If your transmission is slipping and throwing codes, check your driver side CV axle. If the internal field goes bad, it will suction transmission fluid and inject grease into the tranny. The change in viscosity will cause the trans to fail, all diagnostics will be wrong. When this happens, change the transmission fluid and filter, and install a Transgo shift kit. Replace your CV axle. Reset the codes and it will last another 100k if you haven’t burned the clutches off. This issue is specific to the 4T65 transmission, possibly others .

Hi. Thanks for the video. Makes it look very easy. I managed slip off the cover, though it scraped the subframe but no deformation. I couldn't get the bolt out to drop the subframe, limited tools and just stuck bolts. Now that it's out, I got a replacement VB and cleaned all the solenoids, tested them and theyre working fine mechanically and electrically. I'm just concerned about the fitting the vb cover again as I don't know the torque specs for the bolts on the vb cover. Couldn't find any online either. I've opted for Victor Reinz reinzosil. It cures really well and forms a decent rubberized seal. I was impatient and filled up the atf too soon and had to remove and reseal. So I've learnt why the wait is needed, seen the error of my deeds and also seen just how good this sealant is

I've just ordered the new version body with new pan gasket, is there a gasket for the actual valve body, as I'm unaware of one, thanks
@HeapsofProjects2 жыл бұрын
No, the pan uses liquid gasket/silicone but the valve body has a small gasket just under a small cover and that can be usually reused.

@@ryanevans8033 it is just a small gasket under the small cover held in place by 2 bolts. You will see it. The actual valve body has no gasket. You don't have to wait for liquid gasket to set, I have always put it together and filled straight away and never had any leaks. I have done it approx 15 times over the years.

Hello , I have a question please. After the replacement did you reprogram the valve unit or it just work ? Do you know also if after a gearbox replacement do I have to reprogram the gearbox to work ?
@HeapsofProjects2 ай бұрын
@@6945644 no you don't have to reprogram the valve unit but it helps if you can zero the adaptions in TCU üso it learns smooth shifting again. You don't have to reprogram when replacing gearbox if you keep your old transmission computer (TCU).

My (UK registered) 2006 XC90 with 175k Miles (281k Km) and TF-80SC has this issue (shift flares mostly between 2 and 3) but my 2007 with 155k Miles (249k Km) apparently has a slightly modified valve body and is fine (so far). It's apparently a known issue and there is a thread on one of the Volvo forums with chassis number ranges affected. Anyway, I done a DIY "rebuild" on the valve body using a Transgo kit which involved clearing out the solenoids (after cutting them open) and fitting new (stronger) springs and suchlike, not yet test driven the car being one of my slower projects at the moment. Hopefully it's solved the issues. I have VADIS to reset the oil life and adaptations too.

Hi, I've the xc90 2006 d5 as well and I'm just recently experiencing this after recent oil changes or top up rather. There was a rather rough gear change which I immediately notified the mechanic. Once it was topped up, it vanished and it's been a few months since, perhaps 4. Not sure if I need to have the valve body rebuilt, replaced yet but just to confirm, is the valve body referred as AW 50-50SN?

Hi. I gave the same issue with my xc70 3.2. Can you provide more information about your way of rebuilding and how it affect after?
@gavinstirling7088 Жыл бұрын
@@Mr.body1917 I actually sold the car a while ago but it was re-registered and driving again so seems the repair was a success. If you Google for " Transgo TF80SC " it should be near the top of the search results. It's a complicated job but I'm only a hobbyist mechanic and managed it. It did take me a few weeks and the car was already partly dismantled at the front which helped through.

@@HeapsofProjects Volvo (or is it Aisin Warner) say that these gearboxes are "sealed for life" but I agree that a fluid change is definitely recommended, perhaps after taking a look a the colour rather than mileage based. If it's a secondhand car with a tow bar then you never know how hard a life the gearbox has had.
