thanks for the great advice. I found a 10mm to 3/8 inch square adapter at Biltema for removing horse shoes. This worked well. fnally got around to removing the plug 5 years after buying the boat and now I have a lovely tap instead. Without your video I would have given up and never changed the coolant.

Love your videos. Very helpful as a fellow MD2020 owner. Love your obsession with green paint. I don't have much left on my 1996 version.

In my search for paint I have found out there is some primer for iron and some for aluminium, and also a zinc based primer for the brass parts. The Volvo green spray paint you can get for aound 32 US dollars so a light paint renovation is quite easy.

Hmmm! Once I halt the water leaks and the oil leak and the rust fest, i'll be ready for the green stuff.I also enjoy your accent, having spent some time Offshore Denmark, it is a positive reminder of some of the nice people I met. It's true what the say. "There's nothing like a Dane!"

Remove the coolant drain plug while the filter is off . That way you can get your fingers on the plug . Also put some rubber sealant on the threads when you put it back in .

Why aren't you showing the paint process? I have also some paint job on the engine and don't know well how is the best way, I bought volvo green engine spray, after sanding the surface is it enough 2 layer?

What happens with a broken blade of the impeler? Where does it gets and if could it obstruct the circuit in some critical place?
@twiper4 ай бұрын
When a impeller blade is broken off it will be sucked into the system and then floating around infront of the heat exchanger. But I think a lot of broken impeller blades must be present to make a cooling problem. No blades in the system is of course most optimal.

Hi Tino, do you remember the torque for fastening the drain plug? Thanks in advance and best regards
@twiper2 жыл бұрын
There is no torque specks for the drain plug. I also asked someone from Volvo penta at a boatshow to verify. They said it must be good hand tight.

Hi Tino, Love your videos of you renovating this engine. One small issue - I think above the BATO number should be 12882 and not 12880?
@mikewomersley78886 жыл бұрын
Well done Tino, I have exactly the same boat and engine , probably the best explanation of servicing this engine and boat maintenance ever. Are you going to tackle the seal on the sail drive?
@twiper6 жыл бұрын
Thanks :) - Mads from Sail Life has just changed his "seal" on the saildrive. Check it out here : kzbin.info/www/bejne/pqinYYdvqNCeiqc - I have not any plans to change my seal because I know it can last +30 years. But when I get the new 39-40 foot boat I'll change the seal due to my "Sailing around the World" project.

You can buy a small tap and an adaptor (from Volvo), then you can use a hose (and no tools) when emptying the coolant, so you avoid the cleaning mess
