The plastic ziplocs are the way to go for this type of fun stuff. You have to be organized! Thanks for the great stuff James!

DRC268s are great! Basically identical to the Schricks at a fraction of the cost. Really help open things up over 5k rpm, with minimal losses down low. The 12 valve motors tend to struggle up top

Wow. That block is in amazing shape. I'm up in Nova Scotia, Canada and a VR block only looks that good for about 6 months.

On my build I had about 50 zip lock bags with post-it notes in the bags with the parts. Also completely blew up my phone with pics all along the way mostly for harness and hose routing.

Like that tool box gow organized it looks, like a hazet tool box. I like the way you work. Almost the same way I do. I use ziplock bags and sharpie. Keep up the good work! VW fan. (BMW tech)

Do you recommend replacing the oil cooler it self. From my experience theses don't fail typically. Only the o rings which are like a few bucks . I would recommend throwing it on the parts cleaner and flushing it.

Are you on vortex also ?
@HumbleMechanic
@HumbleMechanic 8 жыл бұрын
+Jamie Mosteller I have a Vortex profile but I'm not on much. I'll probably replace the cooler. These are super bad about failing. Not like the Passats. But it's a small investment to keep the engine happy

Great Job Charles! Love the VR6! One unique motor! Could you do a live feed with KZbin instead?
@HumbleMechanic
@HumbleMechanic 8 жыл бұрын
I will be doing that soon too. FB is SUPER easy because I can do it on mobile inside the app. I have not found a way to do that with KZbin. I may even set up and do both. I also like FB because I Can see your comments. From what I understand, YT doesn't do that? I could be wrong on that one.

They have a live chat a little bit like twitch.tv does... it makes it hard if you have a huge viewcount to see what people are saying but it's quite easy to set up.

I'm thinking a 3/8" impact wrench (at least) from Milwaukee would be more ideal, instead of an impact driver.
@HumbleMechanic
@HumbleMechanic 8 жыл бұрын
+skmetal7 yeah that doesn't have the juice for that. But it's all I have at the studio. Lol

Charles i'm surprised you did not cover the ports on the ac compressor when you took the lines off
@HumbleMechanic
@HumbleMechanic 8 жыл бұрын
+Brad Downs that's a good habit. I didn't because the AC system was open when I got the car. I'm a little nervous the compressor is shot
@braddowns17
@braddowns17 8 жыл бұрын
HumbleMechanic that's never a good sign to find an open system. it probably is toast or as we used to say lunched.
@HumbleMechanic
@HumbleMechanic 8 жыл бұрын
+Brad Downs haha no it's a bad thing for sure. I didn't realize it was open when I got the car.
@braddowns17
@braddowns17 8 жыл бұрын
my luck would be it was torn apart for just a bad or broken hose and the compressor would be shot from being open. can you get a rebuild kit for that compressor?

when you round out the allen bolts get a bigger allen key bit like the one used tap it in as far as it will go and use a rattle or breaker bar to get it out. will it still not go out? get a bolt in that fits and weld it to the allen bolt the heat will heat the allen bolt. dont let it cool down but use the impact tool to get the allen bolt out.
@HumbleMechanic
@HumbleMechanic 8 жыл бұрын
+otto leeverink often you can tap a torx into an Allen it bites in a different spot
@350munrohome
@350munrohome 8 жыл бұрын
Maybe try a real impact instead of that thing you use that is made for driving screws, you loose a lot of torque through those adaptors.
@HumbleMechanic
@HumbleMechanic 8 жыл бұрын
+350munro the adapters lose a very minimal amount. But you're right this little guy doesn't have the HP for that. Buts it's all I have at the house

Was wondering how easy it is to get rebuildable Pre-2005 VR6's.. I'd do one up too if it was possible.
@HumbleMechanic

It's not too bad. The 2v4v are a little more challenging, but not too bad

I've a neat project that could use a decent engine, and a VR6 might be a good candidate as it could easily accept a variety.

Any reason you went with the Milwaukee that takes an impact chuck instead of maybe the 3/8s with the anvil? I recently got myself a 3/8s anvil and love it so far.
@HumbleMechanic
@HumbleMechanic 8 жыл бұрын
+Fabendog i like the flexibility of it. I have lots of bits for that chuck. I also have these awesome locking 1/4" drive bits for it. I think he 3/8th is great too. I just prefer that 1/4" chuck.

So my vr6 just did the same thing, started by smoking and overheating then some leakage from the head. Then dead :( I've been looking to get another engine ( used or hopefully rebuilt ) and professionally put in. How difficult would it be to put a 24v engine in my originally 12v vr6?
@HumbleMechanic
