Volvo interior dome light LED conversion (C30 S40 V50 S60 V60 S80 XC60) tuning

How to replace standard T10 W5W bulbs with LEDs in dome light of your Volvo car (C30, S40, V50, S60, V60, XC60, S80...).
Volvo in curtesy light uses T10 bulbs with special adapter which makes optical tuning LED conversion little more difficult than in other cars. Follow this DIY tutorial and install LEDs in your cars interior light, increase intensity, change color from warm to cold white.

On my 2013 Volvo S60, I was able to directly pull out the old incandescent bulbs and install a new LED bulb with no modifications. A plastic trim removal tool helped with prying off the dome light assembly. I used a Sylvania 2825 LED which worked great, but any LED T10 bulb should work. It didn't work the first time, but after pulling out the bulb and putting it in the other way, it worked flawlessly. Thanks for the useful video!

Its good to know somebody who was lucky enough to avoid the trouble I went to modifying with small copper wires to connect each side of an led bulb to the contacts on each side. Changing these bulbs in future will require another trip I hope to avoid.

I tackled this today. All overhead light and as well as the trunk and under the dash. Need one more light for the glove box and figure out how to change vanity lights. This took about 2 hours as was a pain in the neck...and fingers. Thanks for the video!

Many thanks for this great video providing guidance to perform this on four bulbs in the overhead and two more for the back seat of my 2009 S80. Took me about 90 minutes. Now that it's complete I would have ONLY replaced stock bulbs for the map lights and NOT for the overhead courtesy lights since now the interior is lit up like a Broadway stage when coming or going. But it's not terrible so not worth the effort to change back.

They weld the bulb legs to the adapters. I ended up getting some T10 holders from amazon/ebay and the philips t10/501 bulbs to replace the ones I had in the dome light. In some instances the light is way too bright so might look into some dimmer options for at least two of them (the map lights I don't mind the brightness) - Looking to do the footwell lights next because the standard light is poor

Good tip is to use a paperclip through the middle hole to push the light out. Just do circular motions and go ham with it

Thanks for the help, I appreciate it. I bought some lights off of ebay and the seller advertised it as a kit with instructions. Well, they provided no instruction. I managed to get 7 of the 9 LEDs to work (thanks to this video). The only two that I can figure out are the two that are forward (in the car) of the two lit at 3:05 of your video. I replaced them as your video showed. I also rotated them 180 degrees and they don't light up. Am I missing something? Any help is appreciated.

Hi Guys, I drive the year 2016 S80 T5 Drive-E. I have just upgraded all my cabin LEDs. The T10 socket in my S80 can be detached easily without prying the wiring. I guess for newer Volvo models, Volvo has replaced the T10 socket with the detachable type. Just sharing an update experience here.

Voltage doesn't go all the way down from 12V to 0V. It stays for example at 1V which is not enough for normal bulb to light up but LED will glow. You can use CAN-BUS ready LEDs to fix that - they have a build in resistor that will discharge the circuit.

Anyone else have issue that the lights do not completely turn off? In off position they are completely off, in on position they are nice and bright. In neutral position once they dim out they still have a little current to them and are dimly lit, it stays like this indefinitely with car off.

I believe that you need to remove plastic cover from the rain/light sensor. It splits into two parts. Then you can access the nut that hold your mirror. That's how it was in C30.

LED's are prone to polarity. Turn them 180 degrees in their socket.

Please check your passenger occupancy sensor, all seatbelt buckles. Sometimes when moving seats to maximum positions wiring underneath can disconnect.
