Yes, these cars feel impeccable for a long time if they're given some basic maintenance love by their owners. They can be 20 years and feel fresh. They're not exactly cheap to maintain but they will always give back the money in form of comfort, reliability and safety. I once towed out a Ford pickup out of a ditch with my 2009 XC70 in the winter and that is one of the most satisfying things I have ever experienced with this vehicle especially for someone who has been pointed out by his peers as driving a " soccer mom car" 😂.

I have an 2001 V70XC that I bought from someone who's water pump bearing failed, causing the timing belt to jump, resulting in bent valves and their subsequent posting of the vehicle for sale. Changing the timing belt isn't the only concern, as seen in this example: the water pump, timing belt, idler pulley and tensioner all need to be changed together to ensure that all components of the camshaft drive are in good condition. I'd also like to suggest that when replacing these items that you spend as much as you can afford for quality replacement parts and not be tempted to save some money by installing off-brand parts that may fail prematurly. I chose to use an OEM AISAN water pump and a high performance timing belt kit from Gates. Also, if you're concerned that the belt or components are due for a change and you haven't yet reached the recommended mileage for the change, go ahead and replace them. You will sleep better knowing that you erred on the side of caution even if some say you changed them out prematurely. I can attest that finding and installing a rebuilt cylinder head wasn't easy or inexpensive as compared to what it costs to change out the timing belt kit.

Drove my 2004 xc70 310000 miles. It had the factory timing belt, water pump on it. The guy that bought it still drives it today and it has over 340000 on the factory timing belt and water pump. I lost the #1 coil coming out of Baltimore inner harbor, the car drove me and my kids all the way home over the Frederick mountains and safely to WV. I replaced the coil and drove it like nothing happened. These cars are bullet proof. My 2006 xc70 has 198000 and all I do is change breaks, coils and spark plugs & air filter. Idk who made this timing belt thing up, but I've never replaced one and I run my xc70s hard. Rarely do I do under 80 on the interstate. And they both berried the 160 on the dash.

@@HereXEG perhaps u dn't know what a timing belt is? I'ts extremely rare and risky as hell to run one for more than about 10 years if a daily driver, and 130K miles tops, though many will last longer miles, but not total drive cycles per numbers if daily driver for 10 or 15 years, tops, even with the best designs, which volvo is not one of even. Your ignorance and confidence is classic and very american, i can say as a fellow yank who loves Maryland btw. Smh and laughing at your obtuse ignorance and your dangerous speeds in a volvo wagon of 160mph!? i like to go fast too but that is nuts and risky to the public on american roads NONE of which are designed for even 130 let alone 160!! and if your kids were with u at that speed, the state would remove them from your care if they knew, and would do so for good reason! You really take the cake re all the comments i've ever read on YT re car usage. U define the new modern definition of american 'dupidity.

My parents have a 2003 Volvo XC70 with the 2.5T. It has 450,000 km. AWD doesn’t work (common issue) but works well as FWD. Sunroof doesn’t work. The original turbo is needing to be replaced soon, but it still drives great. I’m taking it to my mechanic to be looked at for them. It still averages 8.7L per 100km which I think is pretty good. These wagons have just aged beautifully.

The title of this video is misleading. This huge lump of information you give is you reading statistics of possible problems, you are not giving me any indication of what i should check for before i buy. Which is a completely different process.

Im on my 4th v70xc and they have been overall bad ass! It helps to know how to work on them yes. Timing belts are actually very durable and don't need changed till at least 100,000 miles.

2002-2004 was the best years. I love my 2006 cause it is fully loaded and has the black interior. The sound system is sooooo good with the factory subs! It has 198000. My old 2004 had 310000 on it when I sold it. Now it has 340000 on it. It was a base model and the sound system sucked, but that car lost the first coil as me and the kids came out of Baltimore inner harbor and drove us all the way home on only 4 cinders over the Frederick mountains to WV! I replaced the coil and drove it another 100000+ miles. That car was a tank that would gross the 160 mark on the dash. It was a real sleeper and everyone called it the old mans car, til all I saw was them in my mirror.

This is 2024. These issues are regarding older (2007 back) Volvos. I just bought a used 2015 XC70 3.2I AWD Platinum with 155K miles. It is loaded with options. The only warning with this engine (3.2L inline 6 cylinder) when researched was primarily oil use. I changed the PVC assembly as recommended and found the previous owner had done the same in 2022! Anyway, this is an awesome crossover vehicle! 230HP and 28.5 MPG petrol. Very happy driver ;))

By leaps and bounds, the very worst car I’ve ever owned. 2001 v70 xc. Bought used with 125,000 miles. Constant issues with everything. Transmission internal drum failure, engine mounts, CV shafts, angle gear leaks, viscous coupling seized, driveshaft support bearing, exhaust, several wheel bearings multiple times, struts, springs, steering rack, steering coupler, several blower motors, alternator, ac compressor, etm, intake ducting, intercooler ducting, cam phaser, cam seals, flex plate, ignition lock cylinder, shifter gate, driver door module, sunroof leaks, heated seat grid failures, numerous emissions/ evap leaks, purge solenoid, vapor canister hoses, sway bar bushings, sway bar links, heater connector leaks, other than that, very highly recommended 😂

@@danthydude I have no idea how many owners before me, but every one of the problems this car has had are considered common problems with multiple complaints. Regardless of the number of owners, the problems would need to be fixed by someone as they happen. Anyone claiming this is a dependable car hasn’t owned one for any amount of time.

I've seen the newest SUV's and hatchbacks which have become shorter with more plastic and thinner metal bodies that a hail storms have destroyed while they sat on the car lots to be sold to anyone who doesn't know any better. You get what you sometimes pay too much for while expecting more and getting less. With Volvo, the only thing I don't like is the price although you do get what you pay for and sometimes, unexpectedly, you get a whole lot more before you start paying more for repairs.
