Just bought a Ruger Precision Rifle, having been a small bore competitor for years decided to start getting into long range. Sadly couldn't afford the amazing AMG, so got the diamondback tactical. Noticed on first range and sighting the my zero rings were loose, called Vortex and it was back in my hands fixed in under a week. Say what you want about the amount of defects with customer service like theirs you can't beat these Optics. Glad to hear they are making the AMG's in the USA! Thanks Vortex!

@vortexoptics Why aren't the rest of Vortex products made in the same facility here in America? Is the Razor AMG the only line of products made in America?
@VortexOpticsUSA4 жыл бұрын
Truth be told we'd love to manufacture every single product right here, but that's just not realistic to do. Our products run the gamut from entry level to ultra high end (like the Razor AMG here, for instance). To make a scope like the Crossfire II, for example, which might go for around $150 right now, here in our facility would raise the price astronomically well beyond what anyone would be willing to spend on an entry level scope and well beyond what the competition is selling similar scopes for. There's an incredible amount of machinery, tooling and other equipment needed to make even just the Razor AMG talked about in this video and that's a really high end product at relatively low volumes to a more entry level scope. To do what would be necessary to do it all in house wouldn't be feasible, and just to wind up getting the same quality products for incredibly higher prices wouldn't be a smart move to make. Our Razor AMG is one of, if not "The", most American-made riflescope on the market right now and is done in-house. The Razor AMG UH-1 holographic sight is made in the USA with a reticle element from the UK. Our Razor HD Gen II long range riflescopes are made in Japan with some parts made and final-installed here in-house. Other optical products may also be made in Japan, Philippines, or China. The physical location a product is made should be far less of a concern than the company behind the product that actually does the development, engineering testing, inspection, handling, and service for the product. Any place is capable of making good products, just like any place is capable of making bad products - what matters is the specs, tolerances, procedures, and people responsible for making sure the product comes out exactly the way it's supposed to. There are nearly 300 full-time employees here at Vortex in Barneveld, WI whose job it is to make sure the entire customer experience - especially the product - is absolutely as excellent as it possibly can be.

Thought a lot of Vortex with their warranty, reputation and prices until I bought several scopes. My oldest son has a Razor HD Gen II scope top of the line. Had to go back as the crosshairs weren't true to the adjustment knobs. Next my youngest son has a Viper HST that had to go back as it wasn't tracking. I have a Crossfire II for a deer hunting rifle. Had the dealer install it professionally, while sighting it in noticed black specks on the lense. Turns out the internal paint or coating had come off and was resting on the glass. Sent it back to factory, was returned but the illuminated red dot was barely visible on the highest setting. Factory says that's normal. I have gotten rid of all my Vortex scopes but the Crossfire II as it was an advertised special and really cheap. My boys and I are now into long range shooting and currently spending money on quality optics. For daily shooters or shorter range weapons where top quality isn't required, I suggest Primary Arms where you will save money and get mid range quality scopes (with more features and variety) backed with a guarantee.

I was unaware that glass is ground and polished in the US now.. wondering how it compares to Japanese or German glass.. also wondering what parts in these optics are outsourced.. I’m not familiar with their HD models, but seems like everyone I know at the range that runs a razor keeps Vortex customer service in their phone.. have had several people tell me their optics spend more time in the mail than on their rifles.. common sense that the warranty is included in the price, but I have to wonder how much of the price is the warranty. Personally I feel that Vortex has gone from quality to quantity.. I’m still running a gen 1 Viper PST and wouldn’t trade it for a gen 2.. which brings me back to what’s outsourced. What parts are from China.
@VortexOpticsUSA4 жыл бұрын
On occasion we've had people who have repeat issues coming in for service, but if we see that happen, most of the time we're doing extensive testing on our own range with their scope to determine where the issue lies and in a large majority of cases, it's somewhere in the mounts or the rifle. Yes, we've had scopes that have had issues in the past that are manufacturer defect, but there's a lot of variables that go into the shooting equation, yet generally only one that gets pointed to as the main issue, which is the optic. Return rates for warranty products are generally at less than a percent of the optics that actually go out the door, ratio certainly hasn't increased since your PST Gen I. The amount of optics we've sold has continued to increase, so the same percent of a larger sample size will be a greater number, but it all needs to be put into perspective. As for where parts are sourced from, that's getting into pretty proprietary information - you probably won't see many people giving that information out to be honest. Some are going to come from China, yes, and some from other places. To think Vortex is the only one doing that would be very much incorrect - and that's across the board with all optics manufacturers. The company behind the product and its development, engineering, tolerances, testing, inspection, service, etc is what really matters and while we might not get a 100% every single time, there's about 300 people here in Barneveld WI that try and make it as close to perfect every time as we can.
@ParadigmUnkn0wn6 жыл бұрын
So with the similarity between some of the features of the VIper PST Gen II line and the Razor HD, are there any US made parts of the Viper line or is it basically a clone made in the Philippines? I have the Viper PST Gen II 1-6x with the MRAD reticle, and I love it. It does everything I need it to and to me it's a perfect balance of price and quality for a rifle that I only shoot to 500yds, and mostly in the 10-100yd range. It's the best scope I've ran in 3 gun competition and I wouldn't trade it for anything... other than a Razor.
@VortexOpticsUSA6 жыл бұрын
It's difficult to say exactly where all the parts that make up the scope are sourced from, but keep in mind we hold all of our optics to very high tolerances, so regardless of where it was manufactured, you can rest assured that it meets our standards before it gets in your hands.

