Why didn't you didn't mentioned that the US national anthem, “The Star-Spangled Banner is one of the most racist, pro-slavery, anti-black songs in the American lexicon? Few people know this because they only ever sing the first verse. But read the end of the third verse and you’ll see why “The Star-Spangled Banner” is almost a celebration of slavery: No refuge could save the hireling and slave From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave, And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

The problem is not that people can't sing it. It's that they won't. And the reason you are claiming that people don't know it is because they dismissed the Pledge and National Anthem from being recited and sung in school every day from a young age all the way through high school when I was a student myself. The Pledge and National Anthem should be restored in every school at every level. If students are not learning about the significance of their many freedoms, they will not appreciate them and will take them for granted.

srsdn journal that’s why you start in your middle or lower range where it is comfortable to sing. In the case of the US national anthem, the notes are just telling you whether to go higher or lower. I feel It doesn't matter whether its singable by the average Joe or not. The song was made to represent America, and I feel it shouldn't be changed. If it were changed it would take away the glory of the thousands of patriots that died holding up that flag because the British declared if the flag fell, the colonies would be back under British rule. In other words, changing the National Anthem would be the equivalent of taking the valor of war from veterans of the United States.

Yes. It's actually an amazing song when sung in an ensemble or played on instruments. It wasn't really meant to be sung alone. In fact, the tune itself was a song sung in a bar among a crowd of people.

Also, in the Philippines, the National Anthem is played in almost every public event: - Every morning at schools and government offices and agencies before the classes and work starts - It is played in the signing-on and signing-off of all TV channels in the morning (usually at 4 AM or 5 AM) and midnight (usually at 12 MN until the latest 2 AM) - at the cinema, before the movie starts - at competitions whether school competition, street competition, community competition. Even in constests in any form - at almost any event conceivable from small seminars, talks, conferences up to sports championships, graduations, concerts. - the Anthem is played at the President's Inauguration (duh) BUT, it is also played at the start of the State of the Nation Address (SONA/PH's counterpart of State of the Union) - it is also played at the beginning of EVERY session of the Senate and House of Representatives In summary, it became an unwritten rule that the Philippine National Anthem is played (or should be played) before the day begins and/or before any work is done. In the Philippines, the day is not complete when you do not hear the Anthem playing.

Everyone is unique in their own way, I think it is important to give others the opportunity to share their own version of the national anthem, and to be able to hear it come from different Americans. What makes it more special is the fact that it was a one time thing that people experienced in the moment. Please.

Land where my fathers died, Land of the pilgrims' pride, From every mountainside, Let Freedom Ring! If it wasn't for the fact it's the same melody of the country we declared from independence from (and the "land where my fathers died" line) it could have been a good replacement candidate as well.

I’m from Germany and except from the ending our national anthem is quite boring and not that hard to sing. We usually don’t have singers at soccer games but everyone sings it together or at political events there’s only a track in the background. I like how emotional the American anthem is. Jimi hendrix's interpretation of the national anthem in woodstock '69 is truly the best. He imitates the sound of a missile going off, the eerie screaming of woman and children, and Taps to honor the fallen

Razy absolutely, that was my favorite star spangled banner rendition ever performed. You can even hear the bombs falling on Vietnam

Jimi's performance of The Star Spangled Banner always gives me goosebumps. However, this video is about how difficult it is for most people to sing this song. Jimi's rendition didn't involve singing. But then maybe that's the key to solving this dilemma. Maybe TSSB shouldnt be sung, but only performed instrumentally, the way it's done when an American athlete wins a gold medal at the Olympics.

I also enjoy marvin gaye's rendition. Threw a lot of people off but that was how he sang, he made it his own. Hendrix still had the best version though.

As an American, I can sing the Star Spangled Banner with ease. . I thought everyone could? It's so drilled into our minds.

The thing about Britain is that the Queen (or King) represents the people, so essentially they're singing God save the people

That’s because it’s bold and was innovative when first written, and is literally all about triumph and success and patriotism, which I find important and successful in this manner. They’re literally saying that because it has a couple more steps means it aucks. Sure you don’t have to be able to sing it properly because it’s the subject that matters more. They are getting stuffed up with the group dynamic because they’re liberals haha
