I'm a Chiaogoo knitter, hands down! I thought it was funny, watching this episode, because the reasons you shy away from Chiaogoos (the stability of the cable) are the reasons I love them! And the reasons you like Hiya Hiya Sharps are the reasons I don't like them! I just love how passionate we as knitters are about our tools of choice!

I had the same feeling. But that goes to show - the perfect tools are the tools that work for you. Have you considered the Chiaogoo spin cables? They are about $10 and provide the flexibility you like.

I totally agree, I'm the same as you. I love the chiagoo cables. The Lace version is my fav, not a fan of the bend in the needle on the Red version.

I wanted to post and thank you for probably the most respectful way to disagree with somebody. I really enjoy these videos and the community who follows them. I'm a father of 5 girls and started knitting to help make pretty things for my daughters and to find a peaceful, non-electronic hobby since leaving the Army.

The beauty of knitting and crochet is that there’s so many different yarns, needles/hooks, and gauges for every crafter which makes every piece look and actually be one of a kind!

Pro-tip for using The Chiaogoo Shorties set for socks/small circumference knitting: use the 2" needle in your left/non-dominant hand and the 3" needle in your right/dominant hand! The extra inch usually isn't enough to stretch out your knitting (use the 5" cord for socks), and it gives your right hand a little more to grip, which makes knitting more comfortable/ergonomic (at least for me). I love the Shorties sets and even bought a few longer length cords to use with them. I love the Chiaogoo cords because they are memory-free, unlike other cords like Lykke or Knitter's Pride, so I find them a lot easier to use for magic loop. I have a set of Lykke needles that I love for slippery yarn and easy/relaxing projects, and another pro tip: Knitter's Pride cords are a little more flexible, and they fit Lykke needles! Also love Clover bamboo for DPNs, as my stitches always seem to fall off metal DPNs. 😅

Because of you and your EXCELLENT teaching skills I learned how to knit socks for the first time! I used to use bamboo needles but they don’t work well with socks. The Chiagoo circulars are the BEST for sock knitting. My deepest thanks for all the effort you put into these videos.

I'm a big fan of wooden needles, because they feel warm in my hands, are grippy enough for slippery yarns while still being slippery enough for grippy yarns, and make a nice sound when they click together as I'm working!

I am an exclusive Chiaogoo knitter, I have only been knitting for about 9 months. Check out the Chiaogoo spin cable. They have your flexible nylon cord, I have recently added them to my stash. I have two sets of the red shorties, one of the blue, two full sets of the 4", and two of the 4" lace sets, and three 9" circulars size 1, 2.25mm I can use them like the addi flips, after the toes I just go to the one circular. However my favorite is still the magic loop. I have some DPN's however I don't use them except for the 4" Hiya Hiyas I use them for cable needles. Happy happy..😁

I have finally got a DellaQ hanging circular needle holder. It has slots to hold each different size that are labeled, which is wonderful, and it allows the needles to hang down fully unfurled, which really helps with the kink in the chords. So, if you hate the kink in the cord to find a solution that allows the needles to hang extended, so they "remember" how to be straight. As far as knitting with ChaioGoo for socks, you need to tie the ChaioGoo minis; the cables are not stiff at all. They are brilliant. I had tried knitting magic loop before I got them and was endlessly frustrated by it and now I love knitting socks, magic loop.

Got back into knitting during the onset of the pandemic. Treated myself to the ChiaoGoo set and have loved it to date, using these exclusively. I was never good at organizing my needles so truly enjoy the organized case. Small scissors, tin of markers in the zip pocket along with kit accessories and all I have to add is yarn to make anything I may want, from socks to sweaters.

I've only really used the ChaioGoo interchangeables, but I'm so happy with them that I can't imagine I'll try anything else anytime soon 😂 I had tried a pair of random circular needles first but got so extremely frustrated by the cord keeping that rolled up shape that the ChaioGoo promise of not having to deal with that was very alluring... I do find that the Mini cable is much more flexible than the Small one - I'll probably want to keep the Mini cable for magic loop even if I use the larger Small needles. I'm definitely getting the red shorties set at one point though, and I want a set of Karbonz in that super small size they have. My only real wish for ChiaoGoo is that they'd make little fabric sleeves for the Small interchangeables like the ones that come with the Mini and Shortie sets. I keep my Small set together with the Mini in the mesh pouch the Mini came in, it'd be so convenient to have that little extra bit of organization.

