I'm afraid you should change the title, because this is not a Vostok. It is an homage of a Vostok, made by their former designer, it's a great watch, but it is not a Vostok.

As much as I love quick set date, once you throw in an NH35A movement it's no longer a Vostok. The watch with it's updates is wonderful. But the reason we all collect Vostok watches is because of their quirky characteristics, the rather industrial in-house movement and the fact that they are infinitely moderble. This is only a Vostok in name.
@marcelodietrich86742 жыл бұрын
With all due respect, I disagree. Nearly every 1 of your points is what keeps me away from buying a Vostok, and makes it difficult to justify their pricing. This 1 right here, just might be my first Vostok. It's an updating/upgrading of the brand.
@AnCar882 жыл бұрын
Exactly. This is the reason I passed on this model. Sure the Nh35 is more accurate and the date quickset is nice, but a Vostok without the wobbly crown and the amazing winding feel (most satisfying winding experience on any watch that I own) just feels off, like a microbrand that just picked up a Vostok case and put off the shelf components in it.

Nice watch ... but it's clearly not a Vostok. It's a homage to the 1967 released Vostok Amphibia. Everything that made Vostok special is missing! The special crown that protects stem and movement from impact, the gorgeous Plexi the deforms under pressure to make the watch watertight, the in house movement, the affordable price point. It's a nice looking watch. But for me ... it's not a real Vostok.

i hear alot of negativity in the comments. I have owned several Vostok Amphibias over the years, everytime its been something bothering me, acrylic getting deep scratch and can't buff it out, movement breaks down and can't source a new one. fog under the acrylic or you do the 8-3-8 datechange and it gets misaligned.... now we get a Buyalov designed Vostok (call it homage if you want) and it prevents all these things. I love it! I can finally own a Russian watch (yes it is Russian since its a Russian brand and designer) without worrying about all these things, sure some people like the annoying quirks, but they do not make the watch better. here is an improved Affordable Vostok for those who love the Russian design and tankiness but want to be relieved of those quirks. I can't wait for my Black dial to Arrive. and great review btw 👍

Good review and it's an interesting watch, but I do wonder whether it's made in China. Current geopolitics aside, pretty much the only USP that Vostok (OK, it's not a Vostok, but it's sold on Meranom) had was the quirky Soviet vibe. This seems more like somewhat curious microbrand run out of a Hong Kong flat. Having said that, post-covid Vostok themselves are producing some pretty cool watches.

Hi Blake, thankyou for the quick release of this review. I have to admit that Vostok is one of these brands which you either love or hate. I have tried to get excited with them but in the end they are too quirky for me. The bezel action for me is the biggest upgrade here but I'm not so much excited about a NH35 in a Russian watch. I would rather prefer an upgrade on their movement. Let's see what's coming next. Definitely keeping an eye on their next moves. PS Would have loved to see them finishing the Luna Dude project....

@@threehandhunter there's definitely a 'thing about Vostoks just as there is with other brands such as Seiko. As much as I absolutely LOVE the sandwich dial (& the color) as well as a ratcheted bezel, I don’t care much for the upgrades…ie: NH35 movement, absence of the ‘wobbly’ crown that served a purpose, absence of exchangeable bezels…in short, everything that made a Vostok a Vostok! I guess it remains to be seen just how ‘mod-able’ this Vostok will be. Not a big fan of the case as well, but a very informative video none the less!!

@@red75v67 i have no idea.. doesn't the crown tube prevent the stem from moving around too much?
@rneiman32 жыл бұрын
@@minlee7221 Perfectly normal, it's a design feature, and part of the Amphibia's character. Vostok found that when people wind watches they put some lateral pressure on the crown and stem, and this can lead to more wear and tear, and problems with the keyless works (part of the movement where the stem attaches to). So they made the crown intentionally wobbly so it wouldn't transmit the lateral pressure to the watch's keyless works.
