The obvious solution is completely disassemble the oil pan, removing every gasket and pickup line possible. Next, find either an engine or a transmission rebuild shop and ask them to hot tank your oil pan. Essentially, this is a dishwasher for engine & transmission parts. If necessary, the metal oil pickup tube can be replaced fairly cheap.

How can anyone not mention the oil pickup tubes' probability of being trapped with carbon, a new pan, and new pickup is the only way to get another 100K with the correct oil and filter at 6500 mile intervals. I would hope the p/u tube is included.

Can you please do a how to on getting the oil pan off, clean it and getting it back on sealed and all on that Volvo S60? All while the engine is in the car. Robert DIY has a how-to but that's for the 850.

My breather box and the channel to the oil pan were completely blocked and it was hard to clean. I'm affraid some of the carbon made it in the pan so I'm not taking a risk by running it but I want to drop the pan.

Robert is a hack, and prolific at the publication of bad info. Properly, you're supposed to drop the subframe to get clearance for the oil pan to come off, not bend the skid plate tabs out of the way as he does. I haven't done the oil pan removal, though I have dropped the subframe -- it's hard work. If you do, replace the subframe bushings, something few owners do but it's fundamental to the car's design and totally worth the sweat. The British Haynes manual has a detailed procedure for dropping the oil pan ("sump").

@@MrKushinator420 In a word, no. I tried those IPD polyurethane inserts for about 6 months on a 75k 2002 V70. Lots of vibration just from that. I later dropped the frame as part of a total suspension overhaul. My view is that these cars do best on pure rubber for the engine mounts and subframe bushings, preferably Volvo or OEM. An inline 5-cyl engine (inherently unbalanced and vibration prone) just doesnt like polyurethane as a daily driver, and they can really vibrate. I have discovered just how many interior rattles and plastic squeaks can come from that NVH being distributed throughout the unibody. Some recommend upgrading to the XC90's beefier subframe bushings, which I eventually did. Check my channel for the Volvo special tool that made it possible, it's still available afaik. In the meantime watch some vids about the pros and cons of 5cyl engines. Like I say they vibrate... I wouldnt mess with any more polyurethane unless it was strictly a track car.

@@reallyhappenings5597 Alright thanks. I already have the inserts and am doing a bunch of suspension work, was going to get poly torque mounts as well but I'll go with the hutchinson rubber ones instead.

Great! Is it important to use Volvo original anaerobic sealant? Or, other brand found in FCP Euro would be just as effective?

Pretty sure any automotive anaerobic sealant would be fine. More important to use it conservatively

My aftermarket Volvo 5 cyl oil pan has the oil cooler feature but my S70 does not. If I block externally the oil cooler feeds do I have to modify the oil pan internals associated with the pipe feeds to and from the oil filter?

Why not just sell the seals as a kit? People can clean & reuse the factory oil pan, no?

Hey guys, what does it mean when the pcv glove test is fine (engine has vacuum), but mostly everytime i open the hood the dipstick has been pushed out and leaked oil all over the hoses around it?

It probably means the crankcase has vacuum at idle, when you're running the glove test. But at higher RPM while driving, the PCV system can't keep up and positive pressure develops, which pushes out the dipstick along with some oil. Deal with it! You're lucky only the dipstick is leaking.

@@reallyhappenings5597 Thanks. It was super loose in there as well, I took a new one out of a 2003 v70 I just maintenanced and it hasn't popped out since. I'll have to do pcv on this one soon though I guess.

@@MrKushinator420 PCV is not annoption on these cars. Every 90k at minimum I'd say. Use the opportunity to clean the throttle and intake manifold. Tge car must be able th o breathe.

@@reallyhappenings5597 Yea I've done the same thing on a 2003, the throttle was so bad that cruise control would cut out and make the car die until restarted, super unsafe on highway. Replaced throttle body on that one just to be safe, and started using only tri-clean gas just as an added measure

This oil pan will not fit an S80. This is specifically for the V70R / S60R engine.
