I rarely see dashcams reviews without any mistake (but maybe that zoom to show difference between QuadHD and QuadHD+, but that was okay to understand the idea), congratulations! You made it like you invented this camera, you understood very well its functions and features, you talked exactly what I expected to hear and this is very very rare! Also you positioned very well the dashcams for comparisons and this isn't not so simple, not many people can do this. Recording night video under clear sky and stars showed why the Sony chosen the Starvis name: just stars or moon are needed for a Starvis sensor to see something in the dark. Keep the good work! Maybe in a future video you will show us also the playback mode and the feature which is locking and unlocking videos.

I just tested it, with the last firmware V1.03(update 0924) of Feb. 2020. Incredible good dashcam, small so discreet, with the GPS option, CL filter, views are amazing. And all that for a moderate price ! If you need a single dashcam, don't waste your time in searches, buy this one !! I bought a Viofo micro-SD card, you must format it, the easiest is to do it directly on the camera (5 seconds). But no Wifi, some people can regret it, I don't. Jacques, from France.

@Vortex Radar At 0:20 in the video, you show mounting the camera to that dark stippling in the windshield. Doesn't that interfere with the lens view, or is the lens below that point? I have the same area in my windshield and figured that may be a bad place to mount the cam. Of course, there is a several inch wide band of dark tint across the entire windshield to deal with as well, which may impair the night vision of the lens.

Please compare the A129 Pro Duo vs the A119 V3. Also, which would be the best for recording: 3840x2160p @30fps or 2560x1440p @ 60fps ???
@jaromor88085 жыл бұрын
IMHO, 60fps makes no sense for this kind of use, it just significantly increases the filesizes. Even if you wanted to use the camera to record some amazing scenic route, there is near zero benefit to have such footage "super-smooth" (60fps)... For the typical dashcam this applies even more. 30fps is perfectly sufficient to capture any crazy shit ppl around you happen to do, including the bypassing registration plates if the resolution/light are good enough. (If the resolution/light sucks higher fps won't help.)

Anyway it's nice to see the FW support is still current 3 years after your review, and that the Sony Starvis is still best sensor in this price range.

@TravelswithYoly4 жыл бұрын
Actually, I have another question for you, since you seem to know more than most :-) I had installed a new dash cam this week with a detached GPS attached at the top of the windshield off to the side. It worked perfectly along with the dash cam but I noticed that my 6 year old Garmin RV GPS had difficulty finding satellites for the first time that we've owned it. Do you know of any GPS units interfering with another ?
@VortexRadar4 жыл бұрын
I don't think I've seen any instances of GPS antennas interfering with one another like that, especially if each one has a clear view of the sky. Newer tech can acquire faster, though every GPS antenna will take a while to get a lock if it hasn't been turned on in a while or if you've moved far to a new area while it downloads the almanac.

They should link to this video in their instructions haha. I was bummed that it didn't have wifi, but I suppose I'm leaning towards video quality/price as what I am looking for in a dashcam and this one look awesome at night. Do you have to download any software on your computer from Viofo to view it on you computer. I'm still not real sure how that part works. The A129 adds WiFi, but it's a step down in video quality since it records in 1080p instead of 1440p/1600p. Personally I'm a bigger fan of the new A129 Pro Duo which bumps the front camera up to 4K, giving you even better quality than the A119 v3. amzn.to/2IYgK80 If you want to save a little cash, go for the original A129 Duo. amzn.to/2la33XA

Have you tried installing one of these on your rear windshield for rear recording? Would you be able to use 2 hardwire kits with the same cutoff setting?

Yep. You'll even see the A129 Pro on my rear window when I show the interior shot of it recording me and my "passengers." You could run two dashcams hardwired with the same cutoff. You'd just need two hardwire cables and to keep in mind that you'll get less record time overall with the added drain of a second camera, but otherwise it will work fine.