Seeing as how your top of the line razor hd amg is the only product you make in the USA i think it would have been more pertinent to show your Chinese facility as a showing of how your products are made seeing as how those are what you sell the most of and consequently what most of your customers actually have. i know you never really said you produced all of your products in the USA but the theme of this video would lead the uninitiated to believe, unless they're paying attention, that this little factory you got going on here is where their product was made. I know speaking for myself at least id like to see that facility and how the actual super majority of your product line is made.

The recticle on the amg is made overseas. Why?
@VortexOpticsUSA6 жыл бұрын
Correct - the reticle in the AMG is made in Germany. The primary reason for this is volume - there are very few reticles actually made in the USA as it is a very intensive and actually hazardous/potentially dangerous process of manufacture. We have found a partner in Germany that has the volume we need, makes the quality we require and already had the infrastructure set up to make reticles. Hope this helps! - Jimmy H jchamilton@vortexoptics.com
@vt48886 жыл бұрын
Vortex Optics How is it "hazardous"? Vortex is not capable of this part at home at reasonable cost?
@VortexOpticsUSA6 жыл бұрын
Correct. Etching glass reticles is not simply a matter of putting lines on glass... Well - It is... But the process of putting those fine markings onto glass is potentially extremely hazardous. The chemicals used to properly etch the glass reticles and fill with the necessary compounds for illumination are extremely dangerous. Setting up a reticle making operation is nothing to be taken lightly, and if you really wanted to do it in a way that wouldn't potentially shut down your entire operation if anything ever went wrong, you'd probably want to build an entire new facility just for making reticles and it would require significant amounts of safety equipment. Can it be done? Certainly, but right now it's just not feasible as the costs would be very high (Which would be translated to our customers) and well-established reticle makers already exist elsewhere - like Germany where we are getting the reticles for the AMG.

I recently purchased a new pair of Vortex Razor 12x50 binoculars. Upon inspection of them I found they are made in China, I have to say the quality is great but it is sad that a $1000 pair of binoculars are imported from China!
@VortexOpticsUSA6 жыл бұрын
Hey Andrew - first off, thanks for choosing Vortex! Glad to hear that you are enjoying the quality of your Razors. We understand that there does seem to be a negative stigma around optics with a China badge, and can assure you that we wouldn't have our flagship binoculars made there without thoroughly vetting the quality of manufacture from the factory. Quality and value for the money - at any price point - are our top priority and when it comes to products made out-of-house (Which essentially all binoculars are, being that very few, if any at all, are made in the USA) We'll work closely with the factory that can produce the best product for the best value that our customers can afford and with enough volume that we can avoid backorder problems. In order to truly get the best product possible for you, we need to remove the country of origin and any preconceptions about those countries from the equation. After all - any factory in any country is perfectly capable of making an inferior or superior product! Hope this helps. Thank you again for using Vortex! Let us know if you have any questions at all - Jimmy H jchamilton@vortexoptics.com

pops wrench No, cast aluminum parts would not be as tightly controlled as CNC machined parts and typically require post cast machining, surface treatment and polishing anyway in an application like this. The "tree" you speak of is called a "gate". Cast components also require additional NDT inspection such as X-ray to check for internal cracking and imperfections.

You would think with the warranty they have and the so-called reputation they have that the 4-12x40 vortex rifle scope would have metal truitt caps instead of plastic truitt caps I think that is a disappointment it's just like the Nikon pro staff I don't see no difference except a name come on now you're supposed to be a good company don't make s*** at a garbage plastic make it out of the metal at least hold up to a reputation like Leupold or Burris or Swarovski or hell even Bushnell has metal truitt caps and not plastic come on now

He skirted around the question on glass. Bet some of it is Chinese. Would never buy a scope that had anything Chinese in it.

why does an employee carry a gun

Not a gun fee zone. It takes a good guy with a gun to stop a bad guy with a gun. Awesome!!

How can someone not know a rough # made per day? This vid is super cringe. I'd take it down.

Vortex used to make a pretty solid optic. Now, they're just junk. Constantly have to use their warranty, and you're the one that fronts the bill on that. No thanks. Go with Arken if you aren't looking for a specific reticle, or locking turrets. They can't be beat for the price. Vortex isn't what they used to be.
