I've had a lot of success lately just trying to knock out tasks with a Saiga I took off a raider. I started to see that I was doing better when I had run through the AP 20 he had on him and had replaced it with flachette. 10 shots of semi auto flachette means even with my potato skill I can take people down.

I really like the magnum round. It spreads quite nicely, meaning you can get easy face shots (if they dont wear face shield). I used to use AP-20 but the cost is more and I had weaker results with it.

To everybody saying "Yeah AP20 is the best" Why exactly are you running a shotgun? SNB does the exact same job, M80 does the Job. Cheaper, with more range, higher mag capacity. You're paying twice the Amount for something that can fail to pen class 4 Armor and sacrficing either Full Auto or Mag Capacity.

You say SNB and M80 do the same job, but you forget that they dont even have half the damage of AP-20. AP-20 still inflicts massive damage with shots that dont hit center mass where as SNB and M80 will take more than twice the amount of shots to do the same.

As a heavy shotgun user, while AP-20 and flechette sound very tempting, I find magnum buckshot + superperformance slugs to be the best ammunition for shotguns. Firstly, in a real engagement, a shotgun user will need to have the drop on a player, meaning they're initiating, in order to have the most success. Simply said, reactive fire is typically ineffective from a shotgun perspective, due to the lower rate of fire, lower accuracy, and typically lower magnifying sights. If you're caught off-guard, you're probably dead. My argument for the hollowpoint superperformance is the budget price + high damage. Ideally you can use RIP slugs but their recoil is quite high, the speed is significantly lower, the accuracy is lower, and the damage difference is negligible since most of the damage is reduced when hitting blacked-out legs, I will discuss this point later. The strategy for using 8.5 magnum + superperformance is this: since you are typically initiating fights, in a winning scenario with a shotgun, your chambered round should be the slug. One shot to the legs will typically halt a player in his tracks, giving you a HUGE amount of time to set up a kill shot for yourself. The Magnum buckshot sits in the rest of your magazine and serves largely as a backup round in the case you aren't able to have a quick followup, need a good way to suppress a hallway, or as a way of inaccurately taking a shot but still having a high possibility of hitting something. Their ability to one shot the face is huge, as it is with any buckshot, but also there is an additional factor people do not consider, especially with the latest changes: heavy and light bleed chances. Although RIP rounds do give a very good, 40%, light bleed chance, the heavy bleed sits at a 20%. This is important since heavy bleeds are quite brutal to med supplies if there's no hemostat/tourniquet. It also forces the player to promptly to react to it due to the deadly nature of it. The combination of superperformance with magnum buckshot basically allows the player to suppress the victim in terms of blood loss, constantly reapplying bleeds if needed or just flat out killing the person with leg meta/arm meta. Not even mentioning arm meta yet, nor the possibility of having both light&heavy bleeds, nor the possibility of having multiple bleeds on limbs from multiple buckshot hit locations, nor the extreme effectiveness on scavs, nor the effect of hitting legs with a hollowpoint slug, an arm shot with the slug can also be quite a deadly possibility. My $0.02, AP20 requires high amount of accuracy to the chest/face, which is just flat out not possible and still requires repeated hits when dealing with stronger armors. Why not go for something that's consistent across the board, something that doesn't exactly rely on your ability to aim?

@@cheyhey2170 bleed is not viable for killing people. bleed possibly could kill somebody if you exhaust all their meds which is possible if you keep a distance, however this is not so common. instead i propose that a bleed instead lets you position yourself against the enemy so that you can get a killing blow on the enemy. bleed the enemy, flank, shoot a kiillign blow shot at the enemy when they least expect it. bleed is viable, just not as pure damage. however if the enemy decides to not treat it with a hemostat, it will cause plenty of damage. so the point is most times, then enemy opts to deal with the heavy bleed usually as soon as possible, this gives you time to flank. i've pulled it off numerous times on open maps with range, you don't need bleeds at closer range since superperformance + magnum is a two shot kill or just two magnums.

6.5 express is definitely the best if you are going for head, eyes. Each pellet does just enough damage to one shot and it has 9 pellets instead of 8 like the other buckshots. Also the faster shot travel and lower recoil help with trying to hit head, eyes. My favorite is the flachette because you can catch a chad off guard and aim center mass to rip him apart.

I absolutely hate shotguns in tarkov(and most other games), but when i have needed to use a shotgun i have always found that flechette does a better job than ap-20 for me. Ive killed countless pmc's with it, but with ap-20 targets i hit just never seem to die due to hitting arms when going for the chest.

