The amount of 500 games for VR that you found on Google is an incredibly old statistic. Just in 2024, there have been 400 native VR games released only on Steam (not including Meta, PSVR, SideQuest, Pico, Omni. etc.). There are currently 4,114 VR games, and that does not include all of them.
@MindMaster2362 ай бұрын
Plus, the supposed issue that most VR games are not quality is not a valid concern, even if 75% of all VR games are trash and unplayable, and we are only counting 4114 games, there would still be 1028 quality VR games. Also, even if you still believe that this is still an issue, more quality VR games are being put out all the time. Look at Batman: Arkham Shadow, Lies Beneath, Asgard's Wrath 1&2, Bonelab,, Demeo, Breachers, Ghosts of Tabor etc. Also, watch out for games coming soon like, Behemoth (pretty much Shadow of the Colossus in VR), Metro: Awakening, and Alien: Rogue Incursion.

I disagree with the graphics part, at least in my VR experience the games i most enjoy are ones like Half Life Alyx, Boneworks, Into The Radius, Bonelabs Blade and Sorcery, No Mans Sky VR, The Forest and heavily modded Skyrim VR. Which are all pretty good, graphically. especially Half life Alyx. VrChat can be beautiful, super detailed, and graphically intense but that is not a game it's more of a social platform. Games like Gorilla Tag are good for kids, but i would very much like more decent to high quality graphics games. Artistic and unique games like Moss are games i really look forward to, beautiful artstyle and looks really nice in the headset, with unique gameplay. I want to see games that can combine VR and desktop players in a duo story type puzzle game .where the VR user can do the obvious unique things and have the freedom to help the player or have to do something to continue onwards in the story/ beat the puzzle. Kind of like Moss but the mouse, Quil, is a desktop player. and the giant spirit, is a VR player. side note i have; Quest Exclusivity is awful for VR as a whole, so is any "headset" exclusive titles. The market is already small enough we don't need to make it even smaller.
@SargonDragonАй бұрын
The market and technology conditions for VR are not anything like they were for the PS2 when it launched. For the equivalent, you'd have to go much earlier than the first PlayStation. That stuff did not start out big either. Nothing ever has. But people only remember the stuff that went big, and not the stuff that came before it that blazed the trail. That's where VR is now.
@justusapes2 ай бұрын
the biggest problem with Vr are the restrictions of hardware from the quest. most people dont play pc vr. There are pc only vr gems like half life alyx, phasmophobia and a bunch of others. Most people dont have a pc or one capable of vr. For a pc you'd need to spend a minimum of like 900 if you're very good at budgeting and building one (you're probably not) so you'll be paying at least 1000 on top of the price for a vr headset 300-1000 dollars depending on the quality you want to experience vr in. It's expensive and even if you have all that be ready to pay 20 dollaars per game you want to play. Its sad that its so expensive to play vr. So yes you can aargue that vr games are shit but the market for them is small because of all the expenses to play these gems.
@UncleBurrito152 ай бұрын
I think quest exclusivity might kill VR. Quest headsets are very underpowered. They do not have the power to process 4 separate camera feeds, processing signals from multiple different built in sensors, triangulate positions for two controllers which requires visually tracking them via cameras as well as processing wireless signals received from the sensors within the controllers, keeping track of a virtual boundry, have an os running, and many more essential processes. This leaves little headroom to store game data like textures in the ram, run the game logic which can include complicated physics calculations and finally render a HIGH RESOLUTION, HIGH REFRESH RATE image to be shown on the screens. It's simply way too much for today's technology. This leads to devs cutting way too many corners to make a game compatible with these stupid devices. (Look at what happened to bonelab). On the other hand, a computer is much, much more powerful as it does not face weight, thermal, and power constraints, and can easily handle all those tasks while having enough headroom to run a much higher fidelity game, both in terms of logic and graphics. Just look at the masterpiece which is called Half Life Alyx. Quest exclusivity WILL kill vr if devs don't stop chasing the meta money, or meta itself doesn't figure out how to make these devices more powerful. Thanks for reading my essay. I hate quest exclusivity (I have a quest 2 lmao) Edit: No we don't need gorilla tag. Stop.
@JustToad27Ай бұрын
The main reason the quest has so many players on it is cause its so cheap compared to other VR options. VR is still in its infancy despite it being around for 10 years, Meta is pushing really hard for VR Tech and is also making it highly accessible. i will agree that its totally underpowered but considering the fact it runs VR as well as it does for the price it is will ALWAYS blow my mind.

Is VR only for gaming ? Most people think that, and yes it is gaming technology, but i think that VR is not for gaming only! The opportunity to be where you can't be that easy IRL can be so much more. VRChat and similar are platforms are a media for communication on a whole new level. Gaming is just one option for VR, but there can be much more that can be done with it. Compare the 500 games with more than 50000 maps in VRChat, and who knows how many the other platforms have. And for safety-reasons they are quite limited in what is possible. But what if ... ?

VR can be used for many things, but I think that it should stick to gaming. Every company has already tried making VR a non gaming thing, and they have all failed. Pushing a small market completely away from its core users will not work out for the players, the money, or the companies.
