I bought a 2016 last year. It is such a nice car. We drove it cross country through AZ, UT, CO. Went off road a bit in CO until it got too rocky. The car handled all of it no problem.

I own a V70 myself but the XC70.. Weuww, might just be the most enjoyable car to drive ever. Great as a daily but also fantastic off road.

04 XC70 owners rejoice...just how capable our VOLVO version is. That would have been a helluva trip to be part of. No matter the trip, just driving an XC70 is pure pleasure. This pure rugged get through it video was superb..... VOLVO...for life.

Last month my mechanic said we finally had to admit defeat and scrap my 21 year old v70. He looked thoughtful for a moment and asked if I’d be interested in a mint xc70 that another customer was selling. Yes I was.

I just bought one to have to haul my dirt bike to remote locations. It is the typical Police vehicle here in Sweden and I always think of them when I see an XC70. :)

Yes. The front tires wear out much faster, of course. I actually have a different pair in the front and back of my 04 XC. I know you shouldn’t mix, but it will be ok 👍🏻

and how long that poor haldex will last if you use car in conditions like this often? Local volvo specialized service told that 4-5 yr old cars arrive often with haldex pump issues or with no splines in angle gear.

Fuel is a downside. Huge tank but it sure drinks alot but overall its the most sold car ever in all of Sweden and you see them every single day a bunch of them. They are the ultimate daily driver, not because I love Volvo but because this P2 Volvo XC70 can take some nasty critical damage and keep roll. Absolute units. Crazy power in these ones and 5/5 in comfort and safety. So the fuel in itself is not a problem when you get such a great experience. Plus, if you got kids you want them to drive comfortable AWD and high up.

Google says a Volvo typically will last for 20 years, which is much better compared to 15 years of Passat. What I am wondering is how safe could they be after 10/15 years on the road? Airbags, let's say, are guaranteed for ten years to work properly, after that they need to be changed. And there is this 'metal fatigue' issue. A 2005 Volvo xc70 has 16% more metal, which is to assure safety, I guess, compared to a 2008 Forester. Can we say 2011/12/13 Civic/Corolla/Jetta are safer than a 2005 XC70? As you see I need ideas here. Thanks.

Most crashes are left hand turns, following too close, and not letting people change lanes. You can't crash into air. The more space you have, the safer you are. Metal fatigue can change none of the above.

If I'm correct the grey one is a newer model (2005 and newer) and has a Haldex. Older models (black/blue one in this vid) have the viscous coupling unit
