 🍻

Do you notice a big difference in wood processing in the winter vs summer what I mean is. Is it harder or Easyer chipping is quality better or worse or is it harder on equipment im sure it is harder on equipment in the winter because nothing really likes the cold things are more brittle and can't flex as easy oil is thicker but thanks for the cold start that was a pretty good show

Just some unburned fuel vapors making for a good show. You could in fact give it a little more rpm to see if you can get those cylinders firing a little quicker. The unburned fuel can accelerate wear by washing past the rings. The old two strokes where particularly sensitive to this.. hence the saying... "Mash your finger in the door and hold it to the floor"
@cidertom51402 жыл бұрын
You are wrong about the saying it’s because you had to flog the guts out of a Detroit and keep them near the red line ( 2500 for a 71 series Detroit )to get anywhere they weren’t ones to lug unlike a Gardner max tourque - 1100 rpm. Gardeners were known rfor reliability,durability,fuel efficiency and being easy to work on and they were cool runners.

John, are all chipper engines this hard to start or this one is just shot? You mentioned the fuel injector. Is that the only problem? If not, what would it take to start easily?
@The_blindpizzaguy13005 жыл бұрын
Diesels do not like the cold. If it’s below 30° you are not gonna have an easy time starting it usually, and if it is covered in snow you are likely going to get similar results. And the colder it is and the longer it sits Will determine how it starts. If it has been sitting for a couple of days and it has snowed and it’s like 15° Will commonly see a response like this on any diesel engine. However in John’s case not only does he have a cold issue to worry about he’s also got those other engine issues, which just makes things way more difficult. He’s got some work to do to it but that engine still has A long way to go before it’s “shot.”

Somebody needs to learn about the use of starting fluid, after the engine starts. All the grey smoke is from one or two cylinders not firing. continuing to operate this way will almost guarantee a valve stuck in a guide and major failure.
