Gotta love the "iconic threat level" the Borg inspires. One look on that screen of the floating cube, and it's red alert. Romulans, not so bad. Klingons, they're ok. Borg, BATTLE STATIONS NOW!

borg didn't get transwarp tech till after seven of nine came along.can't recall the name of the alien,but he faked a star fleet ship to take the crew to the borg in the ep. his people supplied transwarp tech after the eps. so that cube wouldn't of had it.

@@tonynelligan1930 2374 - A vessel belonging to species 116 named the Dauntless was assimilated by the collective, it's quantum slipstream capable of speeds of at least 10,000 light-years per hour. It was assimilated and adapted to enhance the previous transwarp conduit technology. That's the bit you're thinking of. The Borg already were transwarp capable decades before that, that's how they had gotten to the alpha quadrant before, including the time they ran into the Raven near the romulan neutral zone before transwarping back to the Delta quadrant with the raven in their wake. So not sure how you thought they didn't have it before seven of nine, when them having it is part of how she got assimilated.

@@darkjediknight2923 yeah fat chance of that, whole command crew of Voyager would get instant promotions to Commander at least, Janeway made instant Admiral, Tuvok and Chakotay would be promoted to Captains and given theyr own command (Tuvok taking over as captain of Voyager and Chakotay maybe resigning his commission again, but as Captain rank nonetheless) by the shows end they were probably the most experienced crew in the whole Starfleet, ways above the usual rank and file, having Paris or Kim as anything other than first officers would be insulting AND incredible waste ... remember usual exploration tour of duty for federation FLAGSHIP exploring frontier is 5 years, with return trips home, steady supply line and constant contact with Starfleet ... Voyager spent 7 years all on its own in absolutely unexplored part of the Galaxy not only surviving and getting home but also gathering wealth of knowledge and super advanced technology (not even counting the overpowered Anti Borg tech from the future ...) while saving galaxy several times over from being destroyed or taken over ... Kim was stuck at Ensign simply because Voyager couldnt afford to promote anyone, because there were no vacancies to move the ranked up personnel for appropriate position only promotion i remember were returning Paris to Lieutenant rank again to reverse his demotion and Tuvok going from Lieutenant to lieutenat-commander which made zero difference as he was already second officer of the ship so the promotion had absolutely no effect as he already was commanding officer to any lieutenant on the ship by that fact and only two higher ranking officers were Chakotay and Janeway... the rank up just meant he would also rank higher than lt. on OTHER ships which was pointless in the Delta.

What's mansplaining?
@atigerclaw
@atigerclaw 3 жыл бұрын
@@Tylerpierre99 "Mansplaining" is a derogatory concept feminists came up with to describe when a man explains something from a supposedly male-oriented perspective. It implies that the male is being sexist by explaining something condescendingly to the female with the pretext that she doesn't understand it on the basis of being a female. Of course, it's completely fabricated garbage and is in fact a variation of an ad hominem fallacy (attacking the person, not the argument). My original comment is a joke on Voyager's script writing. Voyager & crew discover a recently eviscerated Borg ship. The Borg, being the big bad BORG, must have encountered something pretty gnarly to get mangled like that. Not once here does it occur to the crew that perhaps evaluating the scale of threats is more prudent than "Let's loot the corpse". Considering that the Borg are reason enough to run away screaming, something that can slap the Borg down with ease should be an order of magnitude higher up on the 'run away!' scale. There isn't even a precaution of 'let's get what we want and get out of here in case whatever killed that cube shows back up.' But because I made this joke at the proverbial facsimile of Janeway, a female, some random feminist who may or may not be a bot decided I was 'mansplaining'. I don't think I need to 'mansplain' to point out how bad an idea it is to stick around while something that can kill the thing that can easily kill us is potentially in the same sector. If the captain had been Kirk, Picard, Sisko, or any other person, I'd still be commenting on it in about the same snarky fashion.

Star Fleet long range sensors vary by ability by class of starship and time period but Voyager has shown her long range sensors extend out to at least 15 light years and visual abilities just short of that. Once the astrogation lab came on line it went into the hundreds of light years but that was using Borg technology. The Enterprise E had a range in hundred of light years as well in the film Generations. The different between ranges in sensor is the amount of data that can be collected. Basic information from long range and exponentially more details as the range shortens.

Also, you need to consider the speeds at which starships move (subwarp speeds and space vessels IRL measure speed in meters per SECOND), and the fact that the cube was completely offline. The fact they picked it up at all is amazing, considering in most sci-fi, sensors run on heat signatures and EM emissions, and that thing would be emitting nothing.

This episode, whether intentionally or not, makes a good job of obscuring the Borg as to whether this was before or after the "First Contact" Borg. It also helps that this felt like a season 2 episode. I genuinely believed that this was the "TNG" Borg. That's what this episode so scary. The music made it that way. This episode sends chills down my spine. This is Dennis McCarthy or Jay Chattaway when their militant music really spells impending doom. Excellent.

ST-Picard is the first canonical appearance of the Borg since Endgame. Remember the neurolytic pathogen? We saw the Queen/Collective lose control of many/most/all ships and the transwarp hub. If it still exists, it's almost certainly too busy recovering technology in the Delta quadrant. This is one of the occasions Kurtzman, or somebody on the team at least, apparently does know better.
@Anthyrion
@Anthyrion 3 жыл бұрын
@@Slavir_Nabru It was one and important Transwarp Network, which the Voyager destroyed. And yes, combined with the Virus, Admiral Janeway brought from the future, the Borg were in disorder. But not so much, that they can't recover in the 30 years that went since this incedent. And if the Borg were able to sent one Cube, they could sent others through a other Transwork Network. And i doubt, that the Queen is dead. She uploads herself into another cloned body and deletes the virus or adapt to it
@Acrosurge

@@Acrosurge I think, they made it partly canon, that the Queen exist within the Collective and can download herself into a new body. But Memory Alpha says, that there are some inconsistencies because the Queen behaves different in Voyager and First Contact and contradicts the first thoughts, how the Borg are operating. It speculates, that the Queen is a physical manifestation of the Collective and represents the Collective as whole.
