Side by side comparison of the vortex razor gen 3 1-10 LPVO with a NF ATACR 4-16 out to 1100 yards. Modern LPVO optics are taking the shooting industry by storm with regards to close to medium range performance. In this video we compare the vortex razor 1-10 and a nightforce ATACR in a long range shooting application on top of my FN Scar 20S in 6.5 creedmoor. This rifle is easily capable of sub moa performance and has proven hits beyond 1000 yds, this comparison will truly test the long range capabilities of the vortex razor LPVO!
Big shout out to @nutshell on Instagram for such an awesome logo for the channel!

Another awesome video. I had a Razor 1-10, and after about a year with it, I felt like it was the best 1-6 LPVO on the market, the eye box was just a bit too tight for me on 10x to fully enjoy. Ended up selling it and buying another Gen 2 E 1-6 and an offset T2 and still came out ahead.

Interesting, I don't have any experience with the 1-6 to be able to compare this 1-10 to. I'll be able to keep this 1-10 for a while longer so I'll play closer attention to the eye box as I'm shooting it. As always, thank you for watching!

I started with a PST 1-6x. It is very good. I have thought about 1-8x or 1-10x and determined both to have shortcomings no parallax adjustment, so Vortex PST 2-10x FFP/MOA. It is low power setting at 2x.

I take it the tacticam is what we're looking at through your scope? Yeah, I like it! Super awesome. I'm always amazed at the end point after recoil. But it's awesome and gives new shooters like myself, a great perspective of hold over. Also what you're talking about, the detail in various scopes. I can see how extra detail would be nice but others might just think it's clutter. Very nice video. Thanks. BTW, I'm building a DMR, and you're getting me psyched. I might have to go to a friend's farm in Eastern WA to try it out. Your videos are really helping out a lot and great info. Fun stuff I tell ya. 👍

This is one of the best videos on KZbin covering long distance shooting, holdover and scope magnification comparisons... I'm saving up for my next AR-15 SPR build scope, and this video has convinced me to chose an MPVO over a 4x18... I'm going to buy the new Leupold VX-5HD 2X10X30 when it comes out... My AR-15 SPR build has an 18" match grade heavy fluted faxon .223 wylde with a LaRue MBT2 trigger. Superlative arms adjustable gas block. And, Q Cherry bomb and Whistle Tip (can't have silencers here in Hawaii). Great video... where is that anyway? Absolutely beautiful....I have 3 Vortex scopes and 1 Leupold... I'm super impressed with my Leupold glass and the overall fit & finish.. I was tempted to save for this Vortex razor, but I'm hoping the Leupold I'm gonna buy will edge it out as the superior scope... we'll soon see

Ah man appreciate the compliments! Tell you what, I’m also super interested in the new 2-10 leupold, thinking I’ll want to pair it with a 45 red dot to have a complete close to medium distance setup. My expectation is the new 2-10 should have an edge on 1-8s or 1-10s in higher magnification/ longer distance work for several reasons. If I pick one up, 100% I’ll make some content with it. I’m located in eastern WA state, as you can see the rolling wheat fields of this area are a long range paradise!

I actually owned a NF ATACR 1-8 for a short bit but sold it because I didn't like the reticle. Since then NF has released a newer reticle that looks better so I'd like to give one a try again. For sure if I run across one I'll do a video. I think something like the ATACR 1-8 or the Razor 1-10 would be perfect on an MWS, as you can see an LPVO is very capable at distance on practical type targets and we all know they are very functional at close range as well. Awesome vid! One thing we've noticed with LPVO's is when you start shooting camouflaged/concealed targets the LPVO falls way short. The 1-10 razor is the only LPVO that was able to find and engage these types of targets and it struggles. The shooter needed help. But even cheap optics like the PA 3-18 was able to find and engage everything. I'm doing a vid on this soon.

@@MountainsMulletsMerica yeah man. We do a lot of shooting where we camouflage the targets. We also will place random items out in the field that the team will have to locate within a certain time period before engaging targets. LPVO's have a hard time with that as well. Even within 250yds.

I notice the same in twilight on a plate rack at 300yds. The 30mm objective just can't give enough light for good contrast once it's flat enough and the 3" plate disappears against the backdrop hillside. Even a cheap PA SLX 4-14 gives a better contrast, light-wise. Better mid/high power variables are even more drastic. I haven't looked through a Razor though, nor anything as good or better.

Awesome video. Have been really torn on an optic choice for my 20" 308 bolt action. Intended application is 1-300 as typical hunting range, and rarely beyond 500. I thought i might appreciate the low power and big field of view for those smaller ranges, but was worried about limiting capability on the odd chance i go longer. No interest in PRS, just hitting gongs. Looks like the 1-10 may be ideal! Thanks!

Good video again I was wondering if the tactacam hinders in anyway as far as comfort and eye relief did you have to move your scope forward also if you use on a rifle like 300wm and up if the recoil would make it more likely to hit your eye
@MountainsMulletsMerica
@MountainsMulletsMerica Жыл бұрын
Yes, the tactacam is more annoying than I thought it would be..... I don't push my scopes forward but just extend my stocks out out a click or 2. On my 300prc and 338lm the tactacam mount will bump my head under recoil if I'm not paying attention. Smaller calibers like 6.5 and 308 it's not an issue. Also it uses tinted glass so it dims the view when looking through your optic, no issue during mid day sunlight but if using near dusk it becomes challenging. It's also a bit finnicky to get mounted and setup on your scope. All that said, if you understand what you're getting into with the tactacam it's an awesome tool that provides epic footage.