Chaiogoo are my all time favorites the cord has no memory so no coils and twists and I knit socks on the 9" circs. Tried magic loop but I get ladders that drive me insane. I am using for the first time Addi Rockets for the half and half shawl and I'm loving them so smooth to knit with. I also have tons of straight needles from way back but I mostly use circs now. It's amazing how our needles can make or break a project

I'm still rolling with my Clovers! I believe I have one knitters pride pair of DPNs and a pair called Crystal Palace I believe..? Haven't tried them yet. Looking into getting a nice, interchangeable set that I think would be worth the investment - thanks for this info! Also, MOST DEFINITELY needing a little help on magic loop - I do enjoy DPN life but have recently picked up my speed and think magic loop would really help me out. It goes hand in hand with getting an interchangeable set so as to not keep buying a different DPN set for every project!

This was a fun episode! Most of the time I use Chiagoo or Addi rockets. I recently discovered addi easy knits for socks. They are about 10" circulars, with 1 needle tip longer - great to grip with my right hand. and the old Susan Bates metal dpn 000 - 0 set at Joanns are a must have. I liked the Lykke but then discovered addi olive wood. What a dream! Tip is pointy enough and the wood feels fabulous. I like wood for knitting over US8. The larger size metal needles are hollow and make too much noise.

I really like Addi Turbos. Smooth metal needles and just right flexible cord. I don’t like sharper tips than that because I poke my fingers sometimes. Most recently I poked a sharp through the skin in the bend of my index finger. Took forever to heal. Loved the accordion file storage idea! Perfect!

Back in the days when I was young and clueless (... one years ago) I avoided wood and bamboo needles, because my first impression with my grandma's twenty year old needles was not the best. Since then, I've got some Lana Grossa wood needles (as far as I know, the manufacturer is Knitter's Pride), and I realized, I like those needles very much! Sneak knitting level 100. Still, my all time favourite brand is Addi. I don' like to have lot of needles, so up until they're functioning, I'll use my Lana Grossa set, then I'll get an Addi set. My sister has one, I've tried it already, they were very nice. Almost all my fix needles are Addi and I have no regrets. I'm proud member of the I don't use DPNs unless absolutely necessary-club. Short circulars are my way to go.

I seem to be the rare one commenting here who loves my Addis (Rockets, primarily) That said, I invested in the Chiao Goo interchangeable set and I really like them too, but find they often get loose and I need to stop and tighten more- and admittedly, I am guilty of sometimes forgoing the use of the tightening pin (My Bad!) I do like dpns and my absolute favorite are Pony Pearls for their flexibility. plastic or similar material covering over a steel needle - great for sock knitting. My new favorite is a set of Zing dpns, wonderfully color coded and marked for sizes. I think the biggest problem is the lack of readable size labeling on most if not all circular needles. Lastly, I keep several 7" straights in my tool bag and I just love these beautiful rosewood and other wood needles! Great subject!

I LOVE my chiaogoo interchangeables. And, I adore their red memory-free cables. I also have and use the Chiaogoo bamboo interchangeables. But the bamboo Chiaogoos have a different cable which I am not a fan of. However, from your description of what you like in a cable, I think you would like it very much. The cables can be used with the metal Chiaogoo interchangeables. The cable is very flexible and the join has a mechanism that makes it spin, purportedly to prevent it from kinking. Be that said, dipping those plastic and nylon cables in boiling water is a legitimate way to get them to relax. Addi (my least favorite needles) even tells you to do that to their annoying, miserable, mercilessly over memory-ized cables. Oh, and one last thing. I love your YT videos. Watch every one.

