Voyager spent 7 years all on its own in absolutely unexplored part of the Galaxy not only surviving and getting home but also gathering wealth of knowledge and super advanced technology (not even counting the overpowered Anti Borg tech from the future ...) while saving galaxy several times over from being destroyed or taken over ... Kim was stuck at Ensign simply because Voyager couldnt afford to promote anyone, because there were no vacancies to move the ranked up personnel for appropriate position only promotion i remember were returning Paris to Lieutenant rank again to reverse his demotion and Tuvok going from Lieutenant to lieutenat-commander which made zero difference as he was already second officer of the ship so the promotion had absolutely no effect as he already was commanding officer to any lieutenant on the ship by that fact and only two higher ranking officers were Chakotay and Janeway... the rank up just meant he would also rank higher than lt. on OTHER ships which was pointless in the Delta.

@@Tylerpierre99 "Mansplaining" is a derogatory concept feminists came up with to describe when a man explains something from a supposedly male-oriented perspective. It implies that the male is being sexist by explaining something condescendingly to the female with the pretext that she doesn't understand it on the basis of being a female. Of course, it's completely fabricated garbage and is in fact a variation of an ad hominem fallacy (attacking the person, not the argument). My original comment is a joke on Voyager's script writing. Voyager & crew discover a recently eviscerated Borg ship. The Borg, being the big bad BORG, must have encountered something pretty gnarly to get mangled like that. Not once here does it occur to the crew that perhaps evaluating the scale of threats is more prudent than "Let's loot the corpse". Considering that the Borg are reason enough to run away screaming, something that can slap the Borg down with ease should be an order of magnitude higher up on the 'run away!' scale. There isn't even a precaution of 'let's get what we want and get out of here in case whatever killed that cube shows back up.' But because I made this joke at the proverbial facsimile of Janeway, a female, some random feminist who may or may not be a bot decided I was 'mansplaining'. I don't think I need to 'mansplain' to point out how bad an idea it is to stick around while something that can kill the thing that can easily kill us is potentially in the same sector. If the captain had been Kirk, Picard, Sisko, or any other person, I'd still be commenting on it in about the same snarky fashion.

Star Fleet long range sensors vary by ability by class of starship and time period but Voyager has shown her long range sensors extend out to at least 15 light years and visual abilities just short of that. Once the astrogation lab came on line it went into the hundreds of light years but that was using Borg technology. The Enterprise E had a range in hundred of light years as well in the film Generations. The different between ranges in sensor is the amount of data that can be collected. Basic information from long range and exponentially more details as the range shortens.

I get why Paris said "The Borg", but personally it took away from the ominous moment when the cube appeared.
@TheOneZytel6 жыл бұрын
This was my first time seeing the Borg and now after many years of consuming Star Trek. I also noticed a very nice touch how here when the cube was on the screen they used the same instrument and tunes as in First Contact at the part where Picard and co. were going to the deflector dish. Very nice touch indeed. :)

"Red Alert. All Stop, shields to maximum, stand-by all weapons!" It's not the music, or Paris' shocked comment. It's Janeway's complete and instant shift from "relaxed-sunbathing-lioness-watching-her-kittens" to "lioness-who-just-saw-a-hyena-come-near-her-kittens" that really sells the threat of the Borg, even to someone who has never seen the Borg before, like me when I first saw Voyager many, many years ago. It somewhat spoiled the Borg reveal in TNG for me, or course.

Always strange: when they are hailing, they do not give the receiver any time to respond. And when something comes "into visual range", they do alway have a very clear and big image immediately. Why did they not check the camera, when ist was smaller? It is not too hard to identify a Borg cube.

I find it funny that her first instinct is to announce themselves to unidentified ships outside of visual range, like they're not in uncharted territory filled with potentially hostile species... like the borg. I feel like it would have been a bit more impactful if they didn't declare "THE BORG" when they saw it on screen. Just that ominous theme, and Janeway standing up and immediately ordering red alert. Not everyone watching the show in the 90's had seen the previous series. I remember this moment well, being 10 or 11 at the time. @Slavir_Nabru3 жыл бұрын
ST-Picard is the first canonical appearance of the Borg since Endgame. Remember the neurolytic pathogen? We saw the Queen/Collective lose control of many/most/all ships and the transwarp hub. If it still exists, it's almost certainly too busy recovering technology in the Delta quadrant. This is one of the occasions Kurtzman, or somebody on the team at least, apparently does know better.
@Anthyrion3 жыл бұрын
@@Slavir_Nabru It was one and important Transwarp Network, which the Voyager destroyed. And yes, combined with the Virus, Admiral Janeway brought from the future, the Borg were in disorder. But not so much, that they can't recover in the 30 years that went since this incedent. And if the Borg were able to sent one Cube, they could sent others through a other Transwork Network. And i doubt, that the Queen is dead. She uploads herself into another cloned body and deletes the virus or adapt to it
@Acrosurge3 жыл бұрын
@@Anthyrion I don't know that its a matter of the Queen "uploading" anything. The Borg is a Collective and they can manifest a queen whenever it is convenient. I don't see her as an individual, but a representation of the entire Collective. To make it impossible to have a Queen, you'd have to kill off the whole Collective; all Borg, everywhere.
@Anthyrion3 жыл бұрын
@@Acrosurge I think, they made it partly canon, that the Queen exist within the Collective and can download herself into a new body. But Memory Alpha says, that there are some inconsistencies because the Queen behaves different in Voyager and First Contact and contradicts the first thoughts, how the Borg are operating. It speculates, that the Queen is a physical manifestation of the Collective and represents the Collective as whole. But i still think, that the Voyager destroyed only one major Transwarp Network and the Virus brought chaos into the Collective only for a short time, before it adapted to the virus.

You'd think a freaking Borg Cube would trigger an immediate alert on the sensors. In the time it took them to figure out who it was a fully operational Cube would be lopping off Janeways arm.
@Jokie1556 жыл бұрын
A fully functional Cube would probably be a lot easier to identify, energy signature, actual movement pattern etc.
@Jajo39986 жыл бұрын
Most likely standard sensors are only passiv as to not alert any other ship that they are being scanned. And as this cube is rather deactivated sensors would have trouble even recognizing it's a ship and not an asteroid. An active Cube would emit massiv amounts of energy the sensors could interpret.
@JanetStarChild6 жыл бұрын
Just because the vessel is on the view screen, doesn't mean it's a mere kilometer away. That Borg cube could still be 100 km away, giving the Voyager crew enough time to react.