@MountainsMulletsMerica

Oh man, my opinion both of those are great optics and would fit very well on your MR308. For me it comes down to how far do you want to shoot the rifle and at what size targets? If most of your shooting will be within 600-800 yds at generous sized targets then the 1-10 would be a great fit. This would be more along the lines of a DMR. If you're looking to push distance out to 1000ish yds or you're looking to shoot smaller targets in more of a precision rifle role then I would go with the 4-16. Tough question but the good news is buying used you'll be able to easily get your money out of either optic if you buy one and decide you want to swap to the other at some point down the road. Thanks for watching!

To use the tree you essentially will need to calculate your drop at any given yard line and hold for that elevation? I see you adjusted the dial for the work at 1100. It would not be an option to zero it at a know battle zero, then dial for accurate hits beyond say 300? Sorry for a basic question. my experience has been with red dots or the razors on distance bolt guns. Interested in getting an LPVO for a new upper I have in 556.

Pushing out amazing content brother! For an lpvo setup on a general purpose/recce build, do you prefer the traditional 1.54” height, or do you favor a 1.70” from a company like badger ordnance or even 1.93”? All of the heights would include a red dot attached in the offset position or 12 o’clock.

Historically, I've always set my rifles/ carbines up with 1.5"ish mounts regardless of the role. That said, I'm not running any kind of nods yet, so I'm not factoring in NV at this time. That said however, I wouldn't mind going to a 1.7ish mount particularly on this scar due to the shape of the stock. With the 1.5 mount, I really feel like the stock is pushing my head away when I'm looking through the optic, thinking a higher mount might help with that a bit.

Note that the "mid" (1.5" range) is ideal for most NV clip on optics also.

Great video. I think people get hung up on magnification The first time I shot a mile with my 308 it was on a 12 inch plate and I only had my scope on 10X I’ve shot up to 2500 yards on 10X personally I don’t think you need over 15X to shoot 2 miles but some people think you’re 35-40X to shoot 100 yards To each their own but that scope has 120 minutes of elevation and 10 X so if you put that on a 60 MOA base and put it on a big 300 RUM or 300 win mag you could very easily take it out to2500 yards
@MountainsMulletsMerica
@MountainsMulletsMerica 2 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Target size certainly plays a role in things but typically I find myself using less magnification than other for long range shooting. I prefer the wider field of view. I'm hoping to make a video soon attempting my furthest shots yet... I suspect I'll be in that 20-25X range shooting well over 2k yards but time will tell. Thanks for watching!

Your work and presentation is most impressive! For my 11.5 that travels w me almost everywhere, I’m considering a two optic system (QD mounts) in the bag it rides in w spare ammo and support gear. The primary optic is an EoTech EXPS3, and I’m not one for magnifiers, offset red dots etc. With that, I’m thinking of having such LPVO dialed in for my IMI 77s while my EoTech is zeroed with the phenomenal close-range 556SBCT3. I saw your video making hits at 686 yds w an 11.5. Very nice. The energy is just shy of a 9mm at the muzzle. Back on topic, lol, I’m not likely to shoot past 300 y/m, but having my 11.5 capable to hit at 500 is nice, especially when I visit places I’m able to shoot that far.
@MountainsMulletsMerica
@MountainsMulletsMerica Жыл бұрын
I’m on board with your line of thinking! With nice return to zero mounts youll have no problem with 2 optics setup for your rifle. If you end up in areas where 500 yd shots are possible you’ll want that LPVO for sure. While a short barrel isn’t optimal for terminal performance at distance, an impact with a short barrel is better than a miss with a bigger caliber! Thanks for watching and stay tuned for more content like this!

Great video as always. I have a couple of the Razor HD Gen III 1-10's with the mil reticle and I am a big fan of them. I use one on my 8" 8.6 Blackout LR308 and one on my 12.5" 308 LR308. It really lends itself nicely to a smaller carbine that can still make accurate shots at longer range with decent energy on target. I have shot them both out to steel at 765 yards and it is excellent. The parallax can make some shots difficult, but the utility of the scope is amazing. One major complaint that I hope they rectify in a later revision is the lack of large sight posts at 1x. In my opinion, you have to use it with the illumination turned on in a red dot fashion because the reticle is just too difficult to see and use quickly. The fact that the illumination is nuclear bright makes up for this, but it is definitely going to burn through the batteries. If you are interested, my friend just became a distributor for the TriggerCam, which I think works a lot better than the Tactacam. I was pretty unhappy with the Tactacam and it just cannot stay in one place under recoil. He is listed on the Triggercam site under Redials LLC. It is supposed to say Redilast haha.

Totally agree with your comments here! An LPVO is great for a rifle that you’re going to primarily shoot at closer range targets but you might want the ability to push out to distance occasionally. The extra mag is really nice for holds and target ID. Can’t say I’ve had any troubles with the reticle at 1x, like you say I just turn the brightness up and run it like a red dot and so far that’s worked well for me. For sure I’ll check out a triggercam with your buddy. The tactacam is cool and accomplishes what I want but it’s a pain to setup and I’ve had to send mine in 2x for warranty repair. While functional I’m not impressed and I’ve been wondering if the triggercam would be a better fit for what I’m trying to do. Appreciate the tip!

The Nightforce ATACR is in a spuhr SP4016 mount and the vortex 1-10 is in a badger ordnance condition one mount. I own several spuhrs and I've had great luck with them. The condition one is not mine, it came with the scope and initial impressions are it's a really nice mount as well. I don't think either would be a bad choice, only downside of the spuhr is it's rather bulky and heavy.
