People need to get the word out and force this homeowner out of the vacation rental market! Frankly , I would never purchase property that was under the control of an HOA. These wannabe tyrants would have zero power if people simply stopped purchasing homes within these associations. That said, people who do belong to HOAs can't expect short-term renters to comply with an agreement that they're completely unaware of beforehand.

Not that I want to defend the HOA, but they have their rules. The property owner is the one at fault. (I don't know legal issues might arise if an HOA allows rules to be broken if other homeowners complain. That could be why they weren't helpful.)

When I knew you were going I sent a prayer that you wouldn’t have problems on THIS trip like last year’s. I’ve been to DisneyWorld in FL twice. I’ve been to Disneyland in CA 12 times as we lived in SoCal. And I’m old, so I remember the rules they had - no long hair on boys, no excessive skin shown (mid drift blouses). No excessive Public Displays of Affection (teens making out). Not allowed!🚫 This was when you had actual paper tickets. Anyway, I really enjoyed Animal Kingdom in FL. My favorite is probably Epcot. Doubt it would have been my favorite when I was younger though 🤷🏼‍♀️. PRAYING SAFE TRAVELS BACK HOME!! Be careful!! Many roads closed. Hopefully not the direction of your journey home 🙏🏻

Hate to tell you but that is a gulf coast is always going to do that. Don't even think you will stay in a beach house in gulf shores Alabama if we have a hurricane hit, especially if it is near a direct hit or on the east side of the storm. The bridges close so once you stay there is no help coming. If it's a mandatory evacuation if you do not own the place you are staying the police won't let you stay. It's a safety issue and insurance issue as well.

When you own a home in a neighborhood with a HOA, there are certain rules you MUST follow!!! Honestly, I don’t feel any home with a HOA should ever be a VRBO!!! Those homeowners KNOW how strict the rules are! The letter you got came from the HOA. All they are concerned about is making sure the HOA rules are followed. The neighbors many times pay large amounts of money to have the rules enforced. The ones who are at total fault are the OWNERS of that house! They should never be allowed to lease another house, EVER. They knew full well that tourist have no way of knowing if a house is under an HOA. Or, was there a mention of an HOA before you got there? After living in an HOA neighborhood you know how strict it is. NO HOA I’ve ever heard of would ever allow a trailer to sit around a home. I’m so sorry you all experienced this. When I was travelling to Ca from MO, I would always call the hotels directly, which isn't easy, instead of the 800 number. This was almost 20 years ago! That way I could see how they treated me. I don't even know what a VRBO is. These people have been so awful to you all. It reminds me of CA. You all are nice MS people!

Vacation rentals has been an on going issue for the county. Many communities don’t want them in there neighborhoods. Some have stipulations that a rental can be no less than 30 days because of the partying and excess traffic. HOA’s are cracking down on them as soon as they realize which homes are being used as vacation rentals. This is their way of weeding them out. It was most likely the neighbor that complained. I bet if you had driven through the entire neighborhood you would have seen trailers, boats, & other recreational vehicles parked at homes. I’m so sorry this trip has been a nightmare for you & family.

We decided to never book a "private" rental because of stories like this. If you rent 2 adjoining rooms at a hotel that sleeps 8 they have small frigs,microwaves, and coffee makers. Most have free breakfasts. For us this is enough for light cooking and eat one meal out. We stay at moderate motels and have had good experiences. Many private owners don't understand the work involved.

I can’t believe you mommy went on this ride. Wow. Your brave. I know mommy did it for the kids so much fun. I did the same when my kids were little. Only once lol. What a crowd. Your trailer didn’t look that big. You were parked inside the lines with room on both sides. I was gonna say that. The Walmarts usually ask for each night you stay you just buy something and show receipt. Could be just $5 cheap trailer parking. But that Walmart must be awful. So sad such a loving vacation came to all this. My heart goes out to you and your family. That’s right not in writting that you can’t park the trailer there at place you rented. Why won’t police department be nice and say park it here since your out of state. No nice people left in the world So sad for you. That was nice of that employee to tell you that. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. God please let rest of their vacation be nice. And fun. This family has earned this vacation. No - we have been all over America and always read all the details and never had any issues - until this one - they didn’t have the rules listed - it would have been really helpful to list their HOA rules for renters coming in from other states

A couple ask me if they could leave their trailer at the service station I worked at. We were closed at night. I told the couple that I did not recommend leaving the trailer there. They left it there anyway with a lock on the trailer. I got a call from the manager the next morning. Someone had cut the lock, thrown eggs, tomatoes, etc at the restaurant/gas station and pulled the trailer down into a hollow. I had to go up on my day off and clean the mess up on the building. This happened several decades ago.