I agree. Arms get in the way of thorax too much and bullets never pen through properly at this current time. Close engagements with fletchette are an ez clap because 2-3 blasts to the arms will usually be enough to kill. Unless you can line the shot up with shotgun rounds to the head, just always aim at legs or center-mass when getting into engagements and you'll be shocked at the results.

Flechette's spread is actually an upside instead lf a downside with thw shotgun buffs. Since theyre separate projectiles, you dont have ro perfectly aim at your enemy to hit. This is amazing when doing extremely quick peeks and firing befire going for cover. This allows near instantaneous peeks that dont require high precision*

I really love using flechette and movement to outplay my opponents. The spread is a little bit more than most 12/70 ammo so if you're not 100% on target they are still going to get hurt. And also with both high flesh and high pen it's great against a various range of targets as long as you stay away from those long range battles. It's also great as a tactical tool. When I just want to extract I might shoot 1 or 2 rounds at an enemy and then run away, almost being positive that I've incapacitated them in one way or another from pursuing me. Flechette + the high ergo, high accuracy of the mossberg shotgun makes the accuracy penalty is not that noticeable. I don't see a lot of people talking about how inaccurate most shotguns feel at most ranges. Mossberg is the most consistent one for me and I know exactly how it will handle. Not having to fight to much RNG in the gun mechanics makes the gunplay a lot more predictable.

Flechette hands down. If I'm in any sort of gunfight less than 50m or so, I don't want to have to worry about maybe needing to hit the target with 3 or 4 direct chest shots with the AP-20 if they have good armor. Better to just unload with a saiga.

I'd argue flechette is better at very close range, but AP20 is more flexible, especially at further ranges. Personally I'd rather know I can hit targets far away (because let's be honest, unless you're in factory you won't get to decide how far away your targets are half the time) and close up.

Flechette does seem very good for anything close but in many cases on Woods, Shoreline, Customs in the outside areas you'd be better off with AP-20 I'd think. Maybe good idea to take a long range rifle, or maybe 5-7, along when using flechette on those long distance maps?

If I have flechette, I will be doing my best to not peek or give angles at long range, I.E. flank on the back side of a hill to close the distance, play indoors, hug cover, etc. What you said about a rifle is nice too - sometimes early wipe it combos well with a barebones/scoped mosin just in case

Forgot one thing.. Express buckshot have a chance to NOT onetap head (35 DMG vs 35 health)... Just a distance can make it... In this way 7mm or 5.25 are way better than express for anything like 10-15 meters and more.

Actually, .50 BMG slug shoild be like worst ammo since the 12.7 round does not actually fly in the air as we expected. It tumbles and spinning while flying the air so it can't really do a damage to armor irl. Shooting 50 bmg 12gauge rounds to armor is like throwing rocks to steel.

The .50 BMG round that we see in Tarkov is not an actual full on .50 BMG bullet. The actual piece of metal that is being sent down range is a cut off of the normal boat tail bullet design. While you certainly can put a full .50 BMG bullet in a shotgun shell, if you go online to look that up, you'll see quickly that the bullet extends further than the plastic shell. You can load that in a shotgun via the breech, but you can't load it into the magazine safely. While of course this is a video game, and most of this doesn't mean too much because as a video game, the mechanics are completely made up, I felt like I should explain it, because it is an important distinction. Its why the description for the round is the way it is. Someone is just cutting a bullet in half and stuffing it in a shotgun shell.

i've always loved flechette, but after a few situations where I was dumping my mag onto scavs 20 feet away, not being able to kill them, I gave up on it. i get 1 tapped by buckshot from 50 feet away, I would've thought that after 9 rounds or so, i'd be able to whittle down their naked ass head for the kill with flechette, but it rarely happens lol.

Just now I dropped a guy with full killa helmet and that lvl 5 armor rig, using nothing but a Saiga with 20 round drum filled with 6.5mm buckshot. I'd like to say I leg meta'd him, but I panicked and spammed fire center mass. So I technically arm meta'd him. The armor was undamaged, which is the best part.

Workbench in hideout makes 120 ap-20 shells for one red gunpowder and one Hard drive. Sorry if ur new bro. Jaeger is a shit to level up but it isnt too hard since most of his missions require killing scavs early. The later ones are so rough. Will take me a whole day to finish one since im bad lol. gl

Just to let ya know, I think from my recollection people have tried 50 bmg in a shotgun shell, and the main problem is the lack of normal 50bmg amounts of powder in the shell, and the lack of a rifled barrel, it sucks ass at penetration.

