For anyone wondering why vaccinator doesn't seem to stop phlog crits: Flamethrowers debuff healing and bubbles by 20% (or 30%, can't remember), so with crits you only block (with a fire bubble) around 50% of normal damage and 70-80% of the crit damage. So you get melted in 2 and something seconds (with bubble) instead of 1 and something (if you don't have bubble). The debuff does not apply to flares, just flamethrowers and some taunts. It only affects medi gun healing (amputator included), not the crossbow.

The entire Scorch Shot vs Detonator argument revolves around how easy it is to spam El Scorcho due to it's guaranteed splash damage and having to actually time your explosions with Detonator. Also, Scorch Shot has knockback and we all know people hate that.

@@ryanphillips4123 the phlog is like diamondback, if you see, diamondback rewards spy for sapping and backstabbing, something a spy should do alredy in exchange for crits. phlog is the same thing, rewarding pyro with flame damage, from his flame thrower or flare gun, or even melee (nobody uses it but it is sharpened volcano fragment), something a pyro should be doing anyways in exchange for crits. however, spy uses it as a backup, but spy is mostly dependent on crits, by backstabbing, headshotting, or using the diamondback, he needs skill to headshot and backstab most people but, the phlog... you just w+m1, he had another utility that was the airblast, that could help his team by: extinguishing, throwing away stickies on walls and other projectiles, it is insane that they are throwing this all away, to get crits and obliterate unfairly the enemy team by just pressing 2 buttons, the issue is not the w+m1 because i know that's the only way that a pyro can attack since his close range, but he can also spam cockshot to fill the crits. conclusion, since Jungle Inferno, pyro is just a crutch with phlog

I love the Scorch Shot's knockback, getting direct hits with it is a dopamine farm...but if you're going for direct hits anyway, the basic Flare Gun is even more rewarding with that sweet, sweet 90 damage crit. Nailing a Scout with a crit and just deleting him is a dopamine FACTORY

One of my favorite things to do is pair Phlog Pyro with a Conch Soldier. Few things in TF2 are more terrifying than a crit-boosted Pyro sprinting across the map, incinerating everything in his path, and healing a ton in the process.

If I've said it once I've said it a thousand times. The phlog isn't OP, it's the pocket medic that's OP and it always has been. The game is kinda designed around Medic being OP though. As for the scorch shot, it's not as OP as people make it out to be but I feel like it shouldn't deal minicrits on the bouncing flare. Then it wouldn't one-shot light classes and still fill a niche as the long-range airblast.

Sorry for Necro post, but IMO the problem is it is generally more effective than the base flare and the detonator at both their jobs while also being easier to use. Then you factor in the fact that a direct oneshots light classes at any range, and you see the problem.

your honour, the phlog's extra vulnerability without airblast balances it. the scorch shit is what makes the phlog take 0 skill. the phlog needs some skill to build mmph and survive. the scorch shit ruins that balance by getting rid of the need for skill. the other flareguns need aim or have reduced damage. the scorch shit makes getting mmph far too easy and far too unbalanced by having AoE damage and high damage flares, plus being able to flare jump.

the reason i use scorch shot is because it pushes and juggles people. i just can't NOT do that. i value that feature over the damage, the flames, the aoe, everything. just pushing. it's so satisfying. and helps me control them better along with airblast, which i also can't do without so i don't use phlog ever.

This video actually gave me an idea for a Phlogistinator nerf that would actually make sense. • 50%-90% less healing from Medics. Its the same downside as the Escape Plan, but it would make sense, right? I'm not certain about the exact numbers, but it prevents pyros from being W+M1 crit killing machines, on top of being near unkillable from medics.

Ikr. Phlog pyro is like a stock pyro except twice as vulnerable. Good soldier or demo will make his life an absolute hell. Soldier doesn't have to worry about his rockets being sent back, and demo who knows how to use stickies properly is practically impossible to kill without someone assisting the pyro, or pyro ambushing the demo (even then he's most likely gonna blow you both up to kingdom come). Even with pocket medic the pyro shouldn't be that hard to kill. Yes, phlog crits and stock uber will absolutely destroy you, but that's just the consequences for not getting rid of the golden pair sooner. It's so awkward to play phlog pyro too when you have a med with you. You're burning? If I had a manmelter then it would've been easier, but for now, umm, hang on a little. Getting spammed to the oblivion? Well, it's a good time to practice your neo dodging skills, buddy. Someone's harassing you in melee range? I'm gonna burn his face o... Oh, down he goes to a random crit...
