I enjoy your reviews, they give a great flavour for the car you are testing. I would like to see real world MPG for hybrids and PHEVs and real world EV range for PHEVs and full EVs. They are the questions I get asked most, usually by random strangers when I charge my car in public.

This sort of PHEV is a stop gap to full BEV. With a short all-battery range, this limits the use cases for non-petrol running to very few. Manufacturers need to move away from hybrids and short-range PHEVs as they simply are not enough to make a positive difference in Climate Change as a true zero-emissions EV can. And with this price point, this is a car for those with unpractical budgets or very little daily range requirements, to which those are few too.

The infrastructure is not in place for many people to go full EV. Plugins are a reasonable stop gap, if they are used as designed. Hopefully it will get people used to plugin in vehicles. They are also a good solution for people who cant charge at home (me). Public or work placed chargers are the only place for me to charge.

If you live someplace, and only expect to drive in areas where, where charging stations are thick on the ground then I'd agree with you. There are large swaths of the Western United States and Canada, though, where they're only available regularly on the main highways and, well, why would you want to take a road trip on the interstate? If fast chargers were dense enough on the ground I'd be quite happy to look at a BEV, but they're not so something like this that will do the majority of our driving on electric is a better solution than sticking to ICE.

@@3204clivesinclair I totally agree Sir . I too have been down the EV route and it was a huge mistake . Until you can pull up at any station and have 12 supercharging points of 150KW capability , most long distance drivers will not make the change . The other issue is on par pricing with your average ICE vehicle .

A fossil fuel vehicle does not need to block a rapid charger, Volvo are quite right to avoid fast charging.

Without fast charging, you still get it blocking a rapid charger but charging at the slowest 3.6kW, simply blocking the charger for longer. With fast charging, it would park, charge for 15 minutes and leave, without it it's minimum of 3 hours to full.

Official EPA EV range is 17 miles. No way you can get close to 28 miles, maybe 20 at best.

PHEV VERSION. The singular most disappointing aspect of the charge system is it inability to set a charge timer either through the car or app. So unless you have a smart home charger people like me on an economy 7 tariff need to be nocturnal to benefit from off peak charging. Volvo UK offer no solution. A retrograde step from earlier models and spoiling my enjoyment of a brand new car!

With the increasing use of leasing the cost of this car seems reasonable. but really just how much of your monthly wages do you think it is worth for this car. if you want a short range car for the kids run there are cheaper petrol cars. if you want to save the planet use public transport. if you need quiet spend time in a library. cars today are very over priced, sooner or later the populace will wake upto that fact.

The worst car I own. Has too much mechanical problems engine lights high beam lights and so much more don't buy... My Nissan Murano right out of college never gave me any issues but this is like... oh the passenger side seats out