So this is funny, but my Grandma is currently visiting and she saw I was starting a Vertices Unite and she wanted to knit it too but didn’t bring any yarn or needles so we went to Michael’s and she picked up a pair of Pryms, I remember Arne and Carlos talking about them and I was so surprised to find them there! Anyways she really likes them, I picked up a pair too to try, the cord does remind me of Chiagoos though, but they’re plastic so they seem to have the same effect that wood does, a little grip but not too much.

as a super budget option, I started with a Leeyien interchangeable set for I think $17 as my first needles. They're plastic with thick plastic cables. Not great for magic loop but they are simultaneously quite grippy and yet pretty smooth at the joins. I doubt they will stand up long-term but they're proving to be very serviceable learning needles for me right now while I figure out what I'm doing and what I like or want. They'd be good needles to gift a kid who shows interest or to take on a trip so you can leave your nice set safe at home. I've already ordered myself just one Chiagoo circular with a long cable to try out for magic loop, and I'm excitedly waiting for the mail. I ADORE my Chiagoo Tunisian crochet hooks, so I'm hopeful. It'll probably be a while before I graduate to the pricier sets. I don't think I'd like hiding my needles away in a file folder where I can't see them all at once when I'm looking for something. I keep my (million and one) long tunisian crochet hooks and all my traditional long straight needles in colored glass flower vases which I think look quite cute.

It's so true, there's no one needle for everything! I'm a Hiya Hiya lover and almost always use them regardless of project/yarn. But those Chiaogoo shorties set - how did I not know they existed? Don't enjoy magic loop [please do a video - maybe I'm doing it wrong] and although I love DPN's they always leave the telltale tension lines so as I knit more sweaters I've been picking up HiyaHiya 9" as I need them for sleeves, but I'm thinking the set is a better way to go. Thanks for the info Kirsten - always enjoy catching up 😊

Love your storage method! I have a few fabric needle organizers that I use. I am such a tight knitter that pointy needles are great for me. I LOVE Signature needles and have the circular set😄 I also have some Signature DPNs for socks (US 1, both US 2, and US 3). I also have a complete set of the Chiagoo small and large needles (love them too). I used to love KnitPicks needles until I had a needle tip break off more than once (3 times) in the middle of my project. KnitPicks customer service is AWESOME and they replaced the tips each time, but after the 3rd time it happened, I was so frustrated that I stopped using their circular needles altogether and gave my set away. I still love their DPNs. I am planning on getting the Lykke set for my wooden needles😁

My favorite needles are Signature Arts and Chiaogoo. I use Chiaogoo almost all the time because the price of the Sig. Arts is so high. Chiaogoo needles are perfect and I like the fixed needles. I am pretty new to knitting(I taught myself off of KZbin), my first set of knitting needles where these wood needles off Amazon the whole set cost me #20.00! Then I was told about the world of Chia Goo, first I bought a #8 fixed circular, then #7,and then #9(which I do use those for knitting hats). Then my son bought me the interchangeable Chia Goo full set for Hanukkah three years ago. I have never knit with Hya Hya's. It sounds like I would enjoy them. Please, please, please do a video on magic loop! It just will not go in my brain! I was a crocheter for 50+ years so even though I just knit my first sweater,(I am saying my first because it fits me, the other ones did not). I get nervous for some reason, but I love knitting uses so much less yarn. I only use my crochet hooks now to pick up a dropped stitch! Sorry for the long response. The sweater I knit is the Easy Eyelet Yoke Sweater by Knitatude. I kept trying to knit the Flax sweater by Tin Can Knits but I got puff sleeves!?! They puff up at the shoulder! Love this pattern was so easy for me to understand. Thank you again sorry it's so long.

