It's gonna sound somewhat stupid but I think the best part of this video is the fact you took the time to clean your parts when you had them apart. That shows a level of deep care that most people don't think about.

17:44 = reminded me of the zip tie trick. Put a zip tie through the gasket and one of the holes. That holds it in place while you get the other bolt started loosely. Then cut the zip tie and pull it out. Install the other bolt and you're done. No goop to cause you grief later.

For someone who hasn't done any serious parts replacement on a car since a '66 Mustang, parts of this were terrifying to watch. You do beautiful work. Everything looks so good when you're done. Really glad you're spending your money on these Volvo parts instead of, say, a new Hasselblad... ✌

I like the V70R original manifold's rugged sound but the deep notes of the Japanifold are great too. It's a hard choice between either, but I like the off the line sound of the R much more.
@wheelemverb4 ай бұрын
Both are great! I think I’d have to pick japanifold and I’m not just saying that because I just spent a week putting one on 😅
@Levi-gj2ph4 ай бұрын
@@wheelemverb I definitely think the long term sound of driving the Japanifold is much enjoyable, I'll have to agree!
@justind10454 ай бұрын
The japanifold (as well as the 850/x70s) are designed with runners with lengths that flow much more efficiently according to the firing order. This is why the R manifold sounds raspy, and the Japanafold, etc…sound like baby V10s. The way Porsche meant them to sound.
@pistta3 ай бұрын
R mani flows better. just look at it. that square shaped "japanifold" is obviously a loss in terms of power and head flow. not sure y anyone would want to make it more difficult for that ehaust gas to leave that cylinderhead. cant beat a tubular equal length setup tho

Great job Willem! Did a similar job to my 05 Forester XT. Turbo, downpipe, up pipe, intercooler, 3port BCS and intake. It totally transformed the car and it makes some unreal turbo sounds. I can definitely empathise with feeling like it would've never been put together and the accomplishment of completing it all was equally as great as hearing the turbo spool and whoosh the first time! Well done once again!

bro these old Volvos are so underrated I appreciate every one that is kept in good shape up and running and not driven into the ground and disposed. There is a tendency for Volvos to end up like that because with the bare minimum of maintenace they last so long. These Videos hella motivate me to keep my 2007 Diesel model in top notch. A Diesel Volvo is a unicorn in itself 😅 and I dont see the point of not taking care of your stuff. Also the D5244T engine that was Volvos mainline Diesel for many years is legendary for standing out in terms of reliabilty and longevity along most european diesels. So I know 250k kilometers on the odo now is nothing. I want to clean out the EGR system and change the automatic transmission fluid this spring along a standard service (oil, filters etc). And look into a set of Bilstein B6 OE replacement struts to improve the ride.

With time we all learn and get better so just a tip: next time you want to remove your exhaust manifold do not buy the 5 individual gaskets recommended for these cars it makes your life way harder for no reason. Buy the single piece p1 Volvo 5 cylinder gasket. The engines have the same exhaust ports and the only thing you have to do is cut a small corner of the gasket off so it clears either a bolt or the water pipe or something on the back of the engine…I can’t remember it’s been forever since I swapped my manifold when I was doing my big turbo setup on my last s60 T5. But people have made videos and write ups about where you have to trim

Just finished binge watching every video on your channel last night. Loved every minute. Sold off my Volvos, but your videos helped me to scratch that itch to hear a proper T5 exhaust note. Nothing compares, except for maybe Volkswagen VR6 and W8 engines. And that's coming from a JDM fan who hates European cars... Your channel also reminded me why I shouldn't consider getting another Volvo 😅. As boring as my 2003 GS300 is, it at least doesn't drain my bank account nearly as quick as my 2.5T and 3.2 Volvos did...
