It was the late 60ties, I was in high school. Joan Baez played outside at Harvard stadium for one dollar admission!! Needless to say it was packed & I didn’t get in. Stood outside mesmerized, while listening!!

When this song came out on Blonde On Blonde, it was in the era of 2 to 3 minute singles. That anyone would devote one side of an LP to one song was stunning, but it flowed along like a river of metaphors. Dylan is/ was very good at creating melodies for his poetry. His melodies are underrated. Joan is wonderful on this one.

In about 10 years from this year, all these gems, all these wonderful singer, songwriters and talented hippies that changed this world will sadly die off, never to be replaced. I was just a kid of nineteen and was leaving home for the first time.the girl I was courting and I were hanging around the home of some other ladies where this song was being played over and over yet we loved it and never grew tired of it. I'm seventy now and this song takes me back to my youth. Oh to be young again, for just a moment long enough to reconsider the choices that I made back then just long enough to create a different life a better life than the one that I had dealt for myself. In 1964 I was often in front of the White House when we picketed the White House and singing all those old civil rights songs In support of passing the 1964 Civil Rights Bill. One day it was bigger rally across the street in Lafayette Park. I was just standing around and all of a sudden, Joan Baez stepped out of the crowd. She was there to support Civil Rights, not to sing. I was stunned by how beautiful she was. A few years later she was singing to a huge crowd gathered on the Mall in an anti Vietnam war protest. She was singing from a stage erected on the west steps of the Capitol exactly where the January 6th riot took place. Around 4 years ago I saw her perform at the Kate Wolf Festival in Mendocino county. Her son was playing percussion. She looked great and sounded great and got a standing ovation. She turned 80 last January 9th.

I had the opportunity to see her twice live, my heart warmed with deep emotions, also the memory of my late mother. Today we see there are tremendous forces that only concern seems to be holding onto a power that was earned on the backs of those enslaved. The fight continues! I was there when she introduced him at Newport in '64 (all acoustic) & in '65 when he did his first tunes acoustic & came back all electric----fans booed him like crazy !!? Joan's voice is heavenly. There are others including Judy Collins, Priscilla Herdman, Kate Wolf. But Joan really does a great interpretation of Dylan's writings.

It's minus 5 celcius So it's a 35 to 40 degree difference in 12 hours Wild. Not too uncommon though I'm lookin ahead to spring And some classic country god day Texas