I got a free pair of 16 in shorter tip Addi Rocket Squared and found them very nice for sleeves. I really should give the Hiya Hiya needles a try and I really want to try the sets of ChiaoGoo shortie with the small tips but I haven’t been to an actual yarn shop in years (none nearby!) Most of my collection of circular needles are the clover takumi because they're cheap and accessible where I'm at but my boyfriend bought me one pair of the knitter's pride dreamz and I have really enjoyed them because they're a bit slippier than the takumis for a more toothsome yarn but they still have a bit more grip than metal would. I cannot believe how my favorite types of knitting needles have changed since I started knitting over 21 years ago. When I first started it was clover for sure. They are kind of my disposable needles. Have lots, only reach for them if my favorite needles are not available. Was knitting and purchasing mostly metal needles for many years had an awesome Chiago set because I loved the cables. This all changed recently when I found that I have become such a loose knitter and my hands are now old and achy so I am using Lykke- which is my favorite. Knitpicks and knitters pride but all wood. I have WIPS that I have frogged off of metal needles. I am still trying to figure out how to organize. I did purchase the NAMASTe knitters portfolio for my fixed circulars but I have too many needles so it’s not working. I think it’s time to declutter my needle stash. I am currently taking a sock class using addi flexiflips and I really hate them for socks, metal 0 needles☹️. There was a post on IG about using specific plastic pencil boxes for fixed circulars. I might try it. Thanks as always for your amazing videos. You are pretty awesome friend!!!

Hands down my absolute fav needles are Addi Rocket squared. I’m in the process of switching all of my needle sizes to Addis. I did buy the Addi rocket squared interchangeables and they are ok for most yarns but do snag a little when using certain yarns. I also bought the shorter sizes by mistake - I prefer the 5”. I will use them when traveling but the Addi rocket squared fixed lengths are what I turn to every project.

My desert island needle set is KnitPicks laminated birch interchangeable set. I’m definitely a KnitPicks laminated birch gal. I have them in straights, interchangeables, interchangeable shorties, DPNs, fixed circular and even crochet hooks. I love their smoothness, points and feel in my hands. I can knit for hours with them without any discomfort. They are also so pretty 😍 As I knit primarily with interchangeables, the bee in my bonnet is the cheaper cords that don’t have smooth joins 🐝 . As I store my WIPs on the cords or use them to put stitches on hold, I need to have a good selection of cords and the cheaper ones from my LYS are just not as smooth at the join as the KnitPicks. But I am lucky they stock cords that fit my interchangeables.

I got the clover interchangeable on sale as my first real set as opposed to my grandmas straight needles, and I love them. My only complaint is the join occasionally unscrews but I can live with that. One day I'll get a set of metal interchangeable so when I work with toothy yarns I don't have toothy yarn on wood needles.

You have a great selection of needles. I also have Lykke set but did not like the cord. When Knitter's Pride released Mindful Collection, I purchased the cords only as they are similar to Chiaogoo metal cords and KP cords fit Lykke needles. I am a big fan of Chiaogoo and have both CG metal and bamboo, but my favorite *bamboo* needle set is SeeKnit Kinki Amibari. The needles are amazing! Beautiful cord, wonderfully smooth needles (smoother than Lykke and CG) and the tips are perfect. I find CG bamboo tips a little too sharp (especially when new) and Lykke a bit dull. Seeknit needles are absolutely perfect. They have an etsy shop and shipping from Japan is crazy fast - 3 days. I have both Shorties sets and it took some getting used to. What made them so much easier to use was using the 2" needle on the left and the 3" needle as the working needle. Major improvement. Since CG needles are interchangeable, I use them for sleeves as well and maybe start with one 3" and 4"(I have both 4 and 5" needles). As the circumference gets smaller, I just switch out the needles/cord. Another bonus to having the shorties set is you can create flexible DPNs. As you already have 2 sets of the same size in the kit, you just need to buy 1 2.5" set and the 2" cords. I was going to get Hiya Hiya Sharps , but I hear so many crazy stories about the needles being way too sharp

I started using knit pro nova and purchased a full interchangeable set, still love the needles on these, the cords kink up a bit but don’t truly bother me. The join does occasionally come undone, but I invested in a set of Chiagoo rubber grips and use them on the knit pro, this definitely makes a difference to the tightness of the join. I have since started investing in chiagoo needles and bought a small interchangeable set, 5mm is the largest currently using these needles for my shawlography, and I really enjoy using them. And talking about magic loop I love this method, and I have not yet purchased any DPN’s or 9 inch circulars, magic loop is my go to for all small circumference knitting; but then I have not done any colourwork so i might change my tune if I get into colourwork, never say never.

