I’m just going to say it bluntly this is one of the most authentic super bowl shows of all time. It wasn’t about being super over the top, even though one can argue this one was still pretty over the top in some ways. This show to me is how I think they should all be; which is more focus on the actual artist and his/her craft instead of it being about how many different roles you can put them in. If you ask me an artist is defined more by their body of work than their skill as an entertainer. Super bowl experiences should reflect that and instead of try and create huge larger than life production, they should create an experience that takes you into the world the artist has created. All the best ones have been able to do that.

Hmm just here trying to give a different perspective on this show: maybe we're a bit too used to see flashy things happening around the artists that we forget how important is to have a solid singing performance on stage. To me this show reminded me of Prince's show, where it was all about himself (in a positive way) with just a pair of dancers beside him. Also, the fact that he performed in a nearly empty stadium forced the production team to step outside of the box and the idea to place the show on the standings was pretty cool to me. Sadly they messed up with the mix and his voice wasn't always on top of everything, but I really thing we're gonna look back at this show in a couple of years and be like "damn that guy gave us a great singing performance". By the way reaction was cool and on point

For a vocal coach, you should've done some research on the artist. You don't seem to know anything about him. And also, the pandemic is still going on. It's a bit milder now but the 2021 COVID wave was much more lethal and devastating. More elaborate choreography would have meant more extensive rehearsals and hence increased exposure. Also, all the dancers on the ground had N95 masks on their faces in addition to the bandages. FYI, It's extremely difficult to perform in those masks. There was a reason why the choreography was kept simple. The Weeknd prioritised everyone's safety. Even the set was built in a way to ensure appropriate distance between the performers. That distance was measured and numbers were marked for each dancer. He really made sure that everybody stayed safe. You can watch the videos of sets being made and other related stuff.

Not sure on all these downvotes. Great thorough reaction. I think people who don't know who the Weeknd is wanted more from the performance aspect when there were so many regulations and guidelines on what he was able to do. That being said out of the 55 SB halftimes I'm not sure how many of those artists are able to hit every note clean for 12 minutes straight, Not a single attempt at lip syncing. That's what makes the Weeknd special. He is a top tier vocalist. The mix definitely let him down, his mic was not loud enough. People wanted all these special guests and he decided to tell his story he's been telling and just do it alone. I respect that.

You are right, I don‘t know a whole lot about him, but what I do know is that he‘s a fantastic singer! 🔥
@Alex_J63 жыл бұрын
It's actually not pre recorded, you can hear things like when he picks up the mic off the stand early in the performance, his voice is slightly quieter when the mic is farther away, etc.

There are a lot of hateful comments and I feel sorry but I can see the point. It is useless to discuss dance and choreography with an artist like The Weeknd which is totally different to what female performers have done in the past years. Definitely, female artists get a lot more pressure but then again artists like Adele are not known for dancing. Idk, it is strange to criticize dancing when you are a vocal couch, which is the the title of the video.
@VoxTapeStudios3 жыл бұрын
I see your point. Vocal coaching for me is more than just the voice... performance is part of it. No doubt his vocal performance was outstanding and his overall performance was great too!
@Aquafeenaa2 жыл бұрын
Came here for a reaction but I came out learning something. I really appreciate this, got what I came for and also learned more about what singers might/might not do. Very interesting. Overall a perfect reaction. I think the weeknds voice is perfect and you explaining some things that went good and bad is just awesome

I couldn’t believe how low the audio was. If you look at videos from the audience perspective, the audio is much better than the tv version. But I will say, if I was there in person, I probably would’ve been underwhelmed, especially compared to other performances, but he’s still a good artist
@VoxTapeStudios3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I wish his mic was louder... But he sounded amazing! I totally understand what you're saying... I feel like we all have these expectations when it comes to the Super Bowl and when an artist delivers something different (not bad, just different) we seem to be disappointed or underwhelmed... He was definitely above average with his vocal performance though!

Considering the fact that he had to pay for it himself it's pretty damn good. And I doubt he would have been able to maintain that great pitch that impressed you for 12 odd minutes while running around.

You definitely have a point there :) I’m pretty sure he had to run around quite a bit since he was changing stages so quickly! And still his voice was spot on!!!