What's really dumb with AP-20, however, is I was one tapped with it through my altyn. I don't understand it myself. In the health screen is showed one count of damage from it and that was literally all the damage I had from the raid. I heard one shot as well so I doubt it glitched. Legit one tapped through level 5, I feel that to some extent AP-20 has it's own bugs and manages to pen higher tier armors.

Realistically the best shotgun ammo is flechette but… you gotta spend a lot to make it and you won’t be hittting every pellet but it is the best

From when I first took a quick look at the ammo charts, flechet seemed like a no brainer right away, never really got the AP20 hype. I mean yes, you get the extended distance, but you also need to nail all your shots which is easier said than done, and why even use a shotty at that point? With flechet you might not land all the rounds, but you can also "miss" and still land some hits, much easier to spam, especially if you're aiming at a group of players. Glad to see the testing more or less lined up with what I thought.

But what about superformance? It has 220 damage while a PMC has 440 health. Should be enough to two-shot a leg unless the game does some rounding shenanigans. That coupled with its insane accuracy bonus can make it a better RIP, not to mention they can be bought from traders unlike RIPs.

Just got 17 hits on an armored pistoleer PMC with flechette (with like 3 or 4 chest shots), did 370 dmg and only like 120 was absorbed by armor, before he shot me through my helmet. It was a good fight but I kept waiting for the flechette to do its job and it failed me lol

My suggestion: go for hollowpoint slugs for initiating fights or disabling their movement with a shot to their legs and magnum buckshot for finishing/doing huge amounts of damage to the enemy.

Most of my engagements are close range anyways, so flechette is king in my book. I always said if they made the view on scopes better for shotguns, I'd be sniping with AP-20s 😎

Been using saiga a lot this wipe. Magnum buck is my go to for taking off faces or legs. If I wanted to use ap20 why wouldn’t I just use an actual gun for one projectile. For me flechette is super inconsistent, I’ve never really liked using it

Magnum buckshot in the saiga I havnt found to be to great, but in some situations, you can absolutely shred juice boy squads. Also good to know flechette is decent.

I don't trust flachette at all. Emptied a 20 round mag with a min-max saiga into a thicc boi with Killa armor from 5-10 meters. Got 28 hits and only 250 dmg dealt to body with 300+ stopped by armor.

A real life reason the BMG would not be as good is the bullet would be tumbling through the air and not hitting nose first. theres videos where people load .50 into a shell and it just tumbles all the way down range

I kill Killa quite reliably with 2-3 AP-20, the downside his mask is always 0-roed. I generally I go for 5Flech+5AP-20 (in saiga 10 round mag) and I almost never seen person surviving, even if I miss 2-3.

i think it all comes down to what kind of situation your going for fights wise. ive been having huge success using buckshots when going to dorms due to the shorter distances and it being corridors so its alot harder for them to be moving meaning the likely hood of all the pellets hitting is extremely high. due to how many pellets you can pretty much leg/arm meta guys in a second if they look at you. its actually harder to kill a guy from behind because the pellets will hit his chest and not the arms sticking out infront when facing. but if i know im going to be fighting at a bit of a range then there is nothing even remotely close to how good AP20 is. tbh overall i feel alot of people really overlook shotguns when they are extremely viable with alot of ammo choices depending on what kind of fights you are going to be pushing for and also they can be very cheap to make a decent mp153 or even a cheap saiga(although i feel the kick is much more noticable on a saiga then a mp153)

What is the best ammo for shooting sprinting targets at range? I.e. which bullets travel the fastest/need the least amount of lead/have the least drop? Do bullets lose pen power over distance/are they more likely to fragment at extreme ranges vs inside 100m? How big of a difference is a 3+moa rifle vs a sub-moa (260mm m4 vs say a FAL) for spread cone? Is moa accuracy implemented correctly in Tarkov?

The gorilla sized arm hitboxes catch 90% of the flechettes for me making it wildly inconsistent

Yeah, thats why I use AP20 or 8.5 magnum. I'm either aiming with the slugs or im looking to shred the targets arms/legs/stomach and face if im lucky.

Why not test rip slugs against any of the armor? The pure damage of the round would likely deal quite a bit of blunt damage even with good armor.

@@robertdover5185 Yeah, true. A well modded out shotgun makes it a lot easier though especially if you do hit them in the legs, they can't exactly move much anymore. My gripe with going for armor is that RIP slug isn't supposed to be a kill round: too much reliance on your own accuracy, you need the drop on the enemy, etc... If you want that, just go with magnum buckshot you have a much higher chance to headshot a guy or causing him to bleed or just leg meta him if close.