If the red Chiaogoo cables aren't for you, you might want to try the blue cables. I think the blue cable only fit the smaller size Chiaogoo needles. Also, you would probably love the Chiaogoo spin cables. I love the red cables. The blue are my favorite, and I wish they fit all the Chiaogoo interchangeable knitting needles. I tried the spin cables and they reminded me of the purple Knit Picks cables.

Thank you! I do not feel so bad about my needle collection. When I started knitting, I was given used Boyd needles, for my first project, a sweater. Then, I discovered Addi, this was in the 1980s and they were $8. I stopped knitting, after completing 3 sweaters. When I got back into knitting 2009, I was introduced to Knit Picks. I bought pretty much all the sizes and sets. I also dabbled with Crystal Palace bamboo and ChiaoGoo bamboo, not a favorite. Back to Addi, I went, until ChiaoGoo came out with the red cable needles, I have mostly interchangeable sets. I use the mini cable with the mini-small adapter for my socks, which gives me the right flex and is easily packed in a bag. I am also a fan of Hiya Hiya Sharps for my sock and cowl knitting. For my sweater knitting, I use the interchangeable Addi Clicks. I am also a fan of Flexi-Flips and Addi Rocket[2]. The Knit Pick have since been passed on to my knitting friend.

Absolutely love chiaogoo, they are my go-to for pretty much everything. I didn’t think I liked shorties until I tried my mum’s chiaogoo set for some colourwork sleeves and they are fab - and on my Christmas wish list now! The variety of tip and cable lengths are perfect for adapting needle sizes to just what you need at any given point. I do like hiyahiyas but the sharps are just too sharp for me - I can use them in bigger needle sizes but up to about 4.5mm, the tips are too stabby. If I’m using slippery yarn then I usually reach for lykke - I’m a massive fan of the chiaogoo cables so I guess that’s why I like lykke too!

If you use 2 circulars (us000,00,0,1,1.5,or US2) 1/2 stitches on each its easier than magic loop imo. No pulling, no pushing, i put heel on 1 and instep on the other- try it.

My favorite is the Knit Picks wooden needles interchangeable. I love the way they feel in my hand and they are really smooth and fast. I tend to bunch my stitches up and the end of the needle and they sometimes fall off with the metal needles. For smaller needles I like the Karbonz, I haven't had a problem with the yarn snagging on the joings.

Love the folder idea for storing your needles! I am a beginning knitter and decided to knit a huge blanket for one of my first projects that has all kinds of different stitches in it. It is 402 stitches on the needles with worsted weight yarn! I figure when I'm finally done with it in a year I'd ought to know how to knit! LOL I bought a clover takumi set of needles first and I love them but my hands sweat in warm weather making it hard to move the stitches along on my needles although I have a feeling they will be wonderful for some slippery silk lace yarn I have bought on sale to use up someday! The next ones I tried are Addi turbo. love how the stitches slide on the metal and cord is nice and strong but not quite pointy enough for me. So I bought some ChiaoGoo new lace ones and they are what I really like because of the really pointy ends

My favorite is the chiaogoo red lace twist mini sizes 000-3 for my socks and lace projects and the hiyahiya sharps for very thing else. I started with Boye aluminum interchangeables which were great until I started knitting in the round, and larger items. I wish they had longer and softer chords. Tulip bamboos were next and best for slippery things; they spun so no twisted or loosening.

I love the ChiaoGoo needles to knit 2@aTime Socks. I have 0, 1’s, and 2’s, straight and lace needles. The cord is flexible and easy to work with. I also love my Ginger Knitter’s Pride. Size 7 and 8 are the most used. I have DPN and interchangeable Karbonz needles. They were my favorite for years. The 7’s and 8’s wore thin from use within the first year. The company replaced them one time, but let me know they would not replace them again! 😕 needless to say I use them only when my other needles are in use on another project. I own one pair of Cubic needles, but they bothered/hurt my fingers. I am slowly acquiring the FlexiFlips. I buy another size as I need them. I have 4 sizes right now.

