2005 Volvo V50 Timing Belt Replacement on a D5 including replacing the idler and tensioner. Usually I would also recommend replacing the coolant pump. Customer opted out this time.

Can't believe you managed to change it all in 22 minutes. The main dealer told me 4.5 hours

In total that sounds about right… don’t forget I cut the video down to be as short as possible for the viewer

Great video. Did my first timing belt and waterpump change with these instructions. Although I had it easy as the engine is out of the car atm 😂

Hello , do you need to be in neutral gearbox to turn the engine with the tool to check if it is ok ? Thank you and great video 👍🏻

Being in neutral will make it easier yes

Which Dewalt model is your impact wrench, and how much torque does it have. I guess the crankshaft pulley nut requires quite a lot of torque.
@maxautouk7 ай бұрын
I have the dewalt 18v XR impact wrench with a detent pin rather than a hog ring and it is capable of over a thousand nm of torque but to be honest, all impact wrenches are pretty decent these regardless of brand

I think those Volvo water pumps are good for well over 150,000, but I think I would change mine when I do it next time.

Hey, where did you get the instructions for this procedure from? can you request them from Volvo or somewhere else?

Hi there, i pay for technical information from all main dealers but they dont usually give it away for free no

can you explain why you didnt lock the flywheel?
@maxautoukАй бұрын
There is no need to lick the crankshaft

i was told the cams can move without the actual outter sprockets moving making those marks irrelavent really .
@maxautoukАй бұрын
If you remove the pulley then sure, you have to take cylinder 1 to TDC but otherwise the marks are fine to use What i have shown in this video is the main dealer procedure

You cannot properly tighten the belt if the crankshaft and camshaft pulleys are still. The camshaft pulley has 4 bolts that are alowing you to joggle the pulley ( separate from camshaft ) when you tighten the belt...then you need to retighten them Ps The problem is how you gonna alighn next time the camshaft.....( as the pulley is gonna move around the camshaft) Normally the camshaft shoult have a block by himself( separate from pulley)... I'm a Volkswagen LT 35 ( 2.5) mechanic and basically is almost the same procedure and engine..

I followed the procedure to the letter from the main dealer for this VIN 👍🏽 always nice to get some real world feedback though so I appreciate the comment, thanks

@@maxautouk what ever tutorialautoromania8567 said makes no sense to me and the vw 5 cylinder is different than the D5 engine.
@maxautouk Жыл бұрын
@@NeilD163 I know… if you slacken off the bolts on the cam it changes the position of the timing marks relative to the camshaft and can retard or advance the camshaft by a tooth either way… but not usually much point trying to explain anything to people because they often get defensive so I just try to be polite
