I handload for hunting bolt action rifles up here in interior Alaska. I hand load for several reasons 1) improved accuracy, 2) availability and cost of ammo, for example a box of 20 premium hunting ammo up here in 300 H & H or 375 H & H cost over $75. 3) I enjoy the do-it-yourself satisfaction same as fly-tying, wood-working, etc.

Ha! You mentioned locking down your gun for the first reload firing. I remember the first round I reloaded for .270 Weatherby Mag. I did not tell any family members exactly where I was test firing some reloads. It must have taken me 10 minutes to fire that first round, worried about disfigurement or death! That has been years ago now and many, many rifle loads down the barrels, not to mention every big game animal harvested since has been with my reloads. It was intimidating at first.

LOL truly terrifying. Jimmy's first round out of the gun had a pretty funny flinch reaction. Nothing like making your own explosive and setting it off inside a tight pressurized chamber! ;)

Indeed! There is no better feeling (for a reloader) than the first animal you harvest with one of YOUR reloads! Good times!

The Vortex Extreme sounds like something that's right up my hunting partner and my alley! We love the physical stresses associated with hike-in hunting and love to hunt in altitude. This would be a good conditioning event! Didn't know about it...

You know, for having first admitting that you knew nothing about reloading, you sure were pretty critical of folks that actually do reload. I believe that falls into the category of irony. MaranathaL!

You could get caught up in the weeds if you try to dive into reloading for long range rifle competition right off the bat. Or you could have a little common sense and start with 45 ACP or 38 Special… just sayin’ “They probably know how the rifle’s set up…” Ya think? No 💩 they know how it’s set up. They know what their headspace is, exactly where the bullet is seated in relation to the lands on *that* rifle, etc. That’s part of the fun of hand loading! Good Lord - reloading data is not a “recipe book”. An overcooked loaf of bread is scorched and undercooked is just yucky. An over-charge can blow up your gun in your face. Read the damned thing and follow the procedures, staying within the suggested loads. P.S. the best source of load data is the actual bullet manufacturer. Second source is powder manufacturer. Then other printed data.

......and when a box of 9mm is $ 50.00a box ,maybe youll reconsider buying your ammo from the store.

(Imagine a picture of a set of reloading dies) Ladies, if your boyfriend doesn't know what these are (see imaginary photo), you don't have a boyfriend. You have a girlfriend.