I started out with hiya hiya sharps then converted to chiaogoo. I have the red lace 2-8 set, both of the short twisties sets, and am waiting for the 5 inch sock interchangeable set. Nothing beats the chiaogoo cables. I tend to knit socks with a US 00 or US 0, I wear through socks too quickly without having a dense gauge.

I'm still quite the beginner and I really enjoy the first set of KnitPro of interchangeable metal needles I got. They're very affordable and their cables are compatible with Katia needles which I have some because for a while it was the only brand I could find for short needles. My favorites are Addi Rocket Squared. They feel so good in my hands. But they are expensive, so I've settled on the Knitter's Pride Nova Platina Cubics interchangeable and DPNs. For wooden needles I use Knit Picks Foursquares. The Foursquares feel so much nicer than the Knitter's Pride wooden cubics. The edges of the square are more rounded. Since you like the Knitter's Pride cubics, I think you would really like Foursquares, unfortunately, they no longer offer Foursquare DPNS.

Very informative, thanks! I typically use Lyyke and Knit Picks interchangeables. You can use Knit Picks cords with Lyyke needles, by the way. If I buy a single needle for a project, I’ll try to get Lyyke. However, my lys doesn’t carry them, so my next choice is Addi Skacel Rocket Squared. I love the way they feel in my hands. I don’t have an issue with any of the cords or joins.

I have large hands, but the same size issues. I rarely go over size 7 US, and I find 9 inch needle hard to use. For me, the join is probably the most important part of a circular knitting needle. I have Knit Picks wooden interchangeable needles, and they are fantastic. Also, DPNS above size 3 can be super cheap bamboo and working very well.

My favorites are Hiya Hiya Sharps & Chiaogoo, with a slight preference for Chiaogoo. I recently got a set of the Knit Picks Prism Aluminum interchangeables & I have really been so impressed with them! They're noticeably more pointy than my old set of KP nickels, but not so pointy I impale myself. (Also, the colors are fun and remind me of the Boye needles I used for years) I really need to wrangle my needle stash, I think I'll be copying your idea! Addi Rockets always seem a little sticky to me, so I'll use them if I have slippery yarn. Agree on the Karbonz! I ended up with 2 pairs & have snagging issues with both.

Love hearing about everyone's favorite needles and why. I am a fan of Chiaogoo Mini interchangeable set (you can get it in a 4" or 5" needle) The interchangeable cords on these are really nice if you compare with the standard circulars, but also are no kinky, no curl, just thinner . I of course am a magic loop person, so that also lead to me wanting the mini set vs shorties (found someone in a facebook group to donate all the nine inch circulars i had , the right person for the right set of needles) I have never tried the shorties , but thinking that might not be my jam, Loved this episode :)

I love the Hiya Hiya and Chiagoo. The red lace cord is part of the reason I truly run to them first. My Hiya Hiya I tend to use more for socks. I have not ordered a set yet but it’s on my wishlist. I have large hands so I don’t like the shorter needles. I bought one of those bent chiagoo and don’t like it. It was on clearance for $2 so no real loss. Karbonz are amazing for socks but I only used the dpns. I love a sharper point so stay clear of a lot of needles for many reasons now😂 but I think knit picks are a good option.

When I started knitting I didn't have the cash to get a really good set of needles. I ended up with a cheap metal tip Boye set that would never stay tightened and ended up mushrooming over they join because of how much I had to over tighten. I saved up and bought a set of clover which I love. I'd love to try Chiagoo or Hiya Hiya at some point. I'd love a tutorial for magic loop. I've tried it, but never seem to get it quite right. Love Chiaogoo red lace. I accidentally ordered one of the bent tip circulars and threw a fit! I personally don’t like bent tips. I own a Chiaogoo small red lace set, a set of Chiaogoo dpns, and the small shorties set. I don’t knit with anything above a US 5. I find larger needles hurt my hands as well!
